Curing Process

Curing after Drying. I dried at 60/60 for 15 days (until stems snapped- Moisture reader said stems were 13%. I placed in Jars with a Meter and they are all readying 51% Humidity and 62 degrees inside the jar. Is the 51% Low? Did I over-Dry them? Do I burp to allow moisture in?

it's a bit low. Does not mean you over-dried. The resulting RH without anything to control it will vary... some people may be luck where it reaches equilibrium at 55-62%, but if it doesn't you need some 2-way humidity packs. I'd suggest boveda 2-way RH packs. Do not buy 'integra boost' 2-way packs. They do not maintain RH as stated, but the boveda are consistent and dependable. It'll be irrelevant if you smoke the buds within a few months, but better to maintain a ~55-62% RH and 60s F. Exactly what 2-way pack you want is personal preference. The longer you store the buds, the more sophisticated you want to be about storage. While 'burping' jars, if necessary, you only want them ~75% filled. Once the RH and moisture content is steady, you want to fill them up 100% -- air and heat are your enemy but light is your biggest enemy to long-term storage. moisture isn't 'allowed in' if your ambient RH isn't higher than the stated "51%" ... so that depends on your local weather. This is why a 2-way RH pack makes life easier. moisture reader, if accurate, is probably the best way to pay attention. I think 13% is still higher than normal, so you'll have to burp for a while. At 60-something F and 60% rh, based on bud density and other variables, some resulting moisture content will result. This is where you'll see variation... larfier stuff will likely have a lower moisture content in same conditions than denser buds... the rate of evaporation is faster with increased surface area and less density. could be wrong... but it's an educated guess. Some random site says: https://www.truelabscannabis.com/moisture-content 6-9% is optimal and most should fall between 6-15% ... so you could be fine, according to this web site. This was a cursory search, and i would google for more sources to verfiy whether it is good information or not. From what this says, the important part is staying under 15% to avoid microbial growth. Since you have the ability to measure moisture content of the plant material, it's going to be the best way to dial the process in.

You can always put a fresh stem or leaf in the jar until the humidity rises to target

Yes, 51% RH means the buds are slightly overdried but it’s fixable. Don’t burp the jars (that will dry them more). Instead, slowly rehydrate Dad a Boveda/Integra 62% pack, or Add a small piece of lettuce/fan leaf for a few hours until the jar reaches 58–62%. Once they stabilize in that range, keep the jars closed and continue curing normally. The quality will recover.

https://www.amazon.com/Boveda-2-Way-Humidity-Control-Humidification/dp/B00CPPG228?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1 When they’re dry and crunchy, don’t throw them away: soak them in demineralized water, then dry the surface, and they’re good to go again! 👌 You can do this 2 or 3 times before they lose their effectiveness

But what you can do now is just keep them sealed in a jar and the humidity should rise over the course of a month back up to at least 55-58 Or get boveda packs. I always have some for emergency

You may have over dried them. I end up drying for about a week to 9 days. 15 days is too long even though everyone says to aim for 2 weeks. I've never let them dry that long. One thing you can do is check by putting a bug in the jar and seeing what the hygrometer reads after letting it sit. By checking this, you can get an idea of how dry everything is. I dry at different temps depending on the time of year but I always keep the humidity at 60 and I get about the same results no matter the temperature. 6-9 days is about what I average and they'll sit at 60-62 in the jar and I just open the jar every time it goes above 63 until it drops below 60 and that normally goes on for about a week and then it sits at the same % but will creep up over another week and will maybe need to burp every so often. But the mini hygrometers are a game changer. You can see what your buds are at while drying and after drying and keep it correct. Just check them in a jar about a week into drying. The branches don't need to snap for them to be done/ ready for a jar.
