First Grow - Humboldt OG Kush Fem Seeds

bSandersWitASteelChair 5/14: A ended up falling over so I decided to move the dirt around and see what I could see with respect to its root structure. It had one very long, extremely thin dried out root that extended about 2-3 inches and ended in a little tangled up taproot. There was a little worm/nematode/larvae something crawling around in it. I attached video. I'm assuming I need to dump all my water and sterilize, re-ph, etc. Everything is already watered for tonight (should have pulled A first in hindsight) so too late to do anything about the other 2 plants, though they do look pretty healthy still. --------------------- 5/13: Transplanted E into her pot this morning. Same soil mix (3 parts FFOF to 1 part perlite). Seedling C is crushing it, with second set of leaves already forming. E is probably going to go quiet for a day or 2 while it recovers from transplanting. Seedling A looks like it might be overwatered? It feels pretty frail compared to the other 2 plants and the downward curl of the leaves I think suggest too much H20. Will be letting them dry out a bit today. Also, turned up the lamp to 600W and moved it to about 24 inches from the tops. Temperatures are consistently 74-77F and RH holding right around 50%. Still no nutrients. I plan to add them around week 3, unless I see signs they need it sooner. -------------- Out of 5 seeds we started, A, C, and E remain. E a few days behind A and C but growing faster. Planted A and C in FFOF/Perlite 3/1 about 4 gallons total in a 5 gallon bucket. Will do the same for E in a couple days. Moved the light up a bit to account for the buckets. Water ph'd to just about 6.0. Light still on 250W but will be moving up to 400W when they wake up later today. Will go to 600W once all are in pots and at a relatively uniform height. Currently just trying to keep the RH close to 70 and the air temp less than 80. No nutrients for 3-4 weeks unless they look hungry, since FFOF has quite a bit in it to begin with. If not for me killing seed B and seed D never germinating, I'd say we're off to an OK start. The 3 that are growing, seem to be growing extremely well. I put together my own ScrOG that I will install once the light is out of the way, and plan to top these a few times each and LST. I was hoping to have 4 plants to fill the space but we will do our best with 3.

bSandersWitASteelChair 5/18: chiming in here while the plants are sleeping to let everybody know that I just counted my seed stash and actually have 6 seeds left...meaning I only ever tried to germinate 4 in total (3 in the original run and 1 a couple days later). I was staring at a starter tray that literally didn't have a seed in it, expecting it to grow. 😵 So I've only failed twice, not 3 times. That makes me feel a little better. Cool story bro. 5/17:Start of week 2 veg...I managed to kill 2 seedlings and 1 seed never germinated, but the 2 ladies that have survived my incompetence look to be showing good signs. It does feel like they're taking forever to grow. For example, seed E was planted in soil (with about 3/4" of root) 10 days ago. Seed C was about 5 days before that. I see pics on here and elsewhere showing way more growth at this stage. I assume it's because I've been fumbling around figuring out exactly how much to water, transplanting to big ass pots, etc. Sub-optimal. I do feel like I've got much more of a handle on things. Fingers crossed we see some progress this week!

bSandersWitASteelChair 5/28 AM: not much to say. Things look good. Plants seem to have handled to the over-fert without issue so far. Soil still moist near the roots from 5/26 watering, so will probably water tomorrow, with nutrients (at the correct concentrations) again on Monday. --------------------------- 5/26 AM check in: Things are looking really nice this morning. Got a little chilly last night (tent got down into the low 60's) but that didn't seem to slow anybody down. Getting pretty psyched with how nice these 2 little ladies are looking after such a drawn out, difficult start. The 'over'-fertilization hasn't seemed to hurt anybody yet. Watered with about 0.5L each (ph 5.7) this morning. --------------------------------------------------------------- 5/24 PM check in: Well, they seem to have loved the fertilizer! I swear that E grew to nearly where C started today, catching up nearly 2 days in ~14 hours! Or maybe my eyes are playing tricks 😀 In any case, today was a tough day outside of this grow, so it was nice to check in on it tonight and end the day on a high note. -------------------------------------------------------------- 5/24/2021: Start of Week 3 The ladies are looking nice! C is really starting to pick up speed and E is nearly finished unfurling its first pair of leaves. Looking forward to this week's developments! Sticking to my plan of introducing nutrients at Week 3. I goofed doing the numbers this morning and forgot to cut the overall numbers by half, so ended up feeding the full strength for week 3 off the schedule. Almost certainly too much. Will likely skip feeding Thursday/Friday this week and pick it back up next week at the correct concentrations. I fed about 8 oz. to each plant. That said, pH and TDS looked nice in the fertilizer mixture. No need to adjust pH after adding the nutrients. TDS slightly higher than I'd like but again, these nutrients should've been half what they were, so being slightly above range per the FF datasheet doesn't scare me too much. Our water is insanely hard to begin with (tap water comes out in the hundreds). Since we've only got 2 plants going, and they are really taking a while to get up to speed, I plan on probably letting veg go for 6-8 weeks at least. I want to try to get some nice bushy plants before flipping to flower, and I don't think 14 more days is going to do it. I've been making a lot of little mistakes that are slowing us down but chaos is how I learn! Lighting and Ventilation have been updated. I finally routed some duct to the carbon filter in the tent so the air is being sucked out from a much higher position, which has improved humidity stability by quite a bit. I also turned down the MH light last week to 400W, as 600W made it extremely difficult to maintain humidity in my tent. I picked up an HLG65 to propagate clones with (wife and I are trying out vegetables too) and since it was currently un-used, I added it to the tent. So we've got about 465W of light running (65 of which are LED) and an RH hovering in the high 40's. Temps stable in the low to mid 70's. It's a beautiful day in there now! I started some lettuce and radish seeds last week and they're already exploding out of the dirt.

