I decided to do a second grow of Nirvana AK48 Auto. I recently finished an earlier grow of AK48 and was impressed with its manageable size and resilience. I topped before the flowering stage and she was perfectly happy about me doing stuff to her with a pair of scissors. She is tolerant of my (many) mistakes and I was pleased with the yield even though I had less than ideal lighting and small pot size. The nugs are very frosty and extremely resinous...I have to frequently separate the nugs in their curing jars as they will stick together in a big lump LOL. The effects of AK48 are very good - its a very happy and kind high which made me want to grow it again. For this grow, I have swapped my old blurple light for a nice Spider Farmer SF1000. I also have a 20L fabric pot and a bit more experience now so I am hoping for a big harvest towards the middle of the summer. Lots of massive nugs and some nice hash. Much love, peace and howls to all 😛 👉16 May 2021 (Day 3) - Gave the seedling 200mL of water. 👉18 May 2021 (Day 5) - Gave the seedling 200mL of water. 👉20 May 2021 (Day 7) - Gave the seedling 500mL of water (water distributed over the whole soil area as it was looking a bit dry). 👉AK48 Info👈 The AK 48 Autoflower is an indica dominant cross between the AK-48 and the Ruderalis. This hybrid has a longer flowering time, about 77-91 days, and a moderate yield of 300-400g/m2. It has good resistance to mold and temperature changes, and will bring you several harvests per year. The plant has a low growth, up to 100 cm and has a weak smell. AK 48 Autoflower is perfect for novice growers. The effect is well-balanced, euphoric, happy and relaxing. This strain also helps to cope with insomnia, stress and depression. The aroma and taste of the AK 48 Autoflower is the same as that of its predecessor-earthy, floral, berry and sweet. This strain can be consumed in the daytime and in the evening. The THC level is quite low, 14-16%.

Welcome to week 2. She's still looking good and the growth rate is about to hit the power-band. Its amazing to look at her every morning and notice really strong growth. Light levels are gentle (2465 Lux @ 25cm between light and soil surface) and I am increasing the light slowly as well as giving her an 18/6 cycle. I am giving a few hundred mL's of water every other day, just to keep the area around the seedling moistened but not saturated. I will add supplements once a week at 1/4 strength at the start of week three. Howls to all and happy growing 😋 👉 22 May 2021 (Day 9) - Gave the seedling 500mL of water (water distributed over the whole soil area). 👉 23 May 2021 (Day 10) - Soil appeared very dry this morning, so gave 1L of water. Leaves drooped a bit for an hour or so, but quickly picked up again. I'm going to start watering every three days now, but with larger volumes which are increased incrementally as the plant grows. Water in this area is hard and the water TDS is about 180ppm. I bottle water and let it sit for a few days before I use it to allow degassing. Water pH is neutral (pH 7.0). Also raised light to 56cm with 7354 Lux at the soil surface. 👉 26 May 2021 (Day 13) - Coming to the end of week 2, so introducing nutrients at 1/4 strength. Bolus volume of mixed nutrients added was 750mL. The concentrations of nutrients are following the schedule and dosing recommendations for Biobizz All Mix soil, but at 1/4 recommended strength as I don't want to burn the plant. TDS of mixed nutrients was 197 ppm. There was no run-off at this stage, so I can't give a TDS run-off value yet.

Week 3 already! I'm pleased with the way she is shaping up, she looks really healthy. I will be topping when she gets her 4th node established and will also begin LST soon. Feeding (every 6th day) will be at 1/4 of the doses recommended by Biobizz for week 3 plants in Allmix soil. I'm also including Cannazym in the feed to break down waste matter and promote soil microbial health. Howls and peace to all 😝 👉 29 May 2021 (Day 16) - Gave 1000mL of water 👉 31 May 2021 (Day 18) - Gave 1000mL of water (she seems a bit thirsty at the moment) 👉 01 June 2021 (Day 19) - Raised light to 61cm - 7670 Lux at top of plant.

Hello. I know that I shouldn't water unless the top inch of soil is dry, but when I do add water should I add enough to get 10% run off even with a day-19 plant? She is in a 5 gallon fabric pot with Biobizz Allmix soil. Does the 10% run-off thing also apply to feeding? Thanks.

