Germination

jetblackboofpack Germinated in just under 48 hours. The method I used was wetting the paper towels until moist then putting the seed in between the two pieces. After that I put it inside a ziploc bag and blew it full of air. I stored it in a dark closet and misted it with a water spray bottle to dampen it a few times throughout the 48 hours. The taproot was probably .25 cm or less in length. I then used tweezers to deposit the seed in a hole about .5 in. down that was wetted before. I placed it taproot down and gently covered the hole with a small amount of soil. I then put the pot outside for about 5 hours of direct sunlight and put it on the windowsill for the remainder of the sunlight hours. This happened yesterday, so today I put it out again and will do so for another 5 hours or until it sprouts from the ground. I heard putting seedlings out in direct sunlight can harm/burn them so I plan on bringing it back in after it sprouts from the ground and slowly conditioning them over the course of the week so they can eventually stay out all day in sunlight. From seed to germination took 48 hours and I'm currently on day 2 since planting said germinated seed in a small pot. So 4 days total since the start of germination and thus the start of this diary. For those curious I am using Fox Farms salamander soil and water only for the vegetation period as I read that there are already nutrients in the soil and you shouldn't start feeding them nutrients until the flower stage. In that case I have Dr. Earth's flower girl and Real Grower's Recharge. I have never grown before so any tips appreciated, especially outdoor tips. Autflowers seem to yield more indoors compared to outdoors so I plan on trying LST to improve yield, although I never grew before let alone done stress techniques.

jetblackboofpack This isn't technically the vegetation start, it's the seedling start, but there wasn't a seedling option. This seed sprouted above the soil on the 5th day since germination was started, and 2 days since the germinated seed was planted. Day 5, today, is where I will start the beginning of it's vegetation period. This is the first day of vegetation as I'm typing this, so I will update and add images and text as the week progresses. If you have any tips please let me know. Vegetation Start - Week #1 (5 days since germination started and Day 1 of sprout) - Day #5 : Seed sprouted out of soil. Light misting in the morning. Plant currently inside due to weather (rain, high humidity). Plant is at windowsill and expected sunlight hours today are around 10 hours. No nutrients, just water (tap water) and the original potting soil (salamander soil). Don't have a PH tester or PH up and down so can't check or control PH. - Day #6: Plant grew a lot overnight and is reaching towards sunlight. Put a desk lamp with a normal light bulb above it to help assist during sunlight hours and give it extra hours of light after sunset. Ordered a small grow light from amazon in the meantime to assist during the seedling/early veg stages. Probably got around 10-13 hours of light. Still just misting it with a spray bottle, usually mist it 3-4 times throughout the day. I plan on putting it outside and hardening it gradually around 7-10 days from sprout. - Day #7: Plant was still stretching but replaced the normal desk lamp with a led mini grow light halfway through the day when it arrived. Seems to have slowed down the stretching and now is straight and filling out better. Still misting it with water, around 3-4 times a day, Expected light received today will be around 18 hours hopefully (Plant is kept at windowsill with light on and when the sun sets the light is kept on until it will be a total of 18 hours). - Day #8: Looks like its slowing the reaching towards the sun and leaves are growing. Received about 18 hours of light (10hrs direct + led light and 8hrs just led). Still just watering it with a spray bottle. Plant seems to get enough water but I hope it's not just wet at the top of the soil and dry at the bottom, so I will start pouring water instead of misting soon. - Day #9: More leave growth. Will harden it to sunlight over the course of a week in 2-5 days from now or when 2nd set of true leaves appear. Still misting it with spray bottle to water. Plant looks healthy, will transplant it in a 3-5 gallon pot when leaves reach the current pot ends. 5th day since sprout and only have been giving it sunlight and water. Received about 19 hours of light today. - Day #10: 2nd set of true leaves are getting bigger. Stopped using spray bottle and started watering normally. Added my dry nutes to a 3 gallon pot to let it soak in and be ready when I transplant in a week or so. Received about 18 hours of light today. Wanted to harden today but it was raining all day, will try tomorrow. - Day #11: Since the 2nd set of leaves are getting bigger I wanted to harden today but the daytime temps were 59 F and cloudy so I just will start the harden process tomorrow. Will put it out tom for 2-3 hours and slowly add 1-2 hours until it can handle the full day of sunlight. I will then transplant them into the 3 gallon pot when they are fully hardened. Received 18 hours of light today.

