@EmeraldReverie
, hi dude I believe it's safe to. If you use it in the water the girls will be fed by it and when the insects try to eat the plant will also eat the neem, killing them. I think pulverized is the typical use because many of us use it when the plagues already hit the plants, but I think in the water is good as preventive. I also read the neem used in the water keeps active around a month in the substrate, but if sprayed it last only by a week. Hope the info is useful but keep in mind I'm a rookie in gardening and my opinion is based on experiencie and info recollected over the Internet.

, Thanks so much for the recommendations. I'll look up that information right now. Are the smart pots better than the cloth pots that I'm using now?

, The neem oil I used on tomatoes a long time ago by diluting it with water in a spray bottle. It was covered in scale bugs. This little guy though I'll try to shorten a long history of concerns with it: First I assumed nitrogen toxicity because of cold, damp soil, leaves were deformed and twisted due to incorrect usage of pH water, then brown spots appeared earlier in the week assuming it's related to cal-mag deficiency. Now I am thinking it's also under watered because I was being too careful over watering it. I did the best I could correcting each mistake that appeared. It's been very tolerant with me. I should be thanking my lucky stars but I'm not out of the woods yet and I'm pretty certain the damage is already extensive that it's not going to make a 100% recovery. I'll be starting another grow project soon to make up for it. *sighs* Never heard of smart pots. And when you say coco powder do you mean the actual coco powder you use for cooking or is it something completely different?

Question about the neem oil: I know you can use it by diluting it in water to spray topically for killing pests like scale bugs, but did you use it in water to feed it? If so, how safe is it?

I was watering it one to two 1/3 cups of water every two to three days depending how moist the soil still felt. Some times it went longer because the soil still wasn't dry enough as it's health kept declining. Yesterday I found brown spots on the fan leaves and newer leaves so I think it's escalated to cal deficiency. It'll be dead by the end of this week. Can't really do anything about it to correct it at this point. It's just getting worse each day. I finely crushed some clean eggshells to put in the soil but I doubt it'll do anything at this late stage.
