July 19: first night of force flowering last night. Plants in dark garage at 9:30 pm and out again at 7:30 am for 10 h darkness. Also using 730 nm far red light at transition to dark which puts the plant into dark mode two hours faster so it’s like getting a 26 h day with 12 h of darkness. Force flowering for 2-3 weeks to make a solid transition into flowering and to get the buds ripening under the stronger summer sun. July 22: Foliar spray with Epsom salts and potassium silicate this morning. The magnesium in the Epsom salts seems to help with yellowing on the new growth. July 23: added another loose Scrog net layer. Tied to water bottles to open up the canopy to sunlight. July 25: watering yesterday included some water leftover over from steaming beets for dinner. That likely contained lots of N because beets are high in nitrate and the plants are very green this morning.

Sep 7: what a great plant. Totally love how it’s going. Flowers keep getting fatter and heavier and she’ll be done before the end of September. Sep 8: there a tree root sticking up a bit in my yard which means the plant can be tilted toward the late afternoon sun. This is helpful because the sun is getting really low to the horizon already and we’re down to 13 h of daylight. Plus now direct sun is done in my yard by about 6 pm. Indirect light is okay but you really want direct sun at all times. Videos shows use of 730 nm far red light at dusk. Just a few seconds is all it takes to set the plant into dark mode two hours faster. It’s a bloom booster because you get two bonus hours of darkness or a 26 h day. Very effective but don’t miss a night and you have to adjust the timing each night. When starting this on July 20 Civil Twilight, as listed on timeanddate.com for my location, was at 9:45 and today it was at 8:40 pm. The red light at dusk is a highly recommended trick if you have daily access to your outdoor plants. Also works indoors, of course, and on autos too. Also I think it helps ‘stabilize’ the plant by emphatically putting it into dark mode, and therefore less susceptible to stray light to cause a hermie. Have not had hermie problems in four seasons of using the red light so that is my only ‘proof’ but it is true so far, even with taking flash pics before using the red light. Sep 9: getting heavier and now more branches are weighed down and slumping against the scrog net. Nice problem to have, I know, and without the scrog net some of the branches would be breaking off now. She’s now officially too big and too top heavy to keep moving around the yard in pursuit of direct sun. Sun is much lower to horizon now and direct sun hours are dropping too. Sep 10: getting close to done and getting very top heavy. Awesome. Sep 12: raining today. Has been cool last few nights and some purple colour is just starting to show. I don’t want to overdo fertilizer near the end, but I decided she is showing K deficiency. I’m out of malted barley but I still have potassium silicate, so I used that and some cal-mag. I’m avoiding kelp and molasses or using more P at this late stage because that can make the dried bud hard to burn and that really sucks. So, potassium silicate and cal-mag it is. The potassium silicate raises the pH and it takes about the same volume of vinegar to get the pH down. A good does of acetate is likely good for the bugs in the soil too. Then a squirt of Dr Bronners soap as a surfactant and that also supplies some biodegradable carbon for the bugs in the soil. Seems to work overall and is cheap. Once you get to this point in the cannabis life cycle, growing is easy. Using the Beanstalk line of nutrients allows me to only use water from beginning to the end of my grows. No mixing nutes, no teas, no anything. I adjust the pH of my water to the 5.8-6.5 range, but I’m not even sure that is necessary. I have never tested using water right out of the tap as it’s almost 9.0, but that would simplify things even further. Experience has taught me to simplify. This goes for all aspects of growing. I used to top and train my plants under a tellis. Then I would spend hours trimming and had jars overflowing with flowers that I was never going to smoke. Now, I go for a month of veg and right into flower. No training, no topping. In addition to allowing a much faster turnover, I can gauge the growth habits of my plants much more effectively. For example, you can see this Shiskaberry plant exhibits significant and abundant lateral branching. Not only that, but those branches are strong enough to support the weight of the flowers they hold. This means that this plant would be an ideal candidate for a ScrOG or LST setup where the goal is a ‘carpet’ of flowers. After running this cultivar several times, I also have an accurate flowering timeline and can approximate stretch to allow users to fit their grow. More on this in the future. For now, enjoy the end of week 5.

D85. At the start of week seven of flower, the girls are just humming along. I gave each girl 2.5 liters of water @ pH 6.6. ------------------------------ D87. I brewed a compost tea with worm castings, kelp meal, neem meal, rock dust, biochar, and molasses and gave each girl 2.5 liters @ pH 6.3. ------------------------------ D89. Each girl got 2.5 liters of water @ pH 6.3 with Bokashi Juice. ------------------------------ D91. We're at the end of the seventh week of flower, and things are uneventful in the tent. I still can't find any thrips when I scout, so that's good. Yesterday, each girl got 1.25 liters of water @ pH 6.6 with fulvic acid and FFJ, and today, they also got 1.25 liters of water @ pH 6.6 but with humic acid. ------------------------------

The plants are developing well. You can tell we're nearing the end. They don't smell too strong. The first two plants from left to right are kiwi x papaya, followed by Super Larry OG, which has a structural problem. The rest of the plants are grown from given seeds that have shown good visual results.

New week, new fun. Runtz is simply a brilliant genetic. I wish many other strains, like the Zamnesia Blueberry Auto, would behave the same way as Runtz does as an automatic. The smell drives you crazy. Runtz has a wilder scent, but unlike its companions, it is now beginning to develop a new fruity-sweet aroma. I noticed this for the first time today. As you can see in the pictures, the strain makes a great impression and grows excellently without much worry. However, one thing to note: Runtz takes significantly more time. Almost as if it knows that good results require patience. A very good genetic—I'm almost tempted to grow it outdoors to see how it develops there. I can't say much about the taste yet, but for anyone who knows Runtz, I can only recommend this strain from Zamnesia. Green Sensation from Plagron is doing its job. It seems to be doing the plants a lot of good. This makes growing in the Grow Cup really fun. I hope I'll get the chance from 💙💙💙Zamnesia💙💙💙 to participate in more events like this.

That's a wrap. Long time in veg due to cold wet soil, but turned around for some decent buds. The White Gold plants could have gone for another week or longer, Papaya Bang Bang was getting past its peak so decided to take them all down today. Be back in a couple of weeks for weights after drying and trimming .

March 13, 2019 Update: Transplanted and moved one of the CBD Medi Kush plants into the Flower room this weekend. The other seedling will remain in the veg tent for another month, then I’ll pick the next plants to move into flower. I’d like to keep a 6 plant per month rotation going in flower. Also, switching over to organic feeding. Feeding with Living Water (2-3 ounces of fish tank water per gallon of well water) and also trying Jobe's Organics Fertilizer Spikes for Vegetables 2-7-4. I planted 5 spikes per 5 gallon grow bag. I pushed the spikes down finger depth about 2/3's of the way from the base of the stem to the side of the bag and spread the 5 spikes evenly around the pots. The plan is to just add water from here on out and see how it goes. I have 'high hopes', I recently read "True Living Organics" by The Rev and he seems to be a big fan of spikes and living water. I did change to a new 1000W HPS bulb in the flower room. The old bulb was in use for 3 months. p.s. I'm starting a couple new diaries next, check em out! 👍