So my seedling just sprouted this morning and I am keeping at my windowsill where it only receives around 10 hrs of sunlight. Can I run a desk lamp using Sylvania ECO 60W LED lightbulb to assist in light? Or is my Vansky 51 LED UV Flashlight Black Light better?

jetblackboofpack Vegetation Start - Week #2 (12 days since germination started and 7 days since sprout) - Day #12: Putting the plant outside in direct sunlight for 3 hours, first day of the hardening process. Will add 1-2 hours every subsequent day. When it can handle the full sunlight hours I will transplant it to a 3 gallon pot amended with dr earths. Expected light hours today are 10 hours. 2nd set of true leaves growing bigger. Watered this morning. - Day #13: Putting the plant out in direct sunlight for 6 hour, second day of the hardening process, seemed to react well. Expected light hours today are around 18 hours. Stem was being blown around in the wind so stabilized with a plastic straw and bread tie. Added a minuscule amount of recharge that was leftover from watering my other plants. Will probably transplant to 3 gallon in 3-4 days from now. Appears like 2nd set of leave are slow to grow, but since it's my first ever grow idk. - Day #14: Putting the plant out in direct sunlight for 8 hours. third day of the hardening process. Will probably harden one last time tomorrow for 10-12 hours, and transplant in 2-3 days from now. Still only have 2 sets of leaves so waiting for more to appear. Watered this morning and stem is still stabilized by straw. Stem seems to be weak, probably due to no air circulation/fans the 1st week of seedling growth. Hope that having no fan during the 1st week doesn't mess the plant growth up, well see. - Day #15: Putting the plant out in direct sunlight for 10 hours, fourth day of the hardening process. Will transplant tomorrow or the day after. 6 new small leave spots growing out, plant is getting bigger. Watered this morning before putting it out. Will receive around 18 hours of light. Still stabilized by straw, hope the stem will be strong enough. - Day #16:: Transplanted today. Moved from 1L to 3 Gallon pot. Didn't see any exposed roots. Pot was amended with dr earths flower girl about a week ago (3 tsp for 3 gallon pot, scratching into the top soil). After Transplant I watered with about 1/3 gallon of water that was mixed full of calmag (1tsp) and recharge(.5 tsp). Hope I didn't go overboard with nutrients but I read that it is hard to overfeed with dry nutrients. Probably should be using different nutrients besides the dr earths bud and bloom as that is meant more for the flowering stage, but that is what I am working with. Followed the coco coir directions on the back of the calmag bottle (1tsp). Stem is still not that strong and still being supported by straw and bread tie after transplant. Will remove this once the stem strengthens in the wind. - Day #17: Left out in the sun for around 10 hrs. Light hours today are around 18 hours. Watered this morning. Still supporting stem. Seems like there is some leave growth and transplant was successful. Plant looking healthy so far. In the middle of the night my cat got in the closest and pulled out the stem support (straw and breadtie) and the plant was tilted 45 degrees. Hope they didn't mess things up. Luckily they didn't chew it. - Day #18: Left out in the sun for around 10 hours. Light hours today are around 18 hours. Luckily it seems the cat did not mess up my plant as there is still growth. Watered this morning. Stem is still being supported, concerned about the stem strength but well see. When compared to other diaries of the same strain genetics at this time period it appears my plant is slower leave growth-wise and the stem is taller. Hope the grow will yield a lot and quality buds. Sunrise at 6:00 AM and sunset at 8:00PM so 14 hours of sunlight total. But there are houses that block about 2-3 hours of sun during sunrise and sunset so around 11-12 hours realistically. Supplementing the rest of the hours with led to meet 18 hours total (And sometimes longer because my led is cheap).

