So another grow experience starts, this time in a new custom made tent with a new full spectrum 95+ CRI LED light. The strain is Red Kush. I placed the seed to germinate between two wet paper towels on Friday the 19th, it started showing the tap root in 36 hours and today I planted it in a 12L pot, watering only the centre of the pot with 250 ml of water PHed to 6.2.

DAY 1 The little lady has just sprouted after two days under the soil as a pregerminated seed. No helmet on the seed, which is a good sign and less bother. I spray the soil around the plant with water PHed to 6.2 three to four times a day. The plant is currently about 70cm below the lights since it's the first time I use these lights and they're pretty powerful LEDs. Will see how the seedling reacts and may move it up or down accordinly later on. Yellow sticky traps have been placed because my outdoors plants have gnats and there are some gnats inside too. I'm also watering with BTI (bacillus thuringiensis) so as to prevent gnats larvae from damaging the seedling roots. DAY 2 The girl stretched out a bit so I moved her closer to the light, now she's 47cm below the lights instead of 75. Let's see how she takes it make changes accordingly if necessary. DAY 3 Watered with 250 ml of water PHed to 6.2 with addition of BTI. The plant keeps stretching quite a lot, and is now 6.5 cm high, but the stalk is pretty strong and it doesn't need any support even with a fan slightly blowing at it. I placed a small fan that I turn on for an hour or so a couple of times a day so that the stalk gets stronger. So far that's not the most beautiful seedling I ever had, but I think that's because it's too young. Let's see, time will show. DAY 5 She's growing alright, although she stretched quite a bit more. But it looks like it slowed down and is now growing wide as you can already see the second set of leaves forming. I propped it up with more soil today. Will probably water it tomorrow. DAY 6 Watered with 500 ml of water PHed to 6.4 with light addition of rooting nutes. The plant is growing well. DAY 7 The second set of leaves is forming well and you can already see the third set of leaves starting to form, too. The leaves are deformed though, but it looks like it doesn't mind it. What can it be? A PH issue?

Hey everyone! The plant is growing fine, all praying and happy, but the leaves come out twisted. 27C day, 24C night temperature, 60% humidity. What can it be? A PH issue? Or simply a mutation? I do PH my water at around 6.2. The seed was not fresh, around 2 years old. Thanks!

This seedling would fail my "quality control" and would be culled immediately and without hesitation, whatever the reason for its appearance. Some seeds just aren't meant to be. You could try and nurse back to normality, but in my experience, 35+ years, seedlings like this do not ever recover. Age is not a factor, just bad genetics. If it were the last seed of a very special strain of cannabis, I would do everything in my power to get it growing, but if I had more seeds of this particular strain, chop, chop is the only practical course of action. You could spend a lot of effort trying to get this seedling to perform and end up with a lot of time and money spent on something that never grows or flowers properly. In nature it is "survival of the fittest". This seedling is not very fit at all. Harsh maybe, but bluntly true. Sorry. pH and germination did not cause this. It is plainly and simply, "a bad seed". Hope this helps,........ Organoman.

DAY 9 This plant is really weird, man. It's growing very quickly, but all the growth is twisted and mutated. The third set of leaves is already growing well, even the calyxes are forming, but the seedling is an ugly girl. Would you leave it as it is and let her do her thing or cull it and start a new seed? Also, should I give her veg nutes on the next watering or wait? Let me know. I think I'll wait for a week or so to see whether she can grow big fan leaves, which is the most important thing. DAY 11 Growing quickly, but still stretching a lot. I moved the plant down 15 cm to make sure that's not light damage that's happening to the leaves. Also, just in case I added a 12W LED light strip on the sides of the tent, I hope the plant will stretch less this way. Will give it its first veg nutes feeding tomorrow and spray it with kelp. DAY 13 I watered it with 750 ml of water PHed to 6.5 with addition of neem, insecticidal soap, veg nutes, and kelp meal. Also sprayed it with kelp. But I'm not really that happy with the growth now, the leaves don't seem to get bigger anymore and some brown spots appeared on some of them. If the seedling doesn't progress or grows out of it within the next few days, I believe I'll need to start a new seed.

DAY 15 She stopped stretching after I added the LED strip lights, but I'm still not happy with how the plant is progressing even after I gave it a good portion of nutes. That's why I decided to replant her in a 4L pot and start a new seed tomorrow, which I'll have room for considering that I replanted this one in a 4L pot. What I'm not happy with is that the leaves are not getting wider and bigger as quick as the ones of a regular plant would do, and I think this will have its influence on how the plant grows. The plant will probably yield fewer so that's why I replanted it, but I'm still having it and will update this diary regularly. Neem oil and insecticidal soap helped to reduce springtail population in soil to almost nothing so I'm sure that these twisted leaves is simply genetics. Watered with 400 ml of water PHed to 6.1 with a nice addition of rooting nutes. DAY 18 She's growing okay considering her conditions and she didn't stress after replanting. Watered it with 1L of water PHed to 6.5 with mycorrhizae with kelp and veg nutes.

