an even number of pots will fill a square or rectangular space better unless you have 1 unusually large autoflower.. .can always prune back if it gets too dense and dial back next time. I bet you can fit 6 in that space easily enough and possibly 8.. 3x2 or 4x2. 40cm x 40cm canopies/footprints would be 8. Size varies per auto more so than photoperiods on average.
they are smallish plants. It's less than 50cm x 50cm most times. Figure 1 gallon per month growing. 3-4 gallons is typically enough for autoflowers. There are other factors that would make you lean toward smaller or larger pots.. Probably safer to err on larger size, unless you are doing multiple fertigations per day method.