This seedling grew for about 1 week without any wind. I now put the plant outside for 10-14 hours where it receives wind. I bring it in at night under a light, do I need a fan when it is indoors? I have the stem stabilized with a straw and bread tie until it gets stronger.

jetblackboofpack Vegetation Start - Week #3 (19 days since germination started and 14 days since sprout) - Day #19: Put plant outside. Sunlight hours around 10 hours. Stem still supported. Watered this morning. Leaves growing and new leave spots appearing. - Day #20: After bringing in plant at night there were around 3 small winged insects resting on the top and bottom of the leaves standing still. After research they are probably winged aphids, although I never grew before so idk Removed them with tweezers and upon closer inspection with a microscope there were really tiny white/greenish bugs. Only saw like 1-3 of them. Decided to cut some pieces off of my ivory bar soap (for showers), mix it into a small spray bottle, and spray the top and bottom of the leaves and plant. Will now start to spray with soapy-water before putting outside every morning and possibly spray them again after taking them in at night if they pests get too bad. Plant appears healthy but I probably caught it early so I hopefully can prevent it from getting worse if these are indeed aphids. I guess bugs are just part of the package of outdoor grows but never expected them this early. Must be a nightmare to deal with when the plant starts budding and is much bigger. Hopefully a successful grow. Stem is stronger and straight. Will remove support soon. Watered this morning with recharge. - Day #21: Didn't take pictures today but growth was fast and plant looks healthy. Spraying the top and bottom of leaves with soapy water 2x a day, morning and night. To help assist against pests I also ripped off a mint leaf and rubbed it around the pot rim. Have many mint plants so I will continue to rub leaves around the pot every morning. Don't know how much it will help but anything to deter pests will help my worry. Watered this morning. Stem seems strong enough but will still keep support for strong gusts of wind. - Day #22: Going to stop watering daily and start to water every other day now. So no water today. Plant has been receiving around 9-12 hours of sunlight. Hoping that during flowering I can attain at least 14 hours of sunlight daily. I am looking at starting an indoor grow in my closet but I plan on waiting a few months before I do depending on my living situations. - Day #23: Decided not to water today and will water tomorrow, so watering once every 3 days. Pulled a couple of those same bugs off the plant before bringing in at night. Hopefully the soil being less moist will help with pests. Plant growing fast and seems to handle the less water, so I was probably overwatering it. Around 10 hours of sunlight. Stem still has support but stem is strong enough now, only keeping it for strong gusts of wind. Still spraying with soapy water 2x daily. Will continue doing this until harvest probably, plant seems unaffected by it. Probably will LST soon as well. Plant about 4.5 in tall. - Day #24: Watered with around .3-.5 gallons of water today. Mixed in a half a teaspoon of calmag and a pinch of recharge. Very windy today. Sprayed soapy water 2x. Under led all night. Plant growing very fast. - Day #25: Same shit. Plant growing fast, cloudy all day though. 20 days from sprout.

I'm growing outdoors and during the first few days my seedling stretched and the stem is pretty long. I already transplanted into a 3 gallon pot but did not bury deeper. Should I add more soil and make the plant shorter? If so how deep should the stem be? Pic attached.

This is quite normal for seedlings, if you add extra soil you increase the risk of rotting the stem so I would advise against it. Just put extra support and you should be fine.

For me you have 3 options, as you are still in veg and the flowers won't be affected.... 1. Chemical warfare, treat the soil and plant with chemical based bug killer, you can get ones specific to aphids but this is only to be used in veg, not in flower. 2. if problem persists (into flower also) you can get predatory insects like ladybirds and similar for a relatively cheap cost. They demolish these types of insects. 3. Neem oil and insecticidel soap mixed with water and sprayed onto the plant is a proven method to make the plant un inhabitable for insects. You will also want to research how and why they've appeared so you can try to prevent it from happening again next time 🌱👍

It's been 17 days since sprout and is around 4 inches tall. The stem is a little skinny but otherwise a healthy plant so far. So when should I start LST? I'm also growing outdoors so when I tie the branches down/back what way do I orient the exposed part? Pics are in my diary.

