Plants that are too far from an adequate light source will respond by accelerating stem growth in order to get closer to the lamp themselves. Especially when there are many other plants. A lack of lighting can easily cause overcrowding in a growing chamber, reducing the steady progression of your crop and the distance ratio between your bulbs and your plants. To address this problem, be sure to provide enough light to your plants to prevent stem growth. At the same time, you should not position your lights too close to your plants either since this would also result in an over-stretching of the stems and in some cases, the loss of your crop. In addition to the distance between the light source and the plant, the type of light you will use also affects the size of the stretching of your crop. The orange and red lights encourage stretching and result in thinner, larger stems. And conversely, blue light stimulates a growth of thicker stems and a smaller size. When a species is ready to enter the vegetative phase and undergo its most drastic stretching period, metal halide lamps can be used to deter far too long stems. THE HEAT Heat is another essential element that can determine the stretch size of your plants during vegetation. Temperatures above 27 degrees push the stems to lengthen more and more and will propel the potential of sativas to push as high as possible. Heat lamps that are positioned too close to plants create an intolerable environment that will grow large, soft plants that will potentially wobble until they fall and lose flowers in its fall. OTHER CAUSES OF STRETCHING There are multiple variables that can lead to the stretching of plants beyond what could normally be expected of the plant. Environmental stressors resulting from transplantation (when a plant passes from one pot to another) can cause the plant to return to shock. This will eventually trigger a reaction causing a stretch. Cannabis plants that are not grown in decent conditions or do not receive enough nutrients will respond in a variety of ways and this includes stretching. Crops that are not spaced far enough apart are likely to stretch to sting the light to other plants. Due to extreme proximity, the plants will fight among themselves to reach the light, forcing them to expand as much as possible throughout the crop. HOW TO CONTROL STRETCHING DURING FLOWERING Stretching during flowering, you guessed it, takes place when you move your plants from the vegetation stage to the flowering stage. This is a completely normal reaction, as your plants are preparing to bear the weight of their heads. Stretching of a plant at the beginning of flowering varies widely; some plants can double in height while others grow only a few centimetres. There are, however, two main variables that can give you at least an idea of how your plants are stretching during flowering, and how much. Here are these two variables: Variety: Genetics has the greatest impact on the size of your plant. In general, sativa varieties stretch more than indicas and tend to develop long, slender stems. Light: Some lights, such as HPS, are more likely to encourage stretching. In addition, great distances between your canopy and your lights will cause the plants to stretch as they try to get closer to the light source. Stretching during flowering usually lasts the first two weeks of the phase. To minimize stretching, keep your lights between 10 (for CFL) and 30 centimetres (for HID) of your canopy. Finally, choose indica varieties if you have a smaller growing space. HOW TO AVOID STRETCHING In many cases, you can expect your cannabis plants to stretch during the flowering phase. Keeping that in mind helps to make a plan in case your species ends up growing much more than you could have imagined. If the information is available, get information on the standard size of your species and compare it to the size of your growing space taking into account the necessary distances between the bulbs and the plants. TRAFFIC While outdoor crop operations benefit from natural air to naturally limit stretching, indoor crops must assume the maintenance of air circulation within a confined space. Basic ventilation is enough to help the cannabis stems strengthen and become thicker rather than too high. In this way, the plants continue to grow vigorously without reaching heights and at the same time, your tolerance ceiling. MANUAL INTERVENTION For growers who want to get their hands dirty, there are physical procedures that can be done to reduce stretching. Similar to the natural effect that the wind has on cannabis plants, manually bending the leaves and stems will cause tiny cracks in the plant's tissues that will cause the plant to focus on regenerating its wounds instead of its vertical growth. THE TOPPING Topping is a form of manual intervention on cannabis to influence its performance, shape or size. In essence, topping is a process in which a new node is cut, growing from the plant to reduce its size and create a "v"-shaped notch that will eventually form two heads. Topping may be an effective measure to combat stretching, but it is important not to do so when the flowering phase begins. In most cases, an abnormal stretch of cannabis plants will not completely destroy your crop. In fact, stretching can indeed help increase your performance. For growers with a growing operation large enough to contain tall plants, stretching can increase the total yield of a species with more vertical space for head formation. In both cases, stretching can easily be planned in advance and there are multiple solutions to help you with this problem which is all too common. May the force be with you 💪

