Thrips are persistant little critters, I've had to go Protocol Zero and kill all mothers twice after trying for years to get rid of the bastards
However, you can grow successsfully with Thrips, especially if you manage to keep them down.
Always clean you grow space with Chlorine!!!!!!!!!! Alcohol is piss weak against pests ;)
When you clean your grow room after a Thrips infestation clean with Chlorine diluted in water, clean at least 3 times and wait about a week between cleanings, they need time to die properly.
It also helps if you're able to have very low temperatures in the grow room for a few days between cleaning e.g. open windows for a week in winter
This procedure did it for me, and the second time I had to do it was the lesson I needed to stop taking clones from other people into my grow room.
To prevent Thrips (larvae hunters):
- Amblyseius cucumeris
- Amblyseius swirskii
Adult Thrips hunters:
- Chrysoperla carnea (they totally wipe out Spidermites and Aphids but I've only been able to keep Thrips down with them)
- Orius majusculus (only keeps Thrips down)
Having a layer of diatomaceous earth (kitty litter clay - only use unscented!), or perlite, or LECA on top of the soil makes it a lot harder for pests to establish a bridgehead.
Removing yellow and withering leaves quickly makes it harder for pests to establish a bridgehead, most of them need weak leaves.
If you have sloppy grower friends, keep them out of your garden, if they have pests in their garden they bring the pests with them in their clothes.
