It will thicken up - according to genetics. Some stress, like wind, can help but it won't have a dramatic effect compared to geentic potential. Your stem is plenty thick for its age.
You already have a fairly tight node spacing, so i wouldn't give it any more light (causes shorter, thicker internodes). How many branches do you need originating from the same 6" length of trunk? You'll just end up with an over-crowded canopy on that pace.
also, anchor base of any LST so you don't tug on roots or bend through the soil as it resists over time.