Growing Medium and Setup: - The plants are grown in a mix of living soil, coco coir, perlite, and clay pebbles. - The soil mix includes mycorrhizal fungi cultures to support healthy root development. 3. Watering and Nutrient System: - The plants are watered from the bottom using an AutoPot system, which provides a consistent supply of nutrient solution. - The pots are equipped with air domes connected to an air pump, delivering oxygen directly to the roots to enhance growth. Steps Taken: 1. Defoliation and Positioning: - Carefully removed excess fan leaves to improve light distribution and airflow within the canopy. - Repositioned the plants to ensure each one has enough space to grow and receive adequate light. 2. Watering and Nutrient Management: - Set up the AutoPot system to supply a balanced nutrient solution to the plants. - Ensured the nutrient solution is appropriate for the flowering stage, with a focus on supporting bud development. 3. Air Domes and Oxygenation: - Connected the air domes to an air pump to deliver oxygen to the root zone. - Monitored the air pump to ensure consistent oxygen flow to the roots. Next Steps: - Monitor the plants closely for signs of flowering and adjust the light cycle to 12 hours on and 12 hours off to initiate and support flowering. - Continue to observe the plants for any signs of nutrient deficiencies or excesses and adjust the feeding regimen as needed. - Ensure the AutoPot system and air domes are functioning properly to maintain optimal hydration and oxygenation. Week 9 - First Week of Flowering 🌸 The dark period has ended, and these ladies came back into the light fully energized and ready for action! It’s just the first week of flower, and they’re all praying, stretching, and absolutely thriving—filling up every inch of the tent. This grow space is officially packed from wall to wall, with each plant competing for its share of light and showing off some of the biggest, healthiest leaves I’ve seen yet! 🌱 A few strategic plucks here and there have kept airflow smooth and light penetration balanced. Those big leaves? They’re a sign of happy, healthy growth. Large leaves help the plant capture maximum light energy, essential during this stage, especially as they start focusing on developing those flowers. When plants grow huge, vibrant leaves like these, it means they’re well-nourished and content in their environment—a true testament to the well-balanced conditions we’ve got going in the tent! Flowering Parameters 🌡️ Room Environment: • Temperature: 26.7°C • Humidity: 63.3% • CO2: 960 ppm • VPD: 1.29 kPa (prime zone for flowering health!) Lighting: • Light Intensity: 835 PPFD (ideal for boosting flower growth) • Solution: pH 5.96, TDS 460 ppm, temp 21.1°C • Medium: Moisture: 100%, TDS: 520 ppm, Temp: 21.6°C Carbon Filter Installation & Smell Management 🌬️🌱 With the transition to flower, the scent profile is already starting to kick in—crazy for the first week, right? 🌸 To keep everything fresh and under wraps, I’ve set up a carbon filter system. Here’s how it’s working: I’ve connected the filter to my Aerofan, which pulls air directly from the tent. This air is cleaned by the filter and released into the main room, where it then passes through another filter before exiting my space. This dual-filter setup means no scent escapes into the wild, keeping things stealthy and the grow room a peaceful, scent-contained environment. Perfect for anyone concerned about keeping their home free from that telltale aroma! 🕶️🌬️ Enhanced Lighting with Emerson Effect 🌞 This week, I’ve introduced an extra 15 minutes of red light at the beginning and end of each light cycle. Why? Well, this red boost taps into the Emerson effect, enhancing photosynthesis efficiency, especially during the flowering stage. By stimulating a little extra wake-up and wind-down light, we’re mimicking the natural sunrise and sunset experience for these plants, which can help reduce flowering time. Not only does it encourage smoother transitions into day and night, but in theory, it’ll help these ladies finish a bit faster, while giving them a little nudge to build more substantial, quality flowers. 🌇 Nutrient Adjustments 🌱 Now that we’re in flower, I’ve swapped out the Start Booster for P-Boost and TopBooster to specifically support flowering needs. What a roller coaster of emotions. Was a litle early to harvest but since I also got some pollen thats totally fine!

