I'd rather put side lighting instead with one or two 20 watt 30 cm led bars. I had around 15 percent more yield with side lights, not a must but still increases the yield a bit in my opinion. Under canopy doesn't give the same for me.

Under canopy light does help a little, but a small cheap panel won't do much for popcorn buds. Light drops off fast with distance, so it only helps if it's close (about 15-30 cm) to the lower branches and strong enough, ideally with a full spectrum or white light, not just blue/red. Blue-heavy light on bud sites can also push stretch. In flower the lower branches already get little light, so lollipopping works better: remove the weak lower growth around week 2-3 of flower and let the plant put its energy into the top. If you keep the panel, aim it up at the lower branches and watch your temps. For better results raise the main light's intensity or use LST to open the canopy so more light reaches the lower buds

Light hitting the underside of leaves is far less effective.. the photon have to penetrate far deeper to cause any photosynthesis, so a large portion is totally wasted. This has to do with the anatomy of the leaf surface (top or bottom) and not a matter of opinion. It's not that it won't help... it's just significantly less effective than light hitting the top layers of a leaf. Light from side that hits tops of leaves in undercarriage will be far more effective. LOL, echo... but it's more likely true when you read an echo.. You can google these things and verify, too. (proper original sources, not user-submitted stuff... always verify "word-of-mouth")

Plants can best utilise light that hits the upper leaf surface. Lighting from beneath is largely useless......far better to stand the lights up and have "side lighting".....at least that way you will get some benefit.
