Using Dry ammendments for an Autoflower, can I just mix the Veg and Bloom nutes together and let the soil “Cook for a couple weeks or so to make a super soil kinda thing that will only need watering .or should I stack flower nutes on the bottom2/3 , and veg nutes in the top 1/3?

I did the stacked method of two custom soil mixes for auto flower with my Blackberry auto and my auto overdose. in 5-gallon fabric pots. see diary.I mixed it up around week 1 of flower of my previous run and let it sit in two separate clean trashcans to let the microbes develop and let it "cook". i dont think that's the best idea to do two mixes in general. just more work.i would just fill the pot with a veg-oriented mix so the plant can get big, then just top dress like they said as needed with bloom. I put my boom mix on the bottom but thinking about it now.not sure if it would be better to have that mix up top or bottom if doing that, because if top dressing with bloom nutrients is like the same thing as just adding the flower to the top which i think is better than having it on the bottom because most the feeder roots are up top I wouldn't layer anything like lasagna unless you are trying to compost or have a living topsoil and worms/cover crops and stuff. Would not layer say, peat, coco, compost worm casting..mix it all. Organoman is right about that. an in general choose one medium and stick to it. i mixed some coco into my mostly peat mix to make it more diverse, but honestly has me wondering more than think it is helping. Peat moss is more sustainable/cleaner too. For what its worth. I worked at a compost facility for a living and made soil mixes every day. and also did vermicomposting there. We would never recommend laying substrate

I would also recommend using additionally nutrients as topdressing or an organic liquid feed for flowering. Water only works fine, but if you really want to achieve great success you got to individually target every plants needs which are different with every plant. You do this by adding nutes throughout the grow, not overpumping your super soil with em which could be harmful. Balance is the keyword for growing organics. You can plant seeds directly into a balanced super soil with no worries, it shouldnt burn them, if it does, you have overfed that substrate. If you want to use my receipe PM me. Good luck and happy growing!

Check out my grows, im mixing my own "water only" soil since 4 years and its working pretty good for me. You can layer substrates if you want, it will work if they arent too far from each other in their water retention properties. Organoman keeps saying you cant do this, but he actually doesnt have a good reason of proof you shouldnt. Im saying you can! You could also just mix the veg and bloom nutes together, doesnt really matter in my opinion. Always let your super soil cook and cool down after mixing and moistening it!

You can mix grow and bloom dry amends together to get a new ratio but they should not exceed the recommended dosing for premixing in mediums. The one product I use is 2-4tbsp per Gal of medium. and top dressing is 1-2 TBSP per gal of medium, so I can use a 50.50 mix of grow and bloom or 75.25 ratio, all the same as long as its not exceeding the overall rate of X tbsp per gal of medium. Sometimes I find the N is to strong in the mix so mixing them with some Bloom is good. I mix it overall into the medium at the start and when topdressing I save some room for more soil to be added in so the topdressing is covered and can breakdown properly. Cooking soil is fine too. amending and let it sit. I don't do this but it is an option to help it breakdown and be more avilable.

Do not layer anything........soils or nutrients. Follow manufacturers recommendations................they are designed to only work one way. Adding everything at once in the beginning will be too much for seedlings and cause burning, then if they do survive, they will run out of nutrients by flowering time, meaning very poor flower development and sub standard results. It is not hard to throw a handful of amendments on top of the potter every couple of weeks.

No need for veg nutrients for autoflowers. Just use worm castings and flower nutes for making your medium. Example gaia green castings are 2-0-0 and flower nutes are 2-8-4. That is more than enough nitrogen for an autoflower. The original mix will last around 35 days. So it's best to do a top dressing on day 28 with the flower nutes and castings. Reason for top dressing a week before the nutes run out is it takes about a week for dry amendments to be plant available. Have a very very good grow.

i dont know any dry amendments which lasts 3 month, you still need top up. do as manufacturer says, you can reduce dose a bit, to be on safe ( not overfeeding ) side , but it would be stupid to go agains created rules. ecothrive , gaja green, both needs top up at certain times. they are slow release both too.
