Have any of you successfully used umbrellas to shelter plants from hard rain? I can get a good deal on umbrellas () and could theoretically attach them to the garden poles attached to grade stakes. I'll have to check the size of the umbrellas but figured I'd ask.

No, and I wouldn't recommend it because umbrellas are not designed to withstand high wind speeds and could end up damaging your plants if they get blown away. My best experience has been with a clear tarp stretched over wooden posts and a frame. It requires some DIY skills, but it's more durable if you use a good-quality tarp and it's also cost-effective.๐Ÿ˜Š

Shade cloth might work. Its permeable, so some rain will get through, but it will also allow some sunlight through. I bought from this place https://www.theshadeclothplace.com/aluminetshadecloth.html to help control light intensity and heat in my greenhouse.

Yes, I have, many times. Definitely attach them to stakes though. Ambient humidity can still be a problem, but to keep your flowers dry, large umbrellas work just fine.

as a quick fix to prevent rain from over saturating your plants then yes an umbrella would work Provided it is attached securely and cannot cause excess run off that might cause other issues

You can always set up polytunnel plastic over your plants like a tent type of thing. Allowing them to still catch some rays.

Hello master, This will not work because of the wind. I would build a small greenhouse (at least the roof). Polycarbonate with a wooden frame will do the trick. polycarbonate with a stainless steel construction will do the trick for a few years depends on the budget. Happy Growing Buddy! ๐Ÿ’š

Build a homemade "hoop house". PVC frame and plastic painters drop cloth.

Hey mate, Is a good point to think about a shelter, but think about a long term opportunity, like a whole blanket. Umbrellas could work, but dont secure the roots from getting damped and will get destroyed very fast is they fixated in strong wind. One Strong wind and all are trash, possibly even damaging your plant while going broke. Hope that helps you, just theory tho.๐Ÿ‘
