Pistils do not die from being touched by fingers....unless you crush them on purpose. Pollination, heat, strong winds, foliar feeding, highly acidic soils, excessive humidity and excessive feeding can all cause premature browning of pistils....is your humidifier pointed at this plant? Otherwise, there could be a hidden male flower or three somewhere.

If the pistils get touched by your fingers they will die, (sprayed with something other than water too.) Your dirty hand there has been brushing the receptive centers of the female sex organs with salty, dirty, burning fingers... and they shrivel up and turn red and dead. 😗

This is too early for pistil death... look for pollen sacs and nanners... -or- Did you use some sort of foliar spray? Do you have strong wind directed where the pistis are prematurely turning color? This is most likely environmental (including anything weird sprayed on it) or pollination
