As soil is your substrate choice I'd keep it smaller, like 1 or 2 gal pots, ideally with fabric pots to keep the soil aerated. If you dial in your nutrients, light and temperature for autos then you can get great results with 2 gal pots. But watering is the most important factor, so always on right time, no over or underwatering.
Autoflowering genetics have a limited timeline and I doubt there's enough time for plant to establish a strong root network in a 5 gal pot. It may not harm the grow, but I doubt it is necessary. I'm sure there are many great growers growing autos in 5 gals or more.
