Swamp cooler or ac unit for drying cannabis in hot: arid climate

Swamp cooler with humidity that I can’t control without more ventilation and maybe a humidifier. If I choose a portable ac unit that dehumidifies the air while it cools then I will need a humidifier as well. I’m leaning towards the ac unit since I have a humidifier as wrll

I find a lot of the people on here are a little bit "extra" with most processes in the growing of cannabis, the dry/cure process included. Many on here preach a 60/60 method but honestly as long as your conditions aren't extreme they're likely fine. I personally wouldn't stress unless your talking about temps over 80 or humidity under like 35%. I dry in normal "room temp" conditions around 70 degrees and humidity around 50% usually. If your humidity runs low, you can always leave more leaves on the plants when you hang them to help them dry slower.

the swamp cooler will have limited cooling effect, but will probably help with the RH a bit. You may need both.. or AC + humidifier if you want a 9-10 day dry. a swamp cooler is basically a humidifier.. it's blowing air over a wick that absorbs water.. as that water evaporates, it cools. Evaporation of water has a slight cooling effect - stronger in lower RH and less so in high RH. This is the same thing as a humidifier, but the humidifier will be better at controlling a targetted RH. So, if cost is no concern, AC + humidifier will definitely be the best way to go. Scrubby isn't wrong, but if you store weed for a 1 year or more, it will make a difference toward the tail end of that time period. It will hold up better if you are a bit anal about the drying process. Over hthe winter i had 68-70F and 60%. It took 9 days for buds trimed and pruned off branches to dry on mesh racks. LEaving the leaves attached for a dry trim and buds attached to stems can help slow down the process if it's going to be warmer or dryer. cooler is probably better, but not turning the furnace under 68F in winter, lol. 9 days is plenty long enough. in the past even 5-7 was fine, but i did notice it jsut doesn't hold up as well long-term. not an issue for many growers if the weed never makes it longer than 3-6 months

swamp cooler is not ideal. blowing air over cold ice to cool it raising RH a lot, and then running a dehumidifier side by side creates heat dumbing the effect in the first place. AC is much better option, it will dehumidify the air a bit but not to the point you will need to re-humidify it. I dry my weed in my tent once harvest is done, I set the extractor to only turn on if RH goes above 60%. the air in my apartment is chilled via AC and it only goes down to 22/21c, If you want to go lower it will cost more in hydro and TBH its not really needed. the weed will still smoke. sure 16/18c is ideal but we are hobbyist not industry farmers with all the equipment. One other option is looking into a wine fridge. it can keep things at 16c and some monitor the RH as well and vent when needed.
