What could cause a Gelato to grow only popcorn buds?

This is, luckily, not my plant but the sister of my Gelato Auto which for a long time did not want to grow. The pictured one did, but ver strangely: Thin, weak, extremely long branches carrying a multitude of popcorn buds. Grower is experienced. Any ideas about the cause?

Genetic mistake or your training aftermath. Some strains/girls hate defoliation and can go cooocooo ;)
Too much of sativa landracers genes.
She should taste amazing tho .

Genetic error............not all seeds are perfect.
Heartbreaking, yes, but unfortunately, it does happen once in a while.

This looks like a genetic issue to me.
Some autos do crazy things and had 2 do almost exactly this.
Trimming will be a waste of time, I would use it for hash or rosin.

Plentiful Sites but Micro BudsMaybe it's too early but I'm halfway into week 9 and my bud sites are plentiful but seem small. Been checking as most strains of the seeds I bought are 10-12 weeks. Should I not be concerned. I mean my autos are twice the size of most it seems but smaller sites and size. Thx.

Topping during Flowering: good or bad?Does topping “fast growing” colas during flowering (for light purposes) help or hinder flower dev and/or harvest?
Or should I sacrifice tallest ones to possible bleaching?
Canopy was level before flower, but a few colas took off, creating uneven SoG (6" diff)
