Net? Defoliation? Timing?

Damaku
Damakustarted grow question a month ago
When should I start using a net during the flowering phase—before or after the stretch? Also, how do I manage netting with defoliation, especially with limited access to rear plants? Finally, should I defoliate now or wait until after the stretch in about 3 weeks? Tips welcome!

Before and After the stretch 👍 Not more 15 or 20% of foliage .

Hi firstly ther is no set rule or timiming on adding a net I always start with 5cm square net and set this about 10 inches from the pot and keep tucking branches under until flower them I use a 10cm square net about 9 inches above my first net and repeat progress during the stretch by tucking plant under and I defoliate as and where necessary rembering to leave fan leaves that are poking out of the plant as they are important resources for the plant try not to get carried away with pruning if it covers a bud cut it if it’s not in the way leave it check my grow out frozen black cherrys I even added an extra net in week 9 because of the stretch aslong aas your carful you can continue to tuck the plants into better position throughout the plants life I hope this helps happy growing

You want to have it set up well before flower and use it as a tool to train your plant in veg. Its not a bad idea to add a second layer of next maybe a foot or two up to let the plants stretch into. Many growers do this especially with SOG, and in facilities because it works with the least amount of effort. It is hard to get in there one the buds are developing without messing up trichomes. If you dont put up a second layer you could be like me yesterday. i had to physically tie each cola (about 100 of them) to my light using plant tie because I thought my stems were thick enough to hold the weight of the buds, but In in week 6 and they are all flopping over already. It is kind of hard to anticipate where your plant is going to stretch to, and one weird thing for me personally my indica's always seems to stretch more than my sativa which is not normal.

Are you useing the Net to SCROG or just for support? SCROG involves bending the plant into the net to help create an even canopy. If you using the net just to add support to the plant let it grow into it and don't alter the growth. Much like a tomato cage. growdiaries.com/journal/how-to-scrog-cannabis-plants-a-comprehensive-guide - grain of salt with these articles, they often filled with a bunch of nonsense. As for defoliation, its not really needed unless the leaves are blocking airflow or light. Leaves = growth. removing them is a way to stunt a plant. They make energy with them that feeds the plant. Removing the stuff below the main canopy via lollipopping is a popular trend. Helps prevent popcorn pubs and keep the air flow going. If you can't reach the plants in the back. open the tent up fully sometime and see if it helps. or don't grow to many plants in the space. compact plants can't breath. can increase the risk of WPM or bud rot should it arise and the conditions are met, eg high RH and lack of air exchnage.

It really depends on the purpose of the net in your grow. If attempting a SCROG, you'll introduce it early so you can use it as a plant training tool. If you are just using it as a trellis support and just allowing the plant to grow through it, it can be added later on, though it's still recommended to get it up before things get too bushy. Managing the back half of your tent can be tricky. I'm lucky my tent(Vivosun 4×4) opens up almost all the way around for easy access to all sides. All you can do is the best with what you have. Defoliation is a contentious topic amongst the grow community, you're gonna get all kinds of answers on that. Some live by hard rules and perform it at set grow weeks, some do it more by "feels" and judge when their canopies are getting a bit overcrowded to do it, and others will hold onto and cherish every last leaf lol. The "correct" answer really comes down to your environment, the particulars of the strain you're growing, and possibly other training methods you're already doing. I'm a "feels" guy, I don't always defol but do when things get congested. You're more likely going to need to defol if you crowd your tent with several topped plants. Plants growing in their more natural (untopped) state don't really need defols as much unless you're doing SOG(sea of green). Good Luck!

Hello mate, normally I set the net before the stretching. After placing the branches under the net, i decide which part of plants to cut. I also cut the branches that will never reach the net before the forming of the flower. Good luck and happy journey!!

You should place the net right before you flip to flower or when your auto flowers are about 2/3 weeks old just before flower. I recommend defoliating when the plants are in flower for 2-3 weeks so you know wich branches you want to keep. Best of Luck 🌱💚
