Hi guys, so I made my first harvest and just finish drying, in the jars the humidity reads 57% is that to loow? I still need to burp? I don't want to use boveda packs because I read a lot of bad reviews saying that it takes out the smell and the flavour...

57% can work and I don't see a massive issue with it. I have used RH packs in the jars. Get the ones that use salt water vs glycerin. easier to tell when they are depleted. Also take note that not all hydrometers that can fit in jars are crazy accurate. that reading could be off 3-5% in either direction. its why the packs are great. Biodova uses Salt, interga is glycerin. they are the two main ones. One main thing that helps is having good room in the jar. so not filling it all the way and keeping about 1/3 empty for the buds to move around. the air in the jar is part of the equation. and Yes still burp them even if the RH is low. the packs will bring it back up. and when they are depleted get some new ones. or just leave it as is but still burp em. and smell. if it starts to smell like ammonia heavely aka "cat piss" it need more drying time.

it doesnt lose smell with boveda, its conversating your weed and therefor the smell stays in the bud. Thats why the jar doesnt smell so strong, when you open it. once you grind a bud it will smell way more with the use of boveda.

55-62% is a good range. Some people prefer the buds a bit drier and some like it a bit more moist. As long as you are at least 55% you avoid fast(er)-paced deterioration of the buds. Going much over 62% raises risks of mold. When curing you want 3/4th full, but once fully cured you should fill up the jars as fully as possible. Less air is good for long-term storage. It's only a problem when the buds are still gassing off some moisture in a sealed jar, albeity small amounts.. it adds up fast in a limited volume. The bad reviews of boveda are about uneducated perceptions. First, what you smell is 'lost' from the plant, not saved. So, less smell emanating from the buds means a slower loss of terpenes and whatever else causing the aroma. So, the common person that doesn't understand that thinks the lack of smell is a negative, erroneously, and good luck trying to convince some obstinate kook of anything smart, lol. if you smoke your stash within a few months, you probably don't need a 2-way humidity pak or anything else extravegant beyond a sealed jar to maintain your weed. longer-term storage will not maintain a proper RH simply from plant material in the jar. you will want a 2-way control pack - as others said, boveda gives you what they advertise, but integra boost is total trash that won't maintain an RH% anywhere near what is advertised. My boveda packs are +/- 1%, like clockwork, on the other hand. most problems from boveda packs are due to mis use. they can only absorb so much moisture - simply weight them and if they no longer gain weight that means they can't absorb any more moisture and if using with moist buds it will do nothing to prevent mold at that point. so, user-error is the problem 99% of the time with boveda packs. Don't think they allow you to put wet buds into a jar and forget it, lol.. still need to properly dry them, first. if you don't want to use them, get a vacuum sealer for anything long-term. Have a storage container and a personal smoke jar. this way you don't open up the storage container everyday and exacerbate the loss of moisture over time. the primary storage after a proper cure should remained closed. to prevent anaerobic growth you may want to open it up once every 2-3 weeks, though. O2 deteriorates thc, but anaerobic bacteria turns it brown and makes it taste like schwag. so it's a damned if you do or don't situation.

Your jar is overloaded, not more than 2/3 should be filled. Boveda is diamond, your reading is very questionable .... most expensive cigars keep in special cabinets and boveda is a must for small stack keeping. Same with weed, it never brought me any disappointment. Interga alternative is crap from my experience. Had once white packs, they worked way worse, started to peal off ...

57% is fine! If you want to increase RH just slightly add 1 drop of water to a little bit of toilet paper and use plastic/tin -foil between paper and bud to prevent contact with the bud and the moist paper. Keep checking RH and remove paper and keep RH meter for another day when you are satisfied with the result to make sure RH has stabilized. I always aim for 62%, and remove RH meter and keep jars sealed no burping as soon as RH drops from 63% down to 62%.

Hey, it really depends on your preference. The general consensus is to aim for 58% humidity when smoking in a joint or blunt, and 62% when using a vape. I personally use Boveda packs and haven't noticed any negative impact on the flavor. I still open the jars occasionally for some fresh air, but I don't do it as often.
