white little spikes on bottom of stem ? what do I need to know ?

These are embryonic "root nodules" that will sprout new roots if the stem were to become buried or covered in compost like in nature. They are normal, to be expected and not a sign of anything that has gone wrong.

P.S. they still roots and will grow downwards into the soil. You could give them some soil-contact to support it and ensure/fasten the process.

Yep, its roots like 001100010010011110 said. If there no rootspace in the bottom, they grow roots way upper to cover more area. This roots work so well, because -they can also stabilize your plant, -absorb nutrient built ups from the surface, -will assist the 02 input of your plant -and also helps them to outgrow other unwanted new plants around, if your outdoor. Overall: They banging. Happy Growing!

Looks like some roots... usually they don't get that far when exposed to air/light.
