How much wood can a woodchuck chuck?
You need to learn how to ride this bike. You can be given general suggestions, but what you prefer is not something others can know. How this psycho-active ingredient affects your brain is also potentially different. Scope and react... don't make it some top-down inductive dreck. Test different degrees of ripeness and figure out what you prefer.
Use multiple observations to keep yourself honest... trichomes, pistil coloration, and bud dnesity...
I've had plants that refuse to turn amber and waited too long... didn't like the taste and the buds were definitely over-ripened, so i do not trigger a harvest 100% by trichomes alone. Once they look full ripened - which takes a level of honesty many struggle with - They are on a timer from that point on. If i don't see any progression in trichomes after X days, i harvest regardless. It's not quite set in stone, but i won't let it rot on the stem waiting for a little amber, either.
