Who doesn't love Billy Idol😍
RQS Euphoria has been on my radar for awhile now thanks to Mrs Larimar and I'm glad I finally get to try it!
Originally I was planning to do RQS's Medical Mix of 1 x Royal Highness, 1 x Royal Medic, 1 x Dance World, 1 x Medical Mass, 1 x Painkiller XL, and add Euphoria also. But unfortunately due to Seedsman revamping their distribution network I couldn't get the Medical Mix but I was able to get Euphoria, being the only RQS CBD strain available to me, so I got 3!
From Seedsman:
"Euphoria CBD combines the genetics of Royal Medic and Shark Shock. Royal Medic is a medicinal strain that is largely comprised of Juanita La Lagrimosa and which carries the high CBD-production through to Euphoria CBD. Shark Shock is a hardy plant which has won many awards in various cannabis cup competitions since the late 1990s.
Euphoria CBD grows to between 60 - 100 cm. indoors or between 100 - 150 cm. when grown outdoors. It has the structure of an indica plant, short and stocky, as its genetics are 80% indica. Yields are between 400 - 450 gr/m2 grown indoors or a similar amount per plant outdoors. The flowering time comes in at a very respectable 8 weeks, not bad for such a beneficial medicinal strain, with outdoor harvestsbeing during October in northern latitudes. Of course indoor growers will not realise this amount per plant if they are all crammed in closely as per the Sea of Green method.
The dried buds have a sweet and fruity perfume which carries over onto the palate. The THC:CBD ratios delivered by Euphoria CBD are close to 1:1 with THC at 9% and CBD at 10%. For therapeutic purposes Euphoria CBD has applications in the treatment of anxiety (including social anxiety), pain-relief, Crohn's Disease and as an anti-inflammatory agent."
Social Anxiety👍 Yeah that's me.
I started these on a seeding day, April 22nd under the waxing gibbous moon in Leo.
3 seeds in Jiffy Pots with about 1/2 pint of Coast of Maine Sprout Island Blend in a 1020 tray with the rest of my starts under a humidity dome. The tray sits of my Vivosun heat mat with the thermostat set at 78F. I gently watered with a spray bottle filled with our pristine well water.
I'm very happy to say that I had 100% germination rate across the board👏
All my ladies started to come up on April 24th, including an extra!
In the few years that I've been growing, I've probably started around 50+ seedlings, but having 2 seedlings come out of 1 seed is new for me. I'm curious to know if anyone else has come across this. Regardless, it's pretty cool and I'm happy. My only concern is how viable the 2nd seedling will be. I feel like I need to wait until she's stronger before I try extricating her from her twin, since she's a few days behind in this very sensitive stage. But at the same time I don't want to wait too long because their root systems will only become more intertwined. We'll just have to see.
Once these babies began getting upright on April 25 I put them under 3 Litever 24v grow light strips. On April 27th they were hitting the roof of the humidity dome so I took them off the heat mat and put them in a south facing window for the morning and put them under the lights in the afternoon. The next day on 4/28 it was absolutely gorgeous out, 60F clear and sunny so I put them in the south flower bed in front of my house and they drank in the sun. The 29th was overcast and chilly so they stayed in the house under the lights. Same thing today.
No nutes this week, as the potting soil still has a little more to give, but they'll be getting some Nitrogen soon. See y'all next week👋
I have discovered that Euphoria is most likely going to be the finicky one😬
Mostly, the plants have been under the grow lights on the heat mat all week, but we did get a nice 60F day on 5/2 so they stayed out and drank up the sun for most of the day. Unfortunately a couple of the Euphorias got a little heat stressed and the leaves turned up a bit. They next day I gave them their first feeding of the Alaska Fish Fertilizer which is a 5-1-1 so it's perfect for vegetative growth. In hindsight, I probably should have waited another day for them to recover from the heat stress, but since the other 2 strains seemed fine I figured they would come out of it no problem. Couple that with me making the fertilizer 2x as strong as the recommended feeding guidelines because I wasn't paying attention, and they got a little more stressed than they should have, and that's completely on me.
However, what isn't on me is what the cat did. Or maybe it is. But if you knew this cat😼...I don't affectionately call her Satan for nothing. Apparently, the smell of the fish fertilizer was very enticing for the Coon and she decided to open the door to the room where I have my grow rack setup for the cannabis seedlings and microgreens. The thing is, I heard her open the door, and when I went up to investigate I found her paw in the Euphoria twins seedlings😡
Now, the two babies are not completely wrecked, but between the heat stress, overfeeding and my $h!the@d 😸 I don't know if they'll make it. I'm too embarrassed to post a photo of it. Hopefuly next week I'll have a better report.