bSandersWitASteelChair 6/5/21: Evening update…watered 8oz each this morning around 7:30. Was adjusting the ties on C and decided to remove most of them and add a stake. I didn’t like the way the main stem was growing under the LST pressure and I know it’s probably no different either way, but I am who I am. Decided to do similarly with E while I was at it. Plants seem healthy! 6/4/21: Evening update...expected to need to water again by now but I guess 12oz is a little too much to get through in 2 days. Soil was still slightly moist near the roots near the surface, so I decided to hold off on watering until tomorrow. 6/3/21: Morning update...plants really take to the feeding. 8 hours later some real growth. Next feed should be Sunday. C is getting close to ready for first topping I think. Evening update...added ties to the top leaves on C. Big growth between this morning and now (about 14 hours). Pretty cool! 6/2/21: LST still fine after 24 hours. Fed each plant 12 oz of nutrient water. 6/1/21: LST started tonight per the pics. Stems straightened out enough to make me happy so pulled each pair of true leaves as parallel with the ground as I could get them. Super gentle; it's just a twist-tie staked into the dirt and formed into a tiny hook. I'll be surprised if they're all still in place tomorrow. This was more of a test run than anything (I haven't figured out how I'm going to tie them off long term). If it works, great! My philosophy is to start LST as early as I feel comfortable. Tomorrow should be no water, then looking at nutrients Thursday. 5/31/21: Photos added. Straightened out C with a twist-tie hooked around the stem and stuck in the dirt. Extremely low stress, just want to get it straightened back out before it gets too stiff if I can. Watered 8 oz. each plain water. Maybe could have waited until morning to water. Shouldn't hurt anything, was dry down about a knuckle and a half. Just a note for next time. 5/30/21: Plants looking great. Fed nutrients this morning at the correct concentrations. Probably another week or so until we go for the first topping. Can't believe the shades of green! Even got the first showings of suckers coming off the main stem. Just noticed that C only has 4 tips on its current set of leaves, with 5 coming on the next. I've never seen a 4-tipped pot leaf before!

bSandersWitASteelChair 6/12/21: Topped both to the 4th node this morning. Took to the current nutrient regimen like champs and are really perked back up and growing strong. Smell has probably doubled this week alone. Looking forward to week 6 of veg! 6/11/21: Continued improvements from yesterday. Node 4 on both plants is looking really prime for a topping. Trying to give the plants a little break before stress though, since early this week was a bit hard on them. Fed 24oz each of the same nutrient blend in the evening. 6/10/21: Getting some turgor back in the leaves this morning, which is nice to see. Yesterday they did not look so hot, showing further signs of being overwatered. I did add some H2O2 again yesterday around midday. 6/9/21: Things looked good and dry this morning. Fed with a new nutrient scheme to try and address some deficiencies - I did some more reading and learned that OG Kush in general is a calcium and magnesium hungry strain, apparently. Hoping that adding some of the flowering nutes to bring up P and K a little bit, while limiting N (since we've got plenty in the Cal Mag and Grow Big). I love the way they look from the top - nice big leaves in a short bushy plant, but from the side they don't look so hot. Hoping the new nutrient profile kicks things into gear. I'm approaching my planned end to vegetation and think it's going to have to be extended. I haven't even topped yet - just got a convincing 5th node on C and E is a day or 2 behind. 6/8/21: Increased water too soon after previous watering, overwatered. Added 3tbsp hydrogen peroxide to 16oz water and gave half to each last night; they're much more perked this morning. Planning to supplement fox farms nutes with cal mag+ this week. 6/7/21: Starting with more water this week, approx. double from last week, but distributed more throughout the pots. Noticing a little hint of skunk when I open up the tent :) Happy Monday! 6/6/21: Gonna look into some comments about possible deficiencies. We are starting week 5 in ocean forest diluted with perlite, so my low concentration feeding may be insufficient now. A fair point and a good comment from another user (thanks!). I have some topping in mind for later this week but we'll see how things go. The closer it comes to being time to do it, the less I want to chop their little heads off :[

