Plants that are too far from an adequate light source will respond by accelerating stem growth in order to get closer to the lamp themselves. Especially when there are many other plants. A lack of lighting can easily cause overcrowding in a growing chamber, reducing the steady progression of your crop and the distance ratio between your bulbs and your plants. To address this problem, be sure to provide enough light to your plants to prevent stem growth. At the same time, you should not position your lights too close to your plants either since this would also result in an over-stretching of the stems and in some cases, the loss of your crop. In addition to the distance between the light source and the plant, the type of light you will use also affects the size of the stretching of your crop. The orange and red lights encourage stretching and result in thinner, larger stems. And conversely, blue light stimulates a growth of thicker stems and a smaller size. When a species is ready to enter the vegetative phase and undergo its most drastic stretching period, metal halide lamps can be used to deter far too long stems. THE HEAT Heat is another essential element that can determine the stretch size of your plants during vegetation. Temperatures above 27 degrees push the stems to lengthen more and more and will propel the potential of sativas to push as high as possible. Heat lamps that are positioned too close to plants create an intolerable environment that will grow large, soft plants that will potentially wobble until they fall and lose flowers in its fall. OTHER CAUSES OF STRETCHING There are multiple variables that can lead to the stretching of plants beyond what could normally be expected of the plant. Environmental stressors resulting from transplantation (when a plant passes from one pot to another) can cause the plant to return to shock. This will eventually trigger a reaction causing a stretch. Cannabis plants that are not grown in decent conditions or do not receive enough nutrients will respond in a variety of ways and this includes stretching. Crops that are not spaced far enough apart are likely to stretch to sting the light to other plants. Due to extreme proximity, the plants will fight among themselves to reach the light, forcing them to expand as much as possible throughout the crop. HOW TO CONTROL STRETCHING DURING FLOWERING Stretching during flowering, you guessed it, takes place when you move your plants from the vegetation stage to the flowering stage. This is a completely normal reaction, as your plants are preparing to bear the weight of their heads. Stretching of a plant at the beginning of flowering varies widely; some plants can double in height while others grow only a few centimetres. There are, however, two main variables that can give you at least an idea of how your plants are stretching during flowering, and how much. Here are these two variables: Variety: Genetics has the greatest impact on the size of your plant. In general, sativa varieties stretch more than indicas and tend to develop long, slender stems. Light: Some lights, such as HPS, are more likely to encourage stretching. In addition, great distances between your canopy and your lights will cause the plants to stretch as they try to get closer to the light source. Stretching during flowering usually lasts the first two weeks of the phase. To minimize stretching, keep your lights between 10 (for CFL) and 30 centimetres (for HID) of your canopy. Finally, choose indica varieties if you have a smaller growing space. HOW TO AVOID STRETCHING In many cases, you can expect your cannabis plants to stretch during the flowering phase. Keeping that in mind helps to make a plan in case your species ends up growing much more than you could have imagined. If the information is available, get information on the standard size of your species and compare it to the size of your growing space taking into account the necessary distances between the bulbs and the plants. TRAFFIC While outdoor crop operations benefit from natural air to naturally limit stretching, indoor crops must assume the maintenance of air circulation within a confined space. Basic ventilation is enough to help the cannabis stems strengthen and become thicker rather than too high. In this way, the plants continue to grow vigorously without reaching heights and at the same time, your tolerance ceiling. MANUAL INTERVENTION For growers who want to get their hands dirty, there are physical procedures that can be done to reduce stretching. Similar to the natural effect that the wind has on cannabis plants, manually bending the leaves and stems will cause tiny cracks in the plant's tissues that will cause the plant to focus on regenerating its wounds instead of its vertical growth. THE TOPPING Topping is a form of manual intervention on cannabis to influence its performance, shape or size. In essence, topping is a process in which a new node is cut, growing from the plant to reduce its size and create a "v"-shaped notch that will eventually form two heads. Topping may be an effective measure to combat stretching, but it is important not to do so when the flowering phase begins. In most cases, an abnormal stretch of cannabis plants will not completely destroy your crop. In fact, stretching can indeed help increase your performance. For growers with a growing operation large enough to contain tall plants, stretching can increase the total yield of a species with more vertical space for head formation. This week, I made some significant advancements in the growth of the plants. I increased the nutrient strength to full strength, providing them with the necessary elements for healthy development. The plants responded positively to the increased nutrition and are thriving, exhibiting robust growth and vibrant foliage. In addition, I performed topping on the plants to initiate the main-lining process.

