Your growing conditions (temperature, humidity, size of plant, type of pot, type of soil...) will all affect how often you need to water. With fabric pots you might need to give each plant 2L of water every day but the same plant in a plastic pot might need half as much water. An easy test is to stick your finger in the soil. If it is damp do not water. If you stick your finger in up to the second knuckle. If the soil is dry you may need to water. You can also learn the weight of your pot. When it is dry it will be noticeably lighter in weight. I only use auto watering when I am on vacation. With skill, hand watering can be almost perfect so anything "automatic" is not as good. It will either over or under water. That is OK for short periods if on vacation. It will keep the plant alive. But, proper watering by observing what the plant needs is much better.

I've never set up an auto-watering system and wouldn't know the first thing about it, tbh. I like picking up my pots to see if they're lightweight and needing something before I water/feed. When they are in seedling stage, that doesn't work as you don't want to drown your plant so I just check to see if the soil is dry/moist/wet before making that decision. When they get to veg state and beyond, when they need some water, I make sure I get 10-20% runoff so that excess salts and nutes are being cleaned from the soil - don't know if an auto-drip system could do that. Good luck...
