An air conditioner is a type of dehumidification. While it generates dry cold air, a dehumidifier typically generates hot dry air and both drain the water they remove from the air. I use both and I'll explain why.
You can control the RH air by simply adjusting the air temperature.
For example, when the air in your tent is cool (lights off) the RH will spike into danger zones, especially if the plants are large enough to transpire, even in the grow/stretch phase. Once the lights come on and the temp warms up the tent air, your RH will naturally drop.
Your air conditioner inside the tent will keep the tent air dry and cool.....during lights on. Many air conditioners also offer a dehumidification option which may be best if you want to keep the AC in the tent. If you add both an AC and a humidifier to the tent, it'll be a tug-of war scenario since both do the same thig essentially unless they were hooked up to a temperature controller, but then you'd need to adjust both devices when lights are on/off in order to stay within VPD ranges.
I'd suggest running the AC outside of the tent with an intake fan and add your dehumidifier (I like the frigidaire or LG) to the inside of your tent.
Alternatively, you can simply increase your intake/exhaust fan speed during lights off to keep RH from getting out of control.
Any further questions, don't hesitate to ask! Happy growing!
@steadfast_grower, thanks for the info. Not sure where u commented this but I received no notification of it. Yeah I have my ac in the tent and I have a dehumidifier it's just small and doesn't cover the Sq footage of my tent.
