Hello Growmies, my plant is almost in week 4 and is very bushy with big leaves. I've started LST with clips but the leaves barely reach the light, can I cut something off already or should I wait a bit longer? It should fill the tent.

hey 👋 Yeah, of course, just proceed with caution. I would start by removing all the lower leaves that aren't getting any light; especially since the upper leaves are real solar panels 😎

Can you tie down the large leaves with a stake so that the tops of the upcoming branches get some light? If leaf tucking isn't enough, I would remove the leaves. The plant will grow slower at first since its photosynthesis area has been reduced, but in the long run, it will grow much faster once the side branches start to develop properly.

Sure but if you reduce 'total' amount of photsynthesis by comparison, it won't help. Try routing or bending around the large leaves. Anything destined to be a primary cola can't be all bunched up anyway, so that early growth canstretch a bit without issue. You only want ~3 colas per sq ft. Usually there are too many and need to be thinned out, More just gets you increased trimming time and smaller, more-distributed buds. Even 2 colas per sq ft does a good job, but the buds are thicker and more prone to disease, so it's a give and take... Think i am averaging 2.7/sq ft this grow. Also reduces what you have to prune off and eliminates any need to defoliate (beyond useless axilla that will take some nascent leaves with them).
