Hiya. This is my first ever grow. 3 years ago I still subscribed to the “this is you brain on drugs” mentality. My Dr convinced me to try medical. I’ve been eating crow ever since! I’ve now taken the leap to growing my own meds. Who would have ever thought that I ( little miss “pot is bad for you...) would embrace “the thug life” at 52 years old, haha! I bought Sweet Seeds Caramel Cream Auto 25 pack from a company local to my state, which is a recreational legal state. I was torn between germinating in the plug or on a paper towel, so I decided to use the towel method. I inserted the rapid rooter plugs into the amended soil and put everything under a humidity dome and on top of my winter heat source for warmth. That way when time for the babies to go in soil, there will be no temperature difference shock. After they do their thing, they will go into a 2x2x4 grow tent with a 600w light. Not sure if the light is adjustable. I’ll be able to tell you that in a few days, after I get everything set up for the arrival of the sproutlings. Wish me luck, I don’t expect a bumper crop from my first grow of 2 plants. Heck I don’t even know what amount to expect to get from each plant. Nothing like naively jumping in feet first! Hey, but I’m a pro at growing and preserving veggies, so I can do this. Just have to learn the trade.

Both seeds have germinated and have tap roots. This is 36 hours of germination time. How long should the root be before putting in plug?

I'd personally say the seed on the right is absolutely the right length any longer you have a chance of breaking and the left seed is not out enough to bury it's self into the medium. Once in plug and covered over with medium I'd suggest having a humidity dome over the top for a day or two to make seed strong 😊 Good luck your doing great 👍🌟💚

Well it’s actually been a few weeks since I started this journey. My first two looked amazing, but after planting in the plug, things went south. They started poking up, then their whole head fell off!! I performed an autopsy on the head, and it looks like the leaves just couldn’t get free and died. So last week, I germinated 3 more seeds. One directly in the soil, two in a towel. One in the towel tapped, the other is still sitting there doin nothing. The one that tapped was planted in plug, then in cowpot and hasn’t come up yet 😞. The one I planted directly in the soil is looking good - I think. I almost lost it too though. The shell wasn’t coming off, just like the others, so I read up, and performed plant surgery. Took me 10 min because I worked VERY slow and gentle. I was able to get the helmet off, and this is day 2 of freedom for it. Does it look ok? So what am I doing wrong, why are all the shells sticking?

Well, I think my micro plants are ready to harvest. They’re all only 4” tall and look like the pic above. So “technically” I was successful on my first grow. I mean, I DID grow bud, and I didn’t kill them 😆. Maybe these one hit mini’s will be so potent that I only need one hit…. I’ll try again after I’m out of my leg cast, in the meantime, I’ll have to continue to pay dispensary prices.

Always a learning curve brother. With Autos. , out them in their final pots a.s.a.p after germination. They have notoriously sensitive roots to repotting and it will effect their progress. Best method ever after years of trying everything and method to use is small propagator a little medium to keep them dark and moist in , straight from packet to medium. Gets a great hit rate if the medium is kept moist initially. It will soak the seed shell enough to to allow it to shed properly within the soil sometimes. I have had so many mishaps and rescues using cubes or plugs for seeds. they grip the seed shell too hard and can ruin the emerging plant too. Good luck.

as mentioned innorecious weeks one mate. , those husks can be hard , and in nature they fall to ground less aged so don't have this problem. using the towels is such a hit and miss affair as you see yourself so with autos , your correct to put it straight in the medium and begin as they most prefer. Photoperiods are different to the autos but still need a proper germination to succeed The soil in the pic looks a little too moist watch out for fur forming round the stem, this will kill it off if allowed to grow more. You have to allow the seedling tobjaeden off and acclimatise to dryer conditions so it needs fresher, drier air for that. maybe holes opening the propagator/dome.
