Check your air stone often

Why is it that I got so many wrong answers about my pH problem in a 5 gallon DWC??? Didn’t anybody think of simple stuff like did the air stone stop working because of the massive amount of white roots?

The better the info you provide in a question, the better the answer will be... Checking your airstone should be pretty obvious. Are we supposed to also remind someone in each question to check their light timers? :P I also wouldn't be so certain that the airstone is the only reason your ph drifted. The plant selectively takes in nutrients which itself will cause pH drift. Some incremental drain/refill maintenance will prevent that from being a problem over time. could have something rotting in there, like another person said, too. There are many, many potential reasons for pH drift... some of those are inevitable and some are avoidable. Except for very simple questions, you shouldn't have extreme confidence in any answer... consider they provide you with multiple possibilities and you need to eliminate the less likely and bet on the most likely, and even then you may not get it right. These problems are not often discrete. The info given is often lacking -- and that can be the fault of the 280 character limit, too. I've had one difficult problem in 7 years, and it took me 3 grows to figure out -- there was a learning curve while scaling up.

bertana, you gotta treat that hydro solution like it is liquid gold. cover that hydroton. and a reminder to clean your stuff. the majority of the day for a Tibetan monk is not meditating...........it is cleaning..... i would have never suggested air stones because (1) airstone maintenance is a given and was presumed to be taken care of when you came here stumped and (2) no chiller and light on your hydroton shows that you dont really care about your pH anyway, so what is the point airstones are part of basic hygiene with any hydro-tek and require cleaning. roots will be headed for that oxygen source. bacteria will be headed for that oxygen source. small, small holes get clogged. simple things like dragging down when expecting a swing up, swing downs, or anchoring to an unusual point are all signs from the pH that you have some dead organic matter in there...like a leaf fell or you have something bacterial. even in a sterile solution youd be taking the stones out every grow, boiling RO water bath while running air through them on the highest amount for 5 minutes or so...then you manually check to see if they are even worth keeping. i dont know if the three bucks it wouldve cost for a bigger airstone or the 60 seconds it wouldve taken to manually check it was worth anybody's time here, frankly. then we wonder why answer quality is trash or people are snarky. big mysterious on GD ya know
