<span class="link_user">@Marbanya</span>, I like keeping my soil alive, so I would do it even with coconut. As for pests, you could use at least a layer of rice hull. To keep a little moisture on top, and making a safe zone for the roots. It&#039;s sayd (broscience maybe), that you get around 30% more roots by doing that.

Great grow! Cover top soil with cutten grass, wood chips, any thing organic to increasy root, maximize the potencial of your soil !! Anyhting that make the top moist, and slow release anything or make a home for the microorganisms....

Soil seems to be dense, and very compact, with low water flow. Maybe the plant is stagnated due to small root development. Try to make soils that are very &quot;airy&quot;
