Yes, if the damage isn't too severe, it will heal. If the leaves perk back up, you know the vascular tissue is at least partially working... probably have to remove that tape in 1-3 days, again depending on severity, but it heals fast. Just be certain it's strong enough. Don't want that tape restricting growth down the road.
