Timing on when to initiate the flip can be tricky with a SCROG if you don't know how much stretch you can anticipate once flowering hits. Take all factors into consideration. How much headspace do you have? How far away do you need to keep your light? The difference is how big of a plant you can manage in your space. It's probably best to start your flip early than late until you become more familiar with the strain you're growing. The strength of your light matters too. Stronger lights push deeper into your canopy, meaning budsites further down get better quality of light. For instance I run a 490w light that I can get to about 12 inches away before it starts bleaching plants, etc. but once the light is more than about 18 inches away the buds become much less dense and developed. Knowing this, I plan my canopies where I'm fitting the bulk of my growth in that 12-18 inch window from my light.
Unless your plants get too big and you have to dial back to keep from burning, it's probably best to keep your light cranked up. Going to a 12/12 cycle means you have to cram even more light into a shorter window to keep your DLI in range. If you know your aprox PAR value you can use a DLI calculator to get a good idea if you're providing enough light.