Well, This week wasn't so great.
Turns out that when the cat got into the Euphoria patch she snapped some stems. They were still being supported by the surrounding soil so I didn't notice it right away, as I didn't want to investigate too thoroughly and risk causing more harm to the delicate seedlings. When they began to droop in the next few days I knew. I suppose if I hadn't stressed them so much they may have recovered.
But at the same time, It's survival of the fittest here. I'm an outdoor grower, and to be brutally honest I don't have the time to be fawning over every finicky seedling. I need strong plants, and none of the other seedlings were stressed out by the overfeeding. There's a part of me that feels like it wasn't meant to be.
I said a few nice words before they went into the compost.
So I'm down to one, and you know what? That's ok! This is why I got a 3 pack, in case something happened, and you know what? It did. I'd feel like a real dumb@$$ if I'd only ordered 1 seed. $h!t happens, your brain fog messes up the dilution ratio on the fertilizer and your nosy cat acts like a twat.
It's life.
And I still have other plants.
So, this remaining seedling didn't get any nutes this week, just a flush when she aired out a bit more and then re-potted in Coast of Maine Bar Harbor blend potting soil. I color coordinated pots and strains so Euphoria got the bright yellow.
We had a couple cold, drizzly days when they stayed inside under the lights and on the heatmat which Ive set down to 70F.
Will probably get pinched next week.
Consistently nice weather this past week meant I was able to put these seedlings out in the hoop house on 5/17.
This Euphoria immediately started soaking up the sun and you can clearly see the difference from 5/17 to 5/19😀
But despite the improvement, I'm still going to have to wait a couple weeks before I attempt cloning.
Hopefully in that time my little twat cat won't get any ideas and try to finish what she started by obliterating all Euphoria seedlings😼
She also got a feeding as she's recovered from the previous stress.
Daylight as of today is at 14hrs 59mins. Gaining, gaining, gaining....
Last night we had a thunderstorm with a fair amount of wind, which was blowing for a bit before I got out to the hoop house to put them sides down. In that time, the wind managed to knock over this Euphoria and I didn't see it in the dark😨
Good thing I was already planning on transplanting. Thankfully she's just bent (not snapped) so I gave her a little support with a stick.
I had more photos to post for this week from 5/23 but they've disappeared from my phone, which seems to happen a lot.😑
So yeah, it seems to always be something with this strain. I'm left to wonder if the universe is telling me it's not meant to be, or if this is an exercise in patience and determination for something grand. I hope it's the latter.
Euphoria is looking much better this week.
I was able to take her support branch away and her color has improved.
I'm not sure if I'm still going to clone her or not.
I ended up ordering some auto Sativa hybrids, because I wanted something cerebral and uplifting. What I really wanted was more of the Widow Remedy that I grew 2 years ago, but now you can only get it in regular packs of 10😾
It's a matter of prioritizing strains with the limited amount of time I have to spend tending, as I just have too much going on, like every summer.
I'll make a decision in the next week.
Better color on the Euphoria this week. I pleased with how she's doing and expect her to catch up to the Blueberry once she's in the ground.
Speaking of... I know I didn't get plants in the ground like I said I was going to. It's just been one of those weeks (which is why I'm updating a day late) and I'm basically running on empty right now. We had a big heat wave where it went from high 60's to low 90's and it was just too much😵 Push mowing in that under direct sun was not fun. I also had a family member come to stay with me for a couple days so that meant no garden time. I have so much weeding to do it's distressing🙀 The ATV also decided to spring a fuel leak, which is a PITA because I have beautiful, freshly cured bio-dynamic compost waiting to be moved out back and nothing to move it with. The thought of having to drag it out back with the wheelbarrow is torture, and as much as I nag my husband, he's just as tired as I am with too much on his plate as well.
So given the circumstances, I won't be cloning this one. I know it's a bit disappointing, I was actually looking forward to trying my hand at it but I've just got wayyy too much on my plate right now and not enough energy to do it all. The fatigue is winning right now. I want to push back, but I know I'll only pay for it later.
I may live in "Vacationland" but I've only taken 1 in my life, and that was my honeymoon!😅 Going back to Iceland is pretty darn tempting right now! If only...