Day 71 - Starting week 11 and what should be this girls final week of life. She’s almost dried up and starting to show a little more amber trichs. Still planning on chopping her sometime this weekend. Day 72 - Almost ready, just some updated pictures for the day, nothing much has changed. Day 73 - Just some more pictures for today, I’ll chop her down on Saturday and looking forward to it. This girl stinks to high heaven and want to get her drying. Day 74 - All set for the chop tomorrow, she’s used up all the water in the soil and she’s about 15% amber, just about the way I like them.

Start of flushing for the blueberries, both blueberry plants have very heavy, sticky, stank buds, I'm looking forward to harvesting these beauties! Start of the last week of nutes for the super lemon haze, she has packed in the weight, buds have filled out nicely and stickier than the blueberries. She's still hungrier than the Blueberries, taking an extra 2 liters of feed each week. If the trichomes are showing cloudiness by day 5 of this week, I'll flush her early.

The Glueberry OG started to stretch here in the past couple days and picked up 5 inches in the last 5 days, so we will see how long she continues to stretch. I will continue to feed her veg nutrients and and keep the medic grow spectrum x light in V1 mode as to help promote tighter internodal spacing. Once the stretch has stopped or at least almost stopped I will transition her to flower nutrients and introduce her to the flower spectrum of the light. I have started introducing UV/IR lighting to the grow tent for one hour before lights off. I just focused mainly on keeping the feeding reservoir clean, and PH'd, as well as some low stress training for her to attempt to have a nice even canopy. I am definitely more interested in flower quality than quantity at this point. I believe this lady will stretch for at least another week if not slightly longer just based on her expected harvest time of 12-13 weeks but we will see. Well this lady is finally finishing off her life cycle. At this points shes just ripening & I'm thinking about chopping her within a few days maybe even later today. Her colas are huge. I hardly used any nutrients on this run but I'm super happy with the results. I hope you check back next week to see just how fast she dries and cures & follow along for a flavor test. Well what an eventful week, after trying to get her to bounce back, the smoothie has been put out into my outdoor grow house, if she finishes I'll take it as bonus buds, had to weigh up the pros and cons and figured giving the zkittles all that free space and concentrate on her would be best,.. first run on autos so you live and learn,.. zkittles is now on a adjusted week 9 feed, dropped the bio grow by half and just knocked the others down a little but, don't want to go through the same thing again with her,... she looks well though, what do you guys think?.. 🤔 day 56, roll on next week 👌👍🤞

plants are looking great, nice and thick and growing well. Smells are increasing and so is bud density. Giving them water and the occasional top dressing, They should be fine till harvest now. Added in some bokashi grains to the medium to help unlock even more potential for the plants and nutrient uptake. If that's how it works, more a less kitchen sink mentality and does not seem to hurt. Going to be hard to check the trichomes on this plant as it is so dark but will need to keep and eye on it in the next few weeks and it will be getting close to its estimated 13w harvest date. I made a little tea out of some of the flower the spider mites/thrips where not touching. in hopes some of the extract will stay on the plant and prevent them from eating it, I honestly can't tell if it did a thing, I like to think it did something but doubtful. Also got my hands on a bunch of predator mites. There where a bit past the BB date so hopefully they will still be active/alive. Side note uploading videos into the diaries is great and all, but takes to long to resize and process, can't hit save till its all done... no idea what its doing in the backend.

Divine Indica is a beautiful plant although she was very susceptible to everything along the way and it is unfortunate that the powdery mildew took over. If it had only been minor the wash would have cleaned her up but that was not the case for her, we also lost some of her to bud rot which was not a shock with the weather this season. As for the weight, it is an estimate due to the way our harvest took place this year and also a lack of scale. One thing spectacular about this girl is her aroma so we would like to see how she handles growing inside in the future.

Very little to work around those beauties. The smell is so delicious already. They smells like sweet berries. Buds are loaded with trichomes, very sticky and hard as rocks especially on Athena. Trichomes are mainly clear and some parts milky. Absolutely love power of LST and how it worked on this strain. If you won't look under net it's almost impossible to see which cola belongs to main stem. Week 11 Dec 25 - Dec 31 Dec 25-26 Joyful observation Dec 27 Selective defoliation and First watering for this week. Nutes adjusted, almost 8ltr between both. Runoffs PH on both at 6.2. I am finding this PH level for this strain as perfect. Girls are looking super healthy and drinking they mixture like crazy. Dec 28-30 All is going smoothly. I can see more and more weight each day. Dec 31 Secomd watering foe this week. 8 ltr beetwen both. It's the last day of this week and also end of 2023!!