DAY 22 She keeps growing well, but the main cola twisted leaved didn't go anywhere. Side colas that are growing now have more normal leaves. We'll see what's going to happen next as I'll start LSTing her in a couple of days. DAY 24 Watered her with 300 ml of plain water PHed to 6.4 yesterday and LSTed her today. My second seed of the same strain turned out healthy so this one is simply bad/weird genetics. However, I'm keeping her for the sake of science. I googled a lot, but I think that's the most twisted and quickly growing plant I've seen on the web ever. DAY 26 Watered with 1.5 L of water PHed to 6.5 with addition of mycorrhizae, veg nutes, and preflowering nutes. The plant is growing well and is about to start showing its sex soon. The stalk got bent a bit too much so I think that may be considered as HST. The ugly thing didn't mind.

DAY 28 She's doing well and already got 14 colas. I hope she's going to shoot pistils soon and and soon as she does I'll post macro photos of them. DAY 30 Watered it with 400 ml of plain water PHed to 6.6. DAY 32 She finally started shooting pistils and it's confirmed she's a girl. Watered with 1200 ml of water PHed to 6.4 with veg and light flowering nutes as well as BTI. DAY 35 Watered it with 1200 ml of plain water PHed to 6.5 with addition of BTI. Growing well.

DAY 37 She's flowering beautifully and doesn't care about anything, just keeps growing and getting better and better. I'm sure she'll yield good for a 4L plant. Started smelling some. DAY 38 Watered with 1300 ml of water PHed to 6.4 with addition of veg and flowering nutes. DAY 42 Watered with 1300 ml of plain water PHed to 6.4 yesterday. Growing well, now stretching out and forming buds. By the way, the buds already started becoming purple. Cool!

DAY 44 Watered it with 1.2 L of plain water with BTI. Flowering well, I believe that stretching is about to come to an end soon. It's incredible that the flowers are not at all mutant but the whole plant is. What do you think guys it is? Genetics or and old seed? DAY 47 Growing well and the flowers are getting bigger bit by bit. It's stopped stretching. Watered it with 1.4 L of water PHed to 6.6 with general auto, flowering, and special flowering nutes. Also, added some Flawless Finish (mag+sulfur) just in case to avoid magnesium deficiency because the leaves are getting more yellow in general all over the plant. It might be okay though because it's already almost 50 days old and I think this plant will be ready in around 3 weeks or so. What I should not have done, I believe, is give it a full dose of general auto nutes as I though she may be lacking nitrogen. All in all it was 1350 ppm with all nutes that I gave it to her tonight, but that's acceptable in full flowering because the last runoff PPM was 650 and last runoff PH was 6.1. After I did it though and measured the runoff PH and PPM, the former was 5.7 and the latter was 1600. That's really weird as I was always feeding it 6.2 to 6.5 PH water with acceptable PPMs that I measure every time. Let's see what happens anyway, but from now on I will place some dolomite lime on top of the soil, water with solution PHed to 6.6 to 6.8 with more runoff, and give her only 1/3 of dose of general auto nutes. And go light on nutes in general.

DAY 53 Watered her with 1.2 L of water PHed to 6.6 with two types of flowering nutes as well as a lowered dose of all-purpose auto nutes. The PPM was 950 in, 800 out and PH was 6.1 out so everything seems okay. However, brown spots started appearing on a lot more upper leaves and a lot of them are getting yellow. Not lower ones though. I think that's PH combined with its age since it's deep into flowering. Anyway, I can't do anything now since the figures are under control. Let's see how she copes. The flowers look great and plumping up well.

DAY 57 Although the plant is undergoing really bad calcium and phosphorous deficiencies, the buds are fattening up as if nothing happened. The leaves though, poor leaves, especially the upper ones. The photos are a bit on the yellow side, but the plant is still yellow almost all over. I believe you can't do anything with it so late in flower? I watered it today with 1200 ml of plain water PHed to 6.6. PH out was 6.2, which is good, but PPM out was 1600. I will cut out the all-purpose auto nutes that contain a lot of nitrogen and will only give her sugar based flowering nutes and the other one with microacids. If you're reading this and you know what can you do with calcium and phosphorous deficiencies late in flower, feel free to comment. I will appreciate it!

DAY 67 Watered it with 1.2 liters of water PHed to 6.6 with flowering nutes, PPM 800. It's its last watering and I'm going to chop it in 48 hours or so. It'd benefit from another week of growing, but I prefer to chop it now since the other plant is huge, needing that space, and much healthier. In any case, this one is an experimental mutant plant and it turned out to be quite a journey. The flowers, although airy, look really good and colorful and I'm glad I let it live. I'm sure I'll be able to get a jar out of it and the smoke will be good.

Oh man, that was an adventure definitely. In my case this exact plant, as it turned out to be mutant, wasn't an easy one and it had all kinds of deficiencies you can ever imagine. Not entirely its fault and definitely there's my PH mismanagement in it, but my other very-much-less-mutant plant of the same strain and breeder is doing pretty well at day 58 when this one was already all yellow and dying-looking at that time. Nonetheless, I managed to get 15 grams of really airy but really purple and cool looking buds and I think it was completely worth it as she was in just 4 liter pot and was VERY VERY twisted. 15 grams for her, an entire medium sized jar, is really good and I'm happy. The weed is good as I'm a fan of purple kush and the effect is really enjoyable. Very relaxing and numbing effect without any paranoia. The buds smell of something sweet, spicy, and maybe woodie. It was great to have it as an experiment with a happy end and I hope it'll help people who have (and they definitely do as there are many questions about mutations like this on the web) the same looking and growing plants.