So, your plant is a tad too short when compared to the rim of your container. I would wait for another set of leaves. For LST I recommend you start slowly and give the plant a lot of support. For example be sure the stem is supported at the base (until the first set of leaves, the cotyledons) and bend only the top. Now the top should be bent below the other nodes you want to grow bigger, BUT BE CAREFUL and do it slowly...bending it gently every few hours to a day until you can bend it to the point you want Then just keep bending any branch that is taller than the rest. LST is very effective of breaking the apical dominance of cannabis and spreading the hormones around, so instead of one giant main stem you can create many side branches, although they will all be smaller than an untrained plant. But great to keep them bushy and small. So just give it a try.

jetblackboofpack Vegetation Start - Week #4 (26 days since germination started and 21 days since sprout) - Day #26: Fast growth. Little cloudy. - Day #27: Watered around .4 gallon today. Added a half a tsp of recharge in the water as well. Little cloudy. - Day #28: Good growth. Forecast for the next 5 days is all clouds and rain so hopefully it isn't as bad as projected. Bugs still annoying and spraying more soapy water. - Day #29: Was out in only around 5 hours sunlight today due to weather. Gonna put it under leds the rest of the day. Those leds are not meant for anything bigger than seedlings really so It sucks i might have to use it for main source of light in the upcoming days if the weather doesn't improve. It was raining, cloudy, windy and low temperatures today so impossible to leave out. Weather for the next 8 days are projected to be cloudy, raining, windy, and low temperatures. Terrible timing as it appears my plant just started pre flowering. Gonna try and put it out during any breaks in the weather as much as possible. Will most likely water with calmag tomorrow. I also plan on amending the soil with the dr earths again as the first amendment was a low dose and it takes a week or two to really mix in. Plant has been healthy so far but plant isn't as bushy at this stage when compared to other diaries of the same strain. - Day #30: Inside under small led all day. Decided to add my 8.8 watt 800 lumens led smart lightbulb to try and assist lighting. These two lights definitely aren't enough for the plant during veg, let alone during preflower and flower so hopefully the weather clears. Raining all day, windy, 48 degrees, 90% humidity. Didn't water today and plant seems to still be doing fine, might water tomorrow or the day after. Topsoil is dry but soil underneath is still moist. Trying to stop fungus gnats if that's what these bugs are. Especially with the high humidity and a lot of rain I want to try and prevent any problems and heard that plants receiving less water than intended is better than overwatering, especially outdoor grows. - Day #31: Same situation. Plant inside under small lights all day. Going on 4 days without water and still didn't water yet and plant looks healthy. Bugs have reduced but that's probably more because the plant has been inside for the past few days. More white hairs appearing and plant getting taller. Around 1 foot tall, still not that bushy. Hope that when the weather clears this plant explodes more. Tomorrow and the day after are projected to be cloudy and partially cloudy with slight chance of showers so hopefully that's when I put the plant out. Weather for the next like 10 days is all either partly cloudy or scattered thunderstorms so the weather is really against me here, especially now that she is starting to preflower and needs sunlight the most during flower. Will put out in sunlight as much as possible. Will definitely water tomorrow with calmag and probably add some recharge as well. Will amended the soil with dr earths tomorrow as well. - Day #32: Plant outside for 11 hours, partly cloudy and windy. Watered with around .4 gallons with 1 tsp calmag added and .5 tsp recharge added. Also amended the soil with 4 tsp of dr earths bud and bloom. Sprayed with soapy water at night.

jetblackboofpack Flowering Start - Week #1 (33 days since germination started and 28 days since sprout) - Day #33: Started to preflower and white hairs appeared last week so this is the start of flowering, week 1. Plant was outside for around 11 hours. Plant is around 15 inches tall and will probably need a stake as it gets taller and the buds get heavier. More white hairs appearing, would've hoped the plant was bushier but it is what it is. Sprayed soapy water at night. - Day #34: Plant outside for around 9 hours (woke up late). No smell. Pistils appearing and getting larger. Around 17in tall - Day #35: Inside all day under leds due to weather. Was raining, cloudy, and 90% humidity. Tomorrow is looking to be the same so hopefully it clears up. No water today. Plant is around 19 inches tall and growing in height quickly. I would've liked for it to be bushier but hopefully it fills out as the weather becomes better. Still no smell. - Day #36: Plant outside for around 5 hours. Indoor under led the rest of the day due to rain, overcast, and high humidity. Forecast for the next few days is clear and partially cloudy with lower humidity so hopefully no more days under led all day. Still didn't water due to high humidity and will water tomorrow. Staked today with a random stick I found although it will probably outgrow it. - Day #37: Weather is perfect so plant was outside for around 11 hours. Watered with about .5 gallon today that had .5 teaspoon of recharge added. - Day #38: Weather is clear, 95 F, and around 40% humidity. Plant growing taller and canopy getting more bushier. Outside for around 11 hours. Sprayed soapy water. Almost outgrown stake so gonna have to get a taller one and maybe some fly traps as well. - Day #39: Around 11 hours sunlight. Watered around .6 gallons mid-day with calmag after noticing the bottom leaves showing spots and the soil being really dry. Weather was really hot past few days and since plant is in flower on top of that I definitely need to water more or more often. Gonna stop spraying with soapy water as it can cause bud rot and affect the flavor.I have been using it more as a preventative measure to prevent infestations. Bud spots are growing but no purple color. It's unfortunately most likely the phenotype that doesn't display purple colors, although 85% of plants should display it. Must've gotten the unlucky 15% that doesn't although it's exactly the same smoke. Next few days are supposed to be rainy and cloudy so hopefully not too bad.

