That's what happens with FF trio nutes. Think it's too high in K and lacking enough Ca. Depending on how it progresses it's easy to distinguish between the two by referencing a simple leaf symptom chart.
Other people make it work. It's not impossible. If you want to hit the easy button, go soilless and use "hydro" nutes. With total control over the nutrients given, you can use proven, existing formulas that give great results and consistently translate to different gardens - i.e. repeatable and predictable results without a learning curve.
The buds getting large or not is probably more about genetics, even if not grown optimally. I had some hog legs with FF trio. I dumped that nute-line my second grow and never looked back. It was not the nutrients. It was coincidence i ran into a heavy yielding plant for first grow.