bSandersWitASteelChair 6/19/21: Watered yesterday with 1 qt each. Both plants are really thriving and turgid. They seem to be totally okay with the elevated temps (mid 80's in the tent all week) and the lower humidity (barely keeping things above 40%). Still planning on flipping in 2 weeks or so. True to the genetics, very short bushy plants. All they want to do is grow out, not up (the scrog obviously helps)! 6/17/21: Fed with nutrients yesterday at the typical concentrations. 1 qt per plant. Also put my scrog net in and started training. I think I probably need to start thinking about defoliation as these little plants are so compact. Heat wave this week just like the rest of the country it seems so just trying to survive. Another top this weekend, then flower in a couple weeks? I am hoping to get some good cuttings off these for the next grow. 6/14/21: Topped both plants yesterday, 6/13. They responded really well I think. 8 really nice stems on each plant. They're so bushy and round and green I just find them really nice to look at! I've trained most of the fan leaves down to make room for the growth tips. C responded to this far better than E has so far, with a nice canopy forming already. Watered with 32 oz per plant this morning @ Ph 6.3.

bSandersWitASteelChair Pics are probably out of order. Forgot to make a new week, so moved everything over from the 20th on. Don't care enough to reorder and relabel all the pics. Will label new ones going forward. 6/24/21: Checked in on things and both have responded extremely well to the topping and the added LST tie downs I put in last night to try and help direct some of the growth to fill the scrog. Starting to get pretty wide and I’d say in a few days we should be wall-to-wall (on one axis 😅). 6/23/21: did some topping this morning on stems that were getting too tall. This week will probably be the last round of any topping/defo until flower. Starting to see signs of sexual maturity/preflower which is awesome. Fed at an increased concentration today and about 40oz per plant, half an hour before lights out. 6/22/21: Been insanely busy with work and life. Lots of pics added today. Did some light defoliation on Sunday and Monday, and keep trying to fill the screen. I know with 2 plants it's unrealistic to fill a 3x3 unless I veg for a lot longer than I really want to. I'd like to get on a 12/12 schedule from a heat and power standpoint sometime in the next couple 2-3 weeks. Plants are continuing to grow pretty well. New growth shows those same little white spots found on the older growth. Next feeding I think I will up the cal mag and/or increase the FF concentrations (been using 1/2 strength). Will see how they do. Watered with a quart each ph'd to 6.3 this morning.

bSandersWitASteelChair 6/30/21: little bit of leaf curl on some tips this morning. Will be monitoring. Otherwise, just keeping on tucking and and trying to get the humidity down. Weird, I couldn't get it above 40% a few weeks ago, and now I can't get it below 50. 6/29/21: Did a little scrog tucking this morning. Plants are really loving life it seems. Lots of nice prospective bud sites are making their way up to and through the screen, on each plant. 6/28/21: fed about 48 oz each at the listed concentrations. 1300 TDS and 6.1 pH. Light is at 400W. 6/27/21: Update to follow this evening. 6/26/21: switched to the HPS bulb and 12/12 schedule.

bSandersWitASteelChair 7/7/21: Fed a bit over 48oz each this morning with big bloom, tiger bloom, and cal mag. Plants are ripping through the water now - I probably could've fed last night, which is right on a 36 hour cycle. They just keep throwing out green shoots and I just keep tucking them into the ScrOG. We're just about to 6 sqft of weed which is way more than I expected off 2 plants. Need to rein my expectations in before I get too excited 😎 7/5/21: Haven't updated in a while. Plants look great, did some light trimming this morning to improve airflow. Watered this morning as well, 48 oz each. Fed on 7/3 with last week's nutrient profile. This week, I'm taking the Grow Big out per the FF trio instructions. Tons of potential bud sites making their way to and through the screen. They really exploded this past week.

