I also use a glass of water with some rooting hormone 0.1% IBA, I gently exfoliate the stalk a bit and place them in a white bag to diffuse the light. After a week or so into dirt and they make roots. I get about a 80% root rate, Its not the best method but it works. Cloning trays are nice but expensive. depends how often you plan on doing it. make the choice on whats right for your needs.
Taking cuts from lower in the plant tend to root better from what I have read, You can also just top plants and not clone the tips you remove. useing HST and LST to train them into their ideal shape for the enviroment is key.