15 hrs and 31 mins of daylight, and I finally got plants in the ground!
I selected a bed in one of the older parts of the garden. This particular bed had a few good things going for it. First of all, it's one of the beds that had garlic in it last year. There were a few cloves I planted that apparently stayed dormant last year, but then decided to sprout this year, which is great because garlic deters many harmful insects. There's also catnip, chamomile and motherwort that self sowed in the bed. Catnip deters many harmful insects as well, chamomile can provide calcium and magnesium while attracting beneficial insects. And motherwort... Well I'm not sure what beneficial impacts it might have, but I love motherwort tea. There were also a few clover plants that I left in so they can sequester nitrogen in the soil.
The ATV is still down, so I had to drag 3 loads of compost out back in the wheelbarrow. I think the compost will be really good though because I used Pfeiffer Biodynamic compost starter in it and have been turning it regularly with the pallet forks on the tractor (it's so much better at aerating than using the bucket, and easier too). After I spread the 3 loads, I grabbed a wheelbarrow full of bark mulch and added 3 quarts of dolomite lime for Cal-Mag boost and also to buffer the acidity. I then spread that over the top of the bed, dug out my planting holes, popped the plants in and put 2 quarts of Coast of Maine Bar Harbor blend around the roots to provide a buffer as they reach out.
So even though I put down bark mulch, I also put down some local Lucerne Farms Ground Cover mulch. It was so dry last year I'm doing as much mulching as I can to help with moisture retention in the garden. Then I added some support hoops, and from 2 of those I hung yellow sticky traps to catch unwanted early diners. I covered them with an Agribon Ag-15 row cover to keep them a few degrees warmer at night, and also to reduce the amount of direct sun they're getting during this stressful time. I used one 2 years ago with my transplants and I feel it helped them immensely. Finally I watered them in.
I haven't done any training with her, as I was saving her for cloning but now I'm not doing that since I started autos instead. But I'm not just going to top her right after transplanting because that's a lot of stress so I'll let her settle in this week and then next week maybe a little haircut... Or maybe I'll just leave her au naturale... No, because if she has a big, fat main cola it's more likely to mold.... Hrumph😕
Good week for this lovely lady.
Her color has improved immensely and she's almost caught up in size to the Blueberry.
Since they're settled in I took away the support hoops and will pack up the row cover.
Yet again I think it did a fabulous job reducing stress from transplanting.
I also added in some Calendula plants yesterday afternoon as they make good companions. It's gonna be a straight up partay in this garden bed😜
Update 6/26- I totally forgot to add that on Monday the garden got a spraying of horn manure. Horn manure is a biodynamic preparation of cow manure that's been fermented in a buried horn. This results in a material that's teeming with beneficial flora and fauna for the soil. Ideally it would be sprayed prior to planting in the spring as it encourages healthy root growth. I purchased the pre-potenized so that I only had to spend 20 mins stirring rather than an entire hour. That would have been brutal😵 I sprayed it at night when the earth is breathing in and used a spruce bough to sprinkle it over the plants in the garden. The extra icing on the cake was that there was a rain the day before, and another the day after I sprayed so it was well watered in.
I didn't update last week because I had a bit too much going on, with it being a holiday, ALL the tourists showing up, and I had to re-do my Auto diaries that disappeared with the technical issues Growdiaires was having.
So I'm doing 2 weeks of individual updates today.
I think Euphoria is over her growing pains she was having early on (knock on wood) and she seems very happy with how things are going. She's only an inch or two shorter than Blueberry now, so she's catching up just fine.
I've been doing 2 feedings per week, and we've been getting some fairly consistent rainfall which is a godsend considering how dry it was this time last summer so I'm very grateful for that!🙏 Less water for me to lug up from the stream😩
I may switch them to a 3-2-2 fertilizer in the next couple weeks.
Euphoria is still doing great, a couple inches shorter than Blueberry, but I think that's going to be the case for awhile until they flower.
She's happy with her friends and companion plants, hasn't really been showing any signs of stress or excess and deficiencies, so it's feed feed feed for now.
I think in the next couple weeks I will switch them from the Fish 5-1-1 to a Fish/Kelp 3-2-2 that's local, which I used it last year too. After that, when they're in flower I'll transition the the Neptunes Harvest Fish 2-4-1 or Neptunes Harvest Flowering 2-6-4.
I got nothing else for you folks, only to wish you all happy growing!