I'm using the same soil as you.. good choice 😝.. that's how I water. I also run 2l of plain water through sometimes (to get rid of salt buildup) then I run 2L of nutes. You can't overwater them in one go. It just needs to dry out (not fully) before the next watering. So much conflicting information about. I soaked my pot 24hours before seed then left it for 10 days and my plants are looking big for their age I think. I water 2L when they feel really light and i haven't had any issues 😊

Week 4 She is still showing great growth and is looking healthy despite my relative inexperience. I'm learning a lot from the helpful and kind people on GD and I hope that in turn, I will be able to help others. The key learning point over the past week has been how to improve and better manage watering and feeding. My understanding now is that the term 'overwatering' applies to the frequency of watering, not so much the amount. I'm now waiting until the top inch of soil is dry and then watering / feeding to get a 10-20% run off which will help flush away salt buildup in the soil and prevent nutrient lockout. Looking back on my previous AK-48 grow, I realise that I was watering incorrectly, but I still got a decent harvest so I am hoping for even bigger yields this time with an improved watering technique. Week 4 is also an important week as I performed topping and started LST. Happy growing and howls to all 😎 👉 04 June 2021 (Day 22) - Performed topping of the plant to generate more than one cola. I cleaned a pair of nail scissors thoroughly and left a bit of the stalk before the node to prevent splitting of the stem. Growth rates will probably slow down for a few days as a result. I also began Low Stress Training (LST) on some of the lower branches. The top inch of soil was dry so I ran through 3.5L of degassed tap water at pH 6.75 and then ran through 2L of feed at 1/4 of the doses recommended by Biobizz for week 3 plants in Allmix soil. I collected 1.4L of run off which is probably about 24% so I will decrease the volume a bit on the next watering. The pH of the run off was also 6.75 with a TDS of 640 ppm which seems a little high to me 😕, but its probably all the salt buildup coming off, better out than in. TDS of the feed was 240 ppm. Light was raised to give a 48cm distance between light and top of the plant. Lux at the top of the plant was 9977. Please let me know if you think I am making any major errors. 👉 06 June 2021 (Day 24) - The scar from the topping on day 22 is healing well and new growth of the 2 new main cola branches is visible. Also spent some time reading about Vapour Pressure Deficit (VPD). Very interesting and I will be ordering an IR thermometer now https://www.dimluxlighting.com/knowledge/blog/vapor-pressure-deficit-the-ultimate-guide-to-vpd/ 👉 07 June 2021 (Day 25) - Raised light to maintain the 48cm distance between light and top of the plant. Increased light intensity at the top of the plant to 11584 Lux (about 50% on the SF1000 dimmer dial). I am expecting her to start flowering within the next 7 days or so. 👉 10 June 2021 (Day 28) - Raised light to maintain the 48cm distance between light and top of the plant. Increased light intensity at the top of the plant to 12602 Lux (about 55% on the SF1000 dimmer dial). Also continued LST. Top inch of soil still has a tiny bit of moisture in it, so I think next watering/feeding will either be tomorrow or Saturday. Perhaps I will use 3 gallon fabric pots on the next grow as I feel a bit redundant at the moment as very little input is required from me...I like stuff to do and tinker with in the garden. Some of the lowest fan leaves have developed a small amount of yellowing on some of the tips. I don't think it is burn from over-feeding as I have been very lighthanded with feeding. I'm tending to think it might be a slight deficiency and the plant is taking what it needs from the leaf. Its not severe burn and I will be feeding again in the next 48hrs, so I am not worried. Same thing happened on my previous AK48 grow and she turned out fine. Finally, got a IR thermometer from Amazon and spent a while plugging the formulas into Excel to calculate VPD. Probably not massively accurate due to equipment errors, I got a VPD of 1.13 which is apparently OK for a plant in late veg / early flower. Which is nice.

Week 5 Its about to get exciting! She should start to flower very soon. I am continuing to adjust the branches using soft garden wire...not entirely sure if I'm doing this LST thing correctly, but I don't think I am doing any harm by trying to move things around to get the most light to the budding sites. There is a bit of smell, but nothing too bad. Howls, hope and peace to all growers 👌😎 👉 11 June 2021 (Day 29) - Top inch of soil was dry so watered with 3L of water at pH 6.75, then fed with 2L of feed at 1/4 of the doses recommended by Biobizz for week 4 plants in Allmix soil. Collected a total of 0.9L of run off. Runoff percentage volume in comparison to volume poured in was 18%. TDS of feed was 257 ppm @ pH 6.75 and TDS of runoff was 427 ppm...still a bit high but better than week 4. Took 3 separate soil samples for pH testing - soil is pH 6.75 so in the right range. 👉 13 June 2021 (Day 31) - Raised light again to maintain a 48cm gap between light and plant. Increased light intensity to 15407 Lux at the top of the plant. I can see pre-flowers forming so she is now entering the early flowering stage. 👉 16 June 2021 (Day 34) - Watered with 5L of water at pH 6.75. Run off had a TDS of 356 ppm.

