What a week. I learned a lot. Today is Sunday, Week 3 started Wednesday and It’s been a bit hectic. It appears as is is my enthusiasm had overtaken rational thought.
Brimming with confidence and a head full of Lemon Kush, I got carried away and gave my resevoir a 3/4 blast of nutes! Whoops. Thank goodness my TDS meter arrived when it did.
Wed, Week 3, Day 1:
Things looking good.
Blasted the pH’ed nutes in, went to bed.
Thurs:
Morning: Things looking awesome, plants look as if like they grew a cm overnight.
Evening: Still looks good, Funny looking shading on leaves though. Patchy discoulouring on select leaves of biggest plant. TDS meter arrived.
Measurements come out to 1400 and 1300. Ok, got some data time for bed.
Friday:
PPM rising?! pH rising. Some roots no longer pearly white but a rusty brown colour. WTF? I had better get my read on.
So, it looks as if I have too many nutes or root rot. You can see in my pics the stages of black duct tape. There’s the potential that too much light gets through and that can lead to root rot. In hindsight I could have used reflective tape but thats what I had on hand. The black may heat up the res water, I’ll monitor that in my daily hard copy log. Covid makes it tough to head out and get anything these days.
The staining looks as if it’s the nutes and not rot. No smell, no slime.
So I’ve been scrambling to dilute my reservoirs. Worked at it all night Friday and all day Saturday. Last night I had things down to 800ppm in both tanks. The roots look better, and they are growing nicely but the tips of a few leaves are yellow.
Sunday Week 3.
Begin Online diary.
Ok, so I measured everything and res 2 looks to be stabilzed. pH is rising, ppm stayed about even.
Res 1 ppm is still climbing slowly. From 800 to 830 overnight.
I’m managing pH a lot right now. I try to set it at 5.7 in the AM and it usually rises to 6.7 by bedtime. I’m not gonna speculate as to why right at this second, there has been a lot going on and rising pH is not to be unexpected, in fact it’s meant to happen. At the rate it’s happening in my set up I’m not sure about.
I’m not real pleased with my resevoir bins. But they did cost anything so whatever. Note to self and readers. This bin set up will be challenging with respect to maintaining things once I get a canopy going.
I’ve built my SCROG so that it’s 25 cm (10”) above my baskets. Hopefully I can squirm underneath it.
Monday Ppm stable at 800 still. Plants looking good, growing nicely. Roots looking good too.
