RDWC DESIGN QUERY? Why do we connect buckets?

I am redesigning my RDWC 4 bucket system? What is gained by connecting the buckets together, while also running a shared line back into the reservoir? These 2" PVC connections seem like they could be eliminated by adding an independent return line from each, instead. Thoughts?

fewer return lines? fewer parts to maintain/clean? Might be more improtant with more pots than with 2 to 4 pots. do whatever is more convenient for your exact context. i'm sure there are pros and cons to each.

I'm pretty certain it's to keep the water level in each bucket the same and cause less issues with blockages.
