When should I top, transplant and train my plants?

My 2 plants (different strains) are at 5th (Ozz) and 4th (Peppino) node. I plan to top at 4th/5th node, then repot next week (Peppino needs it soon, Ozz maybe later) and start LST a week after. Is this timing OK or will it be too late for training? I need to limit the height

Topping now at node 4–5 is fine, but to keep shock minimal I’d repot first, let her recover for 3–7 days, then top and immediately LST the new shoots. That way the roots get space before you stress the plant above, and you’re not stacking transplant and topping at the same time. If you top before transplant, you risk slowing recovery twice—instead: pot up, wait until you see fresh stretch, snip the top at the 4th/5th node, then gently bend your side branches. Nonetheless, at my latitude it would be probably the last 2 or 3 weeks for outdoor training - watch out for that if they are going to bloom soon I would top immediately or not at all.

Hey 👋 I had to correct myself as you have photoperiodic plants. Transplant first, then top & lowstress. TruTraTri described it pretty well how to proceed in my opinion 👊 Good luck & enjoy the grow 🍀🖖

Hi, since you have two plants, you can use different techniques to gain experience and see how the plants react. For example, one with topping and one with just LST. Since you're growing outdoors and your plants should soon start flowering depending on the region, you should start training right away, no matter which techniques you choose. To keep the plants small, you can also leave them in a smaller pot; if the roots don't have much space, the plant won't grow as big. Have fun growing!

outdoors? Minimally. Unlike indoors, the plant is inundated by light from all angles and at all heights. There's no different in intensity from top to bottom unless physically shaded by an object. Keep it spread out as well as possible. Topping is fine if it helps shape the plant, but don't whimsically do it. topping early in vege could help it form a wider base to support a larger plant, maybe? don't overcrowd the canopy. The size of canopy relative to the pot is a good way to determine when to transplant. I prefer to react to how quickly it is drinking down the water in its current pot. If it takes several days, then potting up will mean it could sit 'wet' for too long in a loarger volume medium. In small pots (1-2 gallon or less) i like to pot up when it's nearing daily irrigations (with a healthy wet-dry cycle). I know the roots are fairly substantial at that point and can quickly colonize a larger pot. that last bit requires proper irrigation habits 1) fully saturate 2) wait for appropriate dryback before repeating. if you do something esoteric, it won't be as effective an option for choosing when to pot up.

Its never late for training. But what for to top , if you plan LST ? You loose part of grow .. Your plan is still ok in my eyes, have fun !