So I've been using just a simple spray of water and shower bar soap mixed in to handle insects. I usually spray daily at night where I cover the top and bottom of the leaves. Is this fine to do during flower or will it affect taste and possibly increase the chance of bud rot?

You will be smoking anything you spray onto the flowers. Spraying will also increase the chances of bud rot. There should be no need to spray unless there are actually insects infesting your plant. Once flowering and trichome production begins, insects should not be a real problem, you may get the odd one, but it is far better to remove them by hand than spray your entire plant. Cannabis is almost bullet proof when it comes to insects, unless your plants are weak and/or diseased. Hope this helps,.......... Organoman.

When should I harvest? I've read that you should harvest when trichomes are 20-30% amber/brown. In the pic I attached I used a jewelers loop to view the trichomes and to me they look 20-30% amber. Listed time for LSD-25 from seed to harvest is 8-10 weeks.

I’d personally let it go another week (maybe two) and reassess. They do look like a good amount of amber in areas but I’ve noticed sometimes you can get amber trichs from spots being “damaged” or being touched or other factors. Judging by the pics from diary I think she needs to bulk up more..

jetblackboofpack Flowering Start - Week #5 (61 days since germination started and 56 days since sprout) - Day #61: 11 hours sunlight. Watered 1.2 gallons with no nutes. Temperature was 94F so I watered .6 gallons in the morning and .5 gallons before sunset as the soil wasn't that moist. - Day #62: 11 hours sunlight. Watered .7 gallons with no nutes. - Day #63: Inside all day due to rain. Watered .7 gallons with no nutes. - Day #64: 11 hours sunlight. No watered .7 gallons with 1 tsp of clamag and .5 tsp of recharge. - Day #65: Inside all day due to rain. No water. - Day #66: Chopped and Harvested today. 66 days since germination and 61 days since sprout. About 8.7 weeks since sprout. Could've waited longer but patience is hard. Wet weight is 150 grams. Subtract around 70% (wet weight) and it's about 45 grams or 1.6 oz. Remove some stem/leaf weight and that's probably around 1-1.4 oz. Definitely would've liked more but the quality seems really good, the purple phenotype expressed itself, it was an outdoor grow so it only received around 11 hours of sunlight, never did LST or HST, and lastly I never measured the pH once throughout this whole grow and just watered with NYC tap water. I did a light wet trim just cutting off the fan leaves and will let it dry for 3-4 days with my A/C on at 69 F and around 50% humidity. After it's dry I will do a full dry trim and weigh it again, then I will cure for around 2-4 weeks.

Week 9. Harvest

Happy Harvest Day!

Buds turned a nice purple color and beautiful phenotypes expressed themselves. Plant wasn't that smelly at all unless you got close. I harvested early, grew outdoors, and got less sunlight then the recommended 18hrs so the final product was not strong imo, Although it did do it's job, just needed to smoke more. I also had to put them in the oven on the lowest temp for around 10-15 minutes to dry them as where I live the humidity was too high to dry them and one bud started to just develop some mold that I quickly cut off and isolated. 7/10 as it's my first grow and I have nothing to compare it to. I also could've made it stronger and harvested more weight if I didn't have issues that were no fault of the genetics. If grown indoors and I gave it more time until harvest and didn't have to oven dry them then they would have no doubt been much better. Regardless, the plant alone is beautiful to look at and the ease of growing is perfect for beginners.