Week 6 We have now definitely reached the early flowering stage and she is looking pretty strong and healthy. I do have some leaf tip yellowing on some of the lower fan leaves. I have either underfed in which case she is taking the extra she needs from the leaves, or I have not watered properly at the start and there is still quite a bit of salt buildup in the soil. Either way, the extent of the problem is minor so I am not too worried. The rest of her seems to be perfectly happy. I am watering more frequently now that she is bigger and more thirsty and that the summer is here. Howls to all, have a great weekend and stay safe 😎😛 👉 18 June 2021 (Day 36) - Increased light intensity to 20292 Lux at the top of the plant. 👉 20 June 2021 (Day 38) - Watered with 3L of water at pH 6.75, then fed with 2L of feed at 1/4 of the doses recommended by Biobizz for week 5 plants in Allmix soil. TDS of feed was 246 ppm @ pH 6.75 and TDS of runoff was 360 ppm. Not really sure what to do about that...do I flush her thoroughly and add fresh nutes, or not risk it because there isn't a massive TDS delta? I can't help but think its because I didn't water properly at the start but I have been watering correctly for at least 3 weeks or more now so would hope to have flushed away any crap? Or perhaps I have and I'm just seeing the residual? I think I will definitely go for 3-gallon fabric pots for the next grow as I think that I will have to water more frequently and it will help prevent salt buildup? I wish I knew what I was doing LOL😜 👉 24 June 2021 (Day 42) - Increased light intensity to 32768 Lux at the top of the plant. I am getting some Canna Boost Accelerator and will be including it when I feed her tomorrow.

Week 8 Buds are starting to increase in size now 😋 I'm glad that this strain is heat tolerant as its becoming a bit of a struggle to maintain cooler temperatures in the grow space...I'm using an air con unit to cool things down when necessary. The air con isn't blasting directly on the plant but its cooling the area outside the grow space and various fans are then gently piping the cool air to the plant. Either way, its expensive to run the A/C, but I don't want my girl to get too hot. I've done a little more defoliation to improve light penetration to the lower budding sites...and the LST helps of course. I'll be getting the microscope out soon to take some trichome pics. Howls and much love 🐺🏍️🐾🌿 👉 3 July 2021 (Day 51) Mid-flower flush. I watered with about 13L of water and then added 2L of 1/4 strength week 7 feed. The TDS of the feed was 257ppm, and the TDS of the run off was 255ppm, which is on a par with the feed for the first time! Hopefully the soil has been 'reset' a bit now and will be a nicer environment for the roots which will hopefully improve nute uptake and slow down the leaf yellowing. I did a mid-flower flush on my previous grow and it didn't do any harm and certainly it flushes away toxins and helps to restore the correct pH balance. 👉 7 July 2021 (Day 55) Watered with 3L of water at pH 6.5 followed by 2L of 1/4 strength Week 8 feed. TDS of feed was 272ppm. Buds are starting to look frosty and are getting a bit fatter now.

I'm just concentrating on keep her as comfortable as possible now which is costing me quite a bit in terms of running AC, but you have to treat her right. Week 11 She continues to do well and buds are getting bigger. There isn't much of a smell, unless I have stopped noticing it. I will get the microscope out again tomorrow for more trichome pics, but I feel that she has a few more weeks to go. If the trichomes say different then I'll be starting to flush. The leaf yellowing seems to have slowed right down. I don't know if she was just super hungry a few weeks ago, or if I had a bit of salt buildup in the soil which I flushed away. I quite like the way that leaves turn colour as harvest approaches anyway 😊 Howls, happiness and health 😛 👉 25 July 2021 (Day 73) - Examined trichomes with microscope. The proportion of cloudy trichomes is now much higher but there are still some glassy trichomes. No amber trichomes were seen. Conclusion, not ready yet. I will continue watering and feeding for at least another week and will look at the trichomes next weekend to see if its time to start flushing. Also, watered with 3L of water at pH 6.5 following by 2L of feed. 👉 28 July 2021 (Day 76) - watered with 3L of water at pH 6.5 following by 2L of feed.

