Super excited to see how these auto flowers do. I'm trying to get a harvest during winter downtime. Last time I grew autos outside during winter there was no covering, just in pots with basic old soil, and they did not do very well at all. This time I'm growing in a greenhouse using perferated pots and greenhouse formulated peat. I currently have clones of Dark Star, Blue Cheese and Glookies in there and they are far exceeding my expectations.
The Bluematic and Quick One are still a no show but I'll keep them buried and wet for a bit still. Jack shot up and I had to make sure all were supported fast. Once I see roots out the sides I'll plant them in the greenhouse.
Nearly two weeks done and the stretching continues. Leaves coming along nicely. This weekend I'm moving them into the greenhouse and into bigger pots.
After 17 days indoors I've moved them into the greenhouse. The move was so sketchy as they had stretched so much and fell over a few times. I have them in 50L Air-Pots in a peat moss mix I bought from a greenhouse supplier. The wire supports I made did not work out so well with that open edge. Next time I'll be sure to try something that closes all around.
Day 22
Since seed, all four plants are doing great. Growth has picked up a bit as the root system makes its way into the peat mix.
Day 25
The grow medium I'm using seems to retain water really well. I'm not even sure I needed to give them the light watering I did. Leaves are praying and looking really healthy. I won't start adding nutrients until I see pistols.
Day 28
Jack and Sour Diesel are tall enough to train. Bent them over with the bend starting about 4cm above ground. In the past bending it just as is had the stem running along the ground where pests and problems formed. Found some white flies lurking about so I'm making a garlic mix too keep them away.
Day 29
The days are definitely getting cooler and this will have an effect on the final yeild. This is where the greenhouse needs to shine and keep my plants happy enough for it not to have too much of an impact.
Day 30
My garlic mix is ready and I'll apply that tomorrow in the morning. Did a little more training. I'm going to leave the other two a little longer before training them and see what happens.
Day 32
Looks like the garlic worked for the white flies, I'll give it another hit tomorrow. The Royal Jack has it's first pistols showing.
Day 33
I've been monitoring the Sour Diesel Auto for a while now and I'm worried I'm seeing flowers forming. I'm just waiting for the balls to drop. If it is a male I may be able to breed some various autos myself.
Day 34
So the Sour Diesel has pistols, but I'm still not convinced till I see pistols coming from that calyx. The Diesel Auto is now also showing pistols so it's just the Kush I'm waiting for.
Day 36
Diesel Auto and Royal Kush Auto, I've decided to leave them grow out natural. I've never done this for an auto so I'm keen to see the results compared to the other two.
Sour Diesel Auto and Royal Jack Auto, have been bent over to expose the lower branches to more light. I'll keep guiding these two as much as possible.
On other news, my nutrients have arrived so I'm giving them there first dosage this weekend.
Day 38
Today I gave them their first dose of nutrients. From here on out I'll get the schedule going, and since this is my first go at nutrients I'm keen to see the difference they make.
Day 39
Did a little LST to make sure everything grows nicely, also gave a spray of garlic and hand cleaned a few aphids. They seem to really like the Royal Kush.
Day 41
The Royal Jack and Sour Diesel both lost a fan leaf while being trained. Everything is so supple I have to be careful not to bend things too far or they just get to a point where it snaps. All are filling out nice I'm just wondering about Jack.
Day 42
I've been keeping a close eye on those two flowers I found on the Sour Diesel. I wanted them to open just a fraction before snipping them off. I've put some grains of rice with to try absorb the excess moister which would destroy any pollen I hope to harvest.
So far Sour Diesel, Diesel and Royal Jack have started flowering.
Day 43
All four ladies are now in flower mode. They are still looking healthy but the fight against aphis continues. I've tried garlic a few times but they keep coming, so now I am going to make a tomato leaf mixture. I've read garlic chases everything, but tomato leaves chase only the bad bugs. Tonight I will water with plain water with a ph of about 6.5, then give them a stronger dose of nutes for its current stage of growth this Saturday.
Day 45
Did a bit more LST on Sour Diesel, Diesel and Royal Kush. They all got the full treatment today, I watered them with nutes and after a bit I sprayed neem oil to deal with the aphids.
Day 48
Everything is still looking really nice. I sprayed some Bioneem Oil a little while ago and left it from there. I've been going every night picking off the bugs, but with the neem I've left it to see if they still try. Each day I do a little training to make sure the growth is guided.
Day 50
We are on the last day of this week and I'm just amazed at the growth. My previous auto grows were just sad and nowhere near as good a looking as these. The neem seems to be working ok I guess, but I have only sprayed once. I want to get a solid schedule going with watering, nutrients and pest control. I was going to water twice but the grow medium holds water really well.
Saturday = Nutrients
Monday = Pest control
Wednesday = Water
Day 51
Really wasn't sure I'd have plants to report on this morning as last night the wind was blasting like hell. As you can see all is well this morning and they are looking good. Smallest of the four is the Royal Jack, I have an idea on why development has not been the best but I'll need a few more grows under my belt to know for sure. Sour Diesel and Royal Jack were both trained in a similar way, but there were some cutting and bend differences that may explain why the growth or lack of. Not doing too much training as the plants start to settle for the push.
Day 53
I gave them all their nutrients yesterday and gave another spray of the Bioneem today. I'm going to leave it for two days then see if I can get pollen from that flower.
Day 55
I'm still finding aphids and it's driving me mad. If you see ants, there are probably aphids. Just watch were they go and you'll find them. I've only applied twice so I'm still going to give it time. If this does not work I'm trying the tomatoe leaves. I just REALLY do not want to use anything that could turn out to be harmful.
Day 57
The stigma are shooting all over the place and the different cola are starting to come through. There is a slight smell, but very soon there will be the different fragrances coming from each. Can't wait. Over all they are still looking insanely healthy. I watered them yesterday even though the grow medium was still fairly damp, but I want to semi flush the remaining nutrients in prep for the next feed on Saturday.
Day 58
Stigma are coming out all over the place and you can see everything filling out really nice. Royal Kush is still a bit behind, but that is likely why she is the tallest of them all. With the pollen I collected from the Sour Diesel, I want to pollinate the Kush.
Day 59
I decided not to start the pollination as I was going to spray with a slightly stronger concentration of Bioneem Oil. The aphids will not let up so I'm trying to increase the strength.
Day 63
There are still aphids and I'm starting to think this Bioneem Oil is actually snake oil. I've held off on watering as the medium holds water so well. I'm going to have to rework my watering amounts.
Day 65
Things have come to a standstill as everything starts bulking up. Aside from the over watering and constant aphids, the trees are looking healthy. There are dry rings forming on some leaves, not completely sure what it is but I suspect nutrients or roots. I'm waiting for the grow medium to dry a bit and hoping the rings go as it dries.
Day 67
It looks like we are close to ready to water. I'll life the containers and try sus out how dry it all is.
Very cool grow, I love the space. Best of luck...ill be back to see how the battle with aphids goes. I just started my first outdoor grow among my veggies...i'm guessing ill be doing some battling in the near future too...awesome. All the best.
