i would not do anything to the pot as is... but when you pot up, you can use a better-aerated mix around the plug.
you generally don't want a big variance in water capacity/absorbancy from your plug to the medium it's placed into, but if you have no perlite in the plug, i'd wager it's a net-positive in this context. Plus in this context, water will be drawn to the faster drying regions with more perlite involved as opposed to pulled twoard plug.
you want roots growing deep. they turn toward greater moisture.