EM#1: I can hardly believe that she weighed less than WW#1..she towered over her and her buds were as big..just not as dense I guess. Her main cola was a little over a foot and weighed 110g wet. I guess she just had a higher leaf-to-calyx ratio and leaves weigh a lot less... She was a desirable EM pheno..dense, stocky, sturdy branches, very resinous...just a little too leafy. Her total dry weight was 77g. Update 9/2: 11 days of curing and it's starting to really wreak when I open the jar. Very pungent..hints of ammonia in the jar and has that sweet skunky smell when incinerated. I set fire to it today and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. It's got that same earthy taste I remember from when it was first dry, but with "herbal" tones on the aftertaste. The buzz is a really intense head high for about 5 minutes, then levels out to a good body stone. I like it. A lot. EM#4: My tablet died and I was unable to get any photos of her being harvested. Her big bent main cola weighed 115g wet and was about a foot long if you straightened it out.. All the extra branching caused by the failed FIM and super-cropping really paid off. This plant smells AWESOME...very exotic/spicy. Smells great, tastes great, excellent buzz... she was just too tall and lanky and a pain to deal with.. Her total dry weight was 101g. Update: 8/28 - I'm determined not to smoke any more of her until next week and she's better cured....well...maybe just a little....no, not until next week...well, maybe tomorrow... Update 9/2: I smoked some more today and wasn't as thrilled with it as the first time..maybe because I had just smoked some EM#1 ;-) EM#2: She is dead and drying! Her main cola was a bit shorter than EM#1's, 11 inches, but was fatter and weighed 121g, wet. One of her other colas weighed 100g. She's very similar to EM#1 (kinda leafy), so I expect her to really lose a lot of water weight. I'm guessing she'll weigh around 85g dry...time will tell. Update 9/4: Total dry weight: 91g It's only been curing for 2 days, but had to sample it. Bam! This plant was my favorite tasting EM of the crop thus far. Same great taste as EM#4, but even more pungent. I smoked about 6 quick bong rips and got a nice uplifting head buzz for an hour that leveled off to a good mellow body buzz for another hour or so. EM#3: update 9/2: She might actually finish in about 10 days or so. Plenty of time to hit her again with cha ching, terpinator, and bud candy... update 9/10: HARVESTED! This plant took more than 4 man-hours to manicure and took three 18" drying baskets. So many buds. I will be amazed if she comes in any less than 150g of dried bud which would be amazing, but considering her space requirements and duration of bloom, probably not worth it...smell, taste, and effect could still sway my opinion.. update 9/14: Total dry weight: 224g!!! (Half-pounder!) 74g of that was lower-grade bud which I'll use to make confections and e-liquid. Took a couple bong rips..she got me stoned, but she needs to cure. Still a little green-tasting.

Unfortunately, I don't have pictures of the buds when they were dried and cut. But I can tell you they looked very nice The taste and high were very good. Verry potent ! Really liked this strain. Unfortunately, 1 of the 2 blue zushi had become a mutant. I made some very nice fresh frozen bubble hash out of it. The dry weight was : Blue zushi 1# 96 gram And from the mutant i made 15 gram of fresh frozen bubble hash, wich was very nice.

Hey growers! Another week is here and it was a tough week indeed. First, as you can see, one plant is missing. One of the wedding cakes become a hermie for some reason, produced seeds in buds and I had to cut it down early. Others look fine, no signs of seeds anywhere. Around 3-4 weeks till harvest. I also cut all branches and buds that were getting no light and did some lst to get all buds as much light as possible for the last part of flower. Cheers!

Welcome back to my Strawberry Cheesecake Diary, by Seedsman. We have now finished up week 5, the first week of bloom or flower, and it was a very productive week for this young lady! As you can see she doubled in size! We also did a light defoliation, mainly her fan leaves, as to let more light get through to those lower flower sites. I have to say, I'm very impressed with this autoflower! I love her structure, her growth is perfect and she's going to have a nice build for those buds from what I see. Well, thanks for stopping by. Hi guys So day 6 of the flip and the screen is nice and full I will now let the nodes and bud sites stretch up, connecting autopots up tomorrow with just water for a week, I had to wait as needed a new air pump for the resivour. Blue cheese is a bit droopy also due to them needing water but have perked back up now. I raised the lights as I noticed the purple stems so obviously to much wattage set on the light. I am changing nutes to shogun for the autopot system, hence just the water for a week. On the whole looking good but a long way to go.