Euphoria is still trucking along and doing great👍
The autos and night nurse got some training this week, but I simply ran out of time to do Euphoria and Blueberry. Therefore I will try to do it next week😜
Since we're getting closer to flowering, I decided to introduce an equal ratio of Neptunes Harvest Fish 2-4-1 with the Alaska 5-1-1.
Another solid week of vegetative growth💪
Trying to find the time to spend a quality afternoon doing maintenance and training but it'll have to wait😒
Just a couple feedings this week, not much else to report😺
Finally got the time to sit down to do some maintenance and training on this girl🙌
It was a wet and rainy Sunday on 7/25 so we pushed back our Farmers Market a day and I got to get soaked in the garden😅
Cleaned up the interior, removing discolored fan leaves that weren't getting enough light and small branches growing inward that wouldn't amount to much.
Then I did some LST with 4' Bamboo stakes and PGarden EZ Soft Plant Ties. I staked 4 main branches to open up the interior for better light penetration and air circulation👍
When it was all said and done I brought the trim back down to the barn as a treat for my horse Kestrel, he loves snacking on trim leaves!
I also switched the the Neptune's Harvest Rose and Flowering as we're approaching flowering time and also gave them some good old fashioned Crosby's Molasses to get those sugars going!
Alright folks, I hate to admit it but I messed up. I deleted the photos for this week and I was so disappointed when I realized I did. My phone was glitching after an update so I did some maintenance and made some space, thinking I'd already uploaded my photos for the week to my drive because I'd done so for the Autos, but hadn't done the photoperiod pictures😣
But at least there's a video.
On 8/1 I went to the local mushroom farmer just a couple miles down the road and got some spent hardwood substrate blocks. While there's not enough food left in them to make mushrooms, there's still live mycelium. The mycelium creates a symbiotic relationship with the cannabis plant by entering the soil and taking up residence in the root system. The roots can only take up so much surface area, but the mycelium can take up much more. So in exchange for sugars from the plant, the mycelium gives back nutrients. So in order for the mycelium to enter the soil I crumbled a couple blocks around the base of each plant and then watered it in.
I hate playing this game of catch-up but it's just been wayyyy too busy and I've had hardly any time in the garden.
Well, thankfully I didn't delete these photos!
Good week for this girl👍
She's putting energy into making flowers and so far everything looks good. Her color could be a little darker but that's nothing I can't fix with a little feed.
With the Japanese Beetles showing up and everybody switched over to flower it's time for.... Pest Watch!
I'm gonna find 'em, and I'm gonna kill 'em!
14 hrs 3 mins daylight as of today.
We're in a heatwave right now. It's been over 100F in the sun this week, couple that with the high humidity and it's downright miserable out there to the point where I have a hard time keeping up with hydration.
I fed and watered this morning, but I really need to do some maintenance on these plants and remove some inner leaves and branches.
Regardless, Euphoria is doing just fine👌
13hrs 33 mins daylight as of 8/27 when I took these pics and video
Euphoria is doing just fine, as I say in the video and repeat myself several times with other phrases, so I apologize but I honestly couldn't think of much else to say. I may have had issues with Euphoria early on, but it seemed like once I got her in the ground she just flourished and has been drama-free since (knock on wood).
She's just doing fantastic🙌
Otherwise, the days are cooling off, the relentless humidity we've had for the past few weeks is moving out and I am very much looking forward to September. Those cool crisp nights, the colors starting to change, the flowers plumping up with crystalline trichomes and the smell... Oh the smell!
I do love harvest season!
Updating for the Week of 9/5
Unfortunately still behind but glad that I'm making videos so I don't have to remember everything!
Defoliated inner branches and fan leaves that needed to be moved out
Top dressed with some Down to Earth mineral Vegetable Garden 4-4-4. Put down about 1 cup spread out over the roots and then covered with some compost. We've been getting a lot of rain so I really don't need to water, therefore I think the dry will work out well and it saves time.
Updating for the week of 9/12
Euphoria is doing great. She responded well to the top dressing last week, but I figured she could use some more sugar so I gave her molasses and liquid nutes this week. There were a lot of worms that got exposed during watering so that's a really good sign that they're in there, working what wasn't completely broken down in the compost, and leaving worm castings behind👍
Otherwise I think it's all covered in the video! Obviously I didn't upload after taking photos and video, I thought I could push through my migraine a little more but then the kaleidoscope aura kicked in and I had to hide from the sun... and the rest of the world.
Happy growing
