I would advise to never top an auto and I am not a fan of defoliation for unproven reasons or "just because". More leaves = more energy being made = more growth. Only if you have impossibly high humidity that is impossible to control, would I ever consider defoliation. Let them grow wild and free, just like nature intended!

if you got many of the seeds top one and see how it goes. its hit or miss, most like LST more.

If they’re a long vegging auto then ish but still really a no go but some are just way to quick for it if your doing a couple top 1 see how it goes? For that strain

I have grown both autos topped and no topping and I always had better yields without topping them. Just a good lst is enough to promote better yields. Usually they are really fast and have not enough time to develop it’s maximum capacity.

That really depends. Sometimes you get amazing growth, and end up with a much higher yield. A few important things if you're planning on topping. So, starting her off is key. She needs to move quickly out of the seedling stage. Removing the 1 fingered fan leafs and nodes above them I do, as these are nodes that will be outshadowed my the nodes above. As they've got 3 leafs. No. Defoliations. As you need as much energy as possible to promote as much growth. (This is key) any defoliation if needed. You should be taken the nodes above them that them leafs would have supported (this is lollipoppoing, also needs to be done early) but really you should just be taken the 1st fingered leafs I'm talking about. When she flips, you can then remove lower growths as there'll be many that will just grow stand alone buds. This is energy management something you'd do in a conventional auto grow (not topping, you can do more work) but LST and showing every leaf light will be key to expansion in growth. You will need to top near day 14, 4 sets of nodes is enough. If you've a fast grow you might get 5. It all depends on how quick you can grow, so been an auto. No transplanting. You can but aim of topping an auto. IS A HUGE STRESS FACTOR ALONE, doesn't need more. Topping might cause it to flip also. But, after topping if you can get 2 weeks off veg before you see stigmata and have lots of long nodes. You're golden. Have a look at my topped VS Untopped these were done with F1s. (So, they are more like seeds that will be very similar to each other). As most seeds autos you'll never get the same strain from 10 dif seeds but the same strain. Even if you top all you'll end up with dif results. I'm a fan for topping. But, as I said you need a good start. Low nutrients at the start. (Enzymes, root stims) something to help nute uptake will help promote faster growth Also, by not stressing it out with to much light. You'll know when you've given to much light. As when they go into darkness, they droop a lot. But vegging autos can take a large amount of DLI..Depending on your light. 4-600ppfd is all you want to be hitting. 6 is even high. If you've any Q feel free to mes me. Good luck.
