What is your preferred substrate recipe for an outdoor grow that wont break the bank? I will be planting in 4 25 gallon bags. I'm looking to improve density, aroma and overall bud developmemt.
Any tips and advice will be greatly appreciated.
Not breaking the bank? Having some finished homemade compost on hand really helped me making soil last week. and when I filled 4 100 gallon pots 2 years ago. i thin some of my old raised bed soil from my garden was composted down and reused. I do both regular composting and worm composting. I didn't want to go to the store an buy peat moss since up as only filling up a few 5 gallons. so added just a bit more compost than normal and extra perlite to balance it out and keep it form being to heavy. Check out my soil recipe diary for some ideas. Going to depend on where you live and what's best option. I would find a reputable local compost business and get a yard and that would hep you make several batches. I can get peat moss for 3.8 cu/ft. the home improvement store has 1/cu ft bags of lava rock for or so. usually fairly large size so good to break them down a little.. but depending on where you I've their may be an abundance of stuff like that. pumice is the best option but pretty pricey for me. Get several sources of calcium if you can and extra silica.
Well complimentary lights, da kind we see underneath da plantz is useful. I would just run 12 volt head light leds :) Or inferred spotlights during dusk and dawn. It complicates thingz yet it lookz 💎majestic💎
What you're looking for is much more dependant on genetics and weather, and some bottled nutrients can make up for what the soil mix can't deliver on its own.
Looks like you could go dig some soil up in your garden, test the pH and adjust it with limestone, maybe add some coarse sand and fine gravel for aeration and if you have some good compost add some of that. Price = free
If you want to make free ''bottled'' fertilizer you can make Nettle water for veg and Pomfrey water for flower, just fill a bucket with plant matter and cover with water let it sit for 4 weeks somewhere out of smell direction :)
i forgot wont let you post dollar sign. its was 20 usd on the peat bale and about 5 usd on the lava rock. also get 4 cu.ft bags of pearlite and vermiculite. you don't have to use vermiculite but it adds silica. and may wat to avoid it if it get wet in the summer. but can help if its more arid to help give the roots a moisture buffer on dry days along with bi-char. char can be made at home too. but i just buy bags of char and turn it into biochar.
