@DabCrab I think it was a combination of factors. The first being that about 10 days ago, my area was going through random power outages for 2-3 days. There were some extended periods of darkness which caused temp to go down and humidity to go up. I was also skimping on airflow. All I had for airflow before I noticed the rot was a small clip fan up near the top of my tent and my fan for my carbon filter on low. The 3rd factor was the main cola and that side branch nug being CHUNKY. It was so fat and just kept stacking more bud. Apparently that coupled with the other factors make for perfect conditions for mold. I turned my carbon filter fan up to medium-high and added a 18" oscillating fan on medium. That seems to be holding humidity at 43-53% and temperature at 68F-78F. Next time around I am going to leave my lights on 24/7 because that will keep the conditions more favorable and stable.
@SsS_SsS good eye! i checked it out and sure enough, the main cola had mold all inside the lower half of the bud. after i finished inspecting the plant i found more mold on a larger side cola. i cut out all of the infected areas and added an oscillating fan to my tent to try and increase the air circulation. My heart sank cutting off that fat main cola but it was for the best. I definitely will have to invest in some temperature/humidity control stuff for my next grow; that seems to be my biggest enemy in the space I have.
