Winter storm advice

It's time to pull them down +/- 5 days . I will most likely lose power for a week on Saturday . What's my play. I can't control humidity I have no lights. I feel like cutting them early and starting the dry is the only path to salvation. Interested in suggestions.

Partial harvest is better than lost harvest.

That’s a rough spot to be in, man — but you’ve got a few workable options. If you’re truly looking at a week with no power, no lights, and no humidity control, then chopping a few days early is safer than risking mold or losing the whole run. A slightly early harvest still smokes — moldy buds don’t. Best play in your situation: • Harvest now or within the next day • Do a slow, passive dry in the coolest, darkest place you have • Try to keep air moving naturally (crack a door, use gravity airflow, don’t seal them in) If temps are cold from the storm, that actually helps slow the dry. Just avoid trapping moisture. If RH is high, space branches out instead of hanging big clumps. Waiting until after the outage is risky — wet plants sitting with no airflow is when mold shows up fast. Short version: Early chop losing the crop. You’re making the smart call thinking ahead. Stay safe and good luck with the storm 👊🌱

anything more than 1-2 days becomes a real problem... start to risk rotting on the stem with no light as well as the plant physically shrinking because it cannot maintain its mass. Based on that picture, it's definitely better to chop it down. Looks ripe even if trichomes aren't where you want them. Bet you don't even notice the difference if it's a matter of 5 of fewer days from target ripeness. might want to wait for the loss of electricity, if it's not a gaurantee and just a probability... might get lucky.

Hey buddy — first off, take a breath. You’re not screwed, and you still have good options. Given what you said: • power likely out for ~1 week • no control over humidity • no lights • harvest window is ~±5 days This becomes a risk management decision, not a “perfect harvest” one. ⸻ 🌱 Option 1 (Most Controlled / Safest): Harvest a little early Honestly? This is the most reliable play in your situation. Why this makes sense: • You eliminate mold risk before it starts • You don’t rely on power coming back “in time” • You control the dry from day one instead of reacting to chaos What you give up: • A bit of final swell • Some late trichome maturity What you save: • The entire crop • Terpenes (better early dry than moldy buds) • Your sanity If trichomes are mostly cloudy already, harvesting 3–5 days early is not a disaster. Many people do it intentionally. ⸻ 🌱 Option 2 (Only if conditions allow): Delay harvest and leave plants standing This is riskier, but possible only if: • temps stay cool • RH doesn’t spike • you have decent airflow from natural ventilation The danger here: • no airflow = stagnant humidity • dense buds = mold risk • you’re not there to react If you can’t actively monitor, this option is gambling. ⸻ 🌱 Option 3 (Hybrid / Split Harvest — very smart if possible) If you want to hedge: • Harvest top colas now • Leave lowers standing if you think they can survive the outage This reduces: • mold risk (tops are densest) • total loss if something goes sideways Not always convenient, but very practical. ⸻ 🌬️ Drying without power — key points If you do harvest and lose power: • Keep buds spread, not stacked • Avoid sealed rooms • Darkness is fine (actually good) • Cool temps are your friend • If you can crack windows safely → do it Light during dry is not required. Air movement and avoiding moisture buildup matter far more. 🧠 Straight talk Mold ruins everything. Early harvest just slightly changes the effect. Between: • slightly early, clean flower • perfect timing, moldy flower There is no debate. ⸻ ✅ My honest recommendation If power loss is very likely and you cannot control humidity: 👉 Harvest early and start the dry. That’s not panic — that’s good judgment. ⸻ 🌱 Final reassurance Plenty of excellent cannabis has been harvested a few days early. Almost no cannabis survives mold. You’re thinking ahead — that already puts you in a good place. If you want, tell me: • average temps where you are • how dense the buds are • whether you can ventilate naturally …and we can fine-tune the plan. Growers love my friend and remember this is just my humble opinion, please follow your instinct