bSandersWitASteelChair 7/15: 👍🏻 7/14: added grow big back in at 1.5 tsp per gal for this feed and next. Watered in the morning. About 36 hours seems like the sweet spot. If I water in the evening, the morning after the following day they are good to go (and vice versa). Continuing to grow like crazy, a lot more bud development this week 7/13: Watered with a full can each last night (so 7/12) rather than waiting until the morning to compare to last time. Last watering I waiting until the morning and they were pretty wilted (see 7/11). Will see how they do tonight, and whether or not they’re overwatered. Looked great this morning 7/12: perked right back up. 7/11: plants looked a little tired this morning which I half expected. I was either going to water last night or today, and decided to wait. Fed this morning, with a little extra volume as they really are ripping through the H2O. Heat wave again this weekend may be adding to some stress though the tent tends to stay in the low 80’s

bSandersWitASteelChair 7/23: oh my god the smell! Brush a few trichomes off one one of the fan leaves and the sticky, sweet lemon fragrance is to die for! Buds are starting to stack up nicely and everything is start to frost up beautifully. Fed tonight. Next feed will add the grow big back in i think per the schedule. A couple stalks are so stretched I’m worried they’ll toast, but fingers crossed. Light is just about as high as I can get it. 7/22: Did some defoliation last night. Any big fans under the screen and anything that was never going to see light got trimmed. I swear they stretched again after! Really happy with how things are going. Water this morning, food tomorrow night. 7/21: Fed last night with the nutrient profile listed in this week. Note added 0.5 tsp of Cal Mag (33% increase). Leaves showed some lightening akin to one of my early grow questions. Have also been pinching off the occasional dead leaf from deep in the plants. Things are getting frosty up top! 7/19: I was out of town over the weekend. Mixed up nutrients before leaving and my wife fed them Saturday night. I opened the tent this morning to this wonderful view :) watered this AM as well. Trying to keep the lamp a respectful distance is getting more and more difficult!

bSandersWitASteelChair 7/31: water in evening. 7/30: fed this morning. 7/28: got sidetracked this morning so watered tonight, half gallon each ph 6.3. Tent smells a little musty so I turned on the dehumidifier. Meter is showing low 50% rh. High 70’s for temps. Plants look really nice! 7/26: fed tonight, added grow big back in. Water should be 7/28 am. Got a little magnifying lens to check out the trichomes. Pretty cool! 7/25: 4 weeks of flowering complete! Planning for at least 4 more depending on how things go. Buds are fattening and stacking up every day. Moved one of my clip fans to above the canopy to help with air circulation. Watered this morning, half gallon each. Food in 36 hours (adding grow big back in).

bSandersWitASteelChair 8/7 watered this morning. Cleaned out a lot of the fan leaves underneath the canopy. 8/5: tonight will be last feed, then planning on flushing for 2 weeks. Prelim. harvest date of about 8/21 given the estimates from Humboldt. Snuck in a couple minutes before the HPS turned on to get some better lighting pictures and a look at the trichomes. They’re basically all milky white. Some amber starting in the fuzz. 8/4: water this morning (should’ve been last night but plants did not appear to complain). 8/2: fed this morning. Smell is getting quite strong.

bSandersWitASteelChair 8/14: Friday the 13th! Nothing special today, just water ph’d to 6.35. 8/12: Just pictures today. 8/11: watered this evening. 8/10: watered this morning, ph 6.4. Wife said “wow it smells so much stronger than the last time” she checked in. Seems to be going well. 8/8: No nutrients this week; water only. Whole tent smells like the most delightful lemon funk. Predicted harvest date 8/21.

bSandersWitASteelChair 8/21: still too early to harvest. Plants are still damp under the surface 36 hours after watering, so they’re definitely slowing down. Buds are bigger than anything I’ve ever seen. Really excited to harvest, should be any day now I think. 8/20: Day 98, day 55 of flower. Watered this morning. Harvest should be imminent per the seed source (55-60 days flower). 8/18: took a few days away. Automatic watering setup worked pretty good. Trichomes still look too young to me to harvest this weekend.

bSandersWitASteelChair 8/28: day 63 of flower, still not ready 8/27: watered this morning. 8/26: Day 61 of flowering, still not ready. 8/25: watered this morning. 8/24: some of the buds have gotten so heavy around the edges I am legit concerned they may break the stems. Understanding why folks add a second screen now. Trying to make do with some bootleg trellis strings from the ceiling. Next time definitely want to focus on better support for late in the grow and possibly supplementing to improve stem strength. 8/23: watered this morning with the usual amount. Ph about 6.4 - I think next time I am going to reduce the amount of water because this marks about 72 hours since last water (was on a 36 hour schedule before). They are not drinking like they used to. 8/22: start of week 16. Plants still need time. Still not watering until the dirt feels more dried out.

bSandersWitASteelChair 9/3: Watered last night. 9/2: still not dry enough for water this morning. 1 full week beyond the Humboldt guidelines for harvest now. Trichomes are fully milky on both plants but i cannot for the life of me spot much amber at all. I am hoping to harvest soon; getting tired of paying for weed when I have this sitting there! 8/31: watered this AM. 8/30: Day 65 of flower. still no amber 8/29: senescence really kicking in at this point. Still no visible amber in the trichomes, at least that I can find. watered PM.

bSandersWitASteelChair Harvested today 9/6. Pulled just under 1300g wet weight and hung to dry in the tent.
