I would bet on a couple of problems or 3
1 excess fluid which concentrates the nitrates and can make the roots rot.
2 excess nitrogen and fertiliser in general
3 excess of water on its own, how is the water drainage?
you are right, let go dry a little and add pure water, for a week or 2. Remember that in most soil this beauty would do better wiythout any supplements than with an excess.
