Can you please tell me if the sides need to be covered with earth?

When I covered the soil in the beginning it wasn't like that, but after waterings the soil shrunk and now there is space between the pot fabric and the soil. Should I add more soil to avoid root problems? And also the water drains down there and quickly runs downhill 😞

Yeah, you can do that, it's also normal for this to happen. I also have to refill soil every now and then. There won't be any problems if you don't do it, but you can always add a bit more when you notice that there's room for more.