Week 12 Getting very close to harvest now. I've had a squeeze of some of the buds and they are absolutely solid...not airy at all. I will look at the trichomes again this weekend but I think that I will be starting to flush soon. Howls, happiness and hope 🐺🌿🌞 👉 31st July 2021 (Day 79) - Did a little yellow fan leaf defoliation. Also watered with 3L of water at pH6.5 followed by 2L of feed at the same pH (probably the last feed). 👉 1st Aug 2021 (Day 80) - Inspected trichomes with digital microscope. Majority of trichomes are now cloudy and a few early amber ones too. So, flush starting now. 👉 3rd Aug 2021 (Day 82) - Watered with 5L of water at pH6.5. 👉 6th Aug 2021 (Day 85) - Watered with 5L of water at pH6.5. Week 13 I have stopped all nutes and am just giving her water / ice cubes at pH6.5 from now on. She is very very close to harvest now, but I don't want to chop her too early, which is what I think happened with my previous AK-48 grow. I'm not in a rush now, so I will continue to flush and look at the trichomes with the microscope to determine the best harvest time....but based on what I have seen so far, I think one more week. Some of her leaves are developing a purple colour which I missed out on last time by harvesting too early. The buds are getting quite chunky now and they are pretty solid...not airy at all. 👉 8th Aug 2021 (Day 87) - Examined trichomes with digital microscope. Most seem milky and a few amber trichomes were seen - I'm definitely in the harvest window, but I think it would be OK to let her go for a few more days up to a maximum of a week. A midweek session with the 'scope is needed. I'd like to get at least one more flush-watering done before I harvest. 👉 9th Aug 2021 (Day 88) - Watered with 5L of water and ice cubes at pH6.5. 👉 12th Aug 2021 (Day 91) - Watered with 10L of water and ice cubes at pH6.5. This is the final flush and I will turn the lights off today to give her 72 hours of total darkness. Harvest day will be Sunday 15th Aug (Day 94). I have also ordered some bubble bags / bucket / pressing screens and will have a go at making some bubble hash with the trim.

Harvest Day So, after 94 days, I said my goodbye and thanks, and she was chopped. The wet weight after wet-trimming was 4.33 ounces or 122 grams which is comparible to the first time I grew AK-48. I have to admit that I was hoping that the final weight would be a bit higher, especially as I used the SF-1000 light throughout the grow, but AK-48 auto is known not to give massive yields apparently. Update: when I first grew AK-48 at the start of the year, I got 1.16 ounces dry weight, and this time I got 1.36 ounces dry weight, so the dry yield has improved a bit 😋 I also had some problems during the grow that may have led to less than optimal yields: 👉 1) Watering: I didn't know how to water properly at the start, which may have had an effect. Now, I wait until the top inch of soil is dry, and then I water to give a 10% run-off. 👉 2) Nutes: I fed at 1/4 recommended nute strengths as I didn't want to end up with nute burn. I now think that I should have given 1/2 strength instead as I think she could have handled it 👉 3) Heat / Mid summer grow. My house and grow room get insanely hot in the summer and the temperature in the grow room must have been pushing 30c at times. I know AK-48 is quite hardy, but I still think she was not enjoying the heat. I tried to keep her cool using my AC unit, but that gets very expensive as I was running it 24/7 at times. Without the AC, the temperatures would have been very significantly higher. I am going to wait until things cool down again and then grow in the cooler months. 👉 4) Light intensity: I think she could have handled more light earlier in the veg phase than I gave her. I think that she was a bit leggy so more intense light at the start would have helped probably. 👉 5) LST. I know that I didn't do LST properly and aim to improve this on my next grow. 👉 6) Soil pH: I think that the soil pH needed to be a bit more acidic. I was measuring it at about 6.75, which is OK-ish I think, but I think that something closer to pH6.4 / 6,5 would have been better. So, some lessons to learn and things to think about with the aim of improving my next grow. However at the end of the day, I did get 1.36oz of (hopefully) good quality bud, which was grown and will be cured to the best of my current ability. That will keep me going for a good while (I haven't even got close to finishing the product of my previous grow) and I will top my stocks up again with another grow towards the end of the year. The next grow will be two plants, and I'm thinking LSD-25 and Zkittlez...or something like that. Thank you to everyone that has shown an interest in my grow and have given me much encouragement and advice along the way. I wish you all happiness and good health. See you on the next grow! Howls! 🐺🌿🏍️
