GrowCNanswered grow question 2 years ago Your growing conditions (temperature, humidity, size of plant, type of pot, type of soil...) will all affect how often you need to water. With fabric pots you might need to give each plant 2L of water every day but the same plant in a plastic pot might need half as much water.
An easy test is to stick your finger in the soil. If it is damp do not water. If you stick your finger in up to the second knuckle. If the soil is dry you may need to water. You can also learn the weight of your pot. When it is dry it will be noticeably lighter in weight.
I only use auto watering when I am on vacation. With skill, hand watering can be almost perfect so anything "automatic" is not as good. It will either over or under water. That is OK for short periods if on vacation. It will keep the plant alive. But, proper watering by observing what the plant needs is much better.
