Like a true novice I purchased some 'novelty' seeds from Etsy. 5 Banana Kush and 5 NL Auto. None germinated. I has also purchases 5 BD. Three germinated. One sprouted on 3/19 or so. The other two popped up on 3/23. Lesson learned: support legit banks next time.

Well, This is the girls (hopefully girls) at May 4 about six weeks in. At around 3.5 weeks I transplanted then outside. I am in Virginia and jumped the gun. We had a late frost and actually down to 30*. I took a chance, dug them up and brought them in for 2 days. Then back out with a big drink. I was worried about the shock but they seemed to recover well. The soil I am using is 3/4 compost-garden dirt mix with the other 1/4 being some locally sourced garden soil that is advertised to be great for tomatoes. We used it the last two years as our veggie beds expanded and had fantastic results with maters. No feeding yet at this point.

Week 8ish. Plants doing well (I think..others will know more) . About 27''. What is weird is that all three should be Blue Dream. But one has a totally different structure---more Xmas tree shaped. All have some large fan leaves. Any input is more than welcome and appreciated. I love to garden and this has been so much fun growing these. Hope to try autos very soon. just need a good source...again input welcome.

The plants won't require more P until they start going into flower. You will start to notice in mid to late summer the plants will begin stretching and growing more branches as the days get shorter. It's possible for them to almost double in size within a few weeks. At this point you'll be on the cusp of flowering and you can increase P and K, and start to reduce N. During the veg state, N helps the plants grow more leaves and give them that healthy green color, but it isn't as necessary during flowering. P & K will focus more on flower/bud development so you will end up with less leafy buds. Overall, your plants are looking great, though! Hope this helps. Cheers!

Thanks! I do l know a little bit about nutes. :) How long does pre-flowering last? Can anyone tell from my closeups of week 7 if-those are pre-lowers? I also worry that I started these too early in regards to amount of sunlight---(too tall before light shortens)

Yes you have a lady! Preflower can start as early as week three in vegative growth and goes until it is signaled by the season. You can bush it out if you want to keep it below the fence by clipping the new growth at the top of the branches as they reach the height you desire. But there is no way to stop them once they get going. Pretty ladies and happy growing!!!

Week 10. The hreeb girls are starting to sprint on up. Pre-flowering spots are increasing. Should I start with some bloom nutrients or wait? Im giving MG 11-3-8 every Thursday (Thirsty Thursday). I topped on of the girls and the branches just below the cut are going crazy with new side branches and pre flowers!

When is too late to start upping the phosphate? I have what i think are preflowers. Should I start now? The days are still getting longer for the next two weeks or so. I dont want to start too late. They are growing great now in the veg stage.

Imo just start gradually giving low levels of PK biased stuff along with your NK biased stuff, and gradually biasing more towards P rather than N.

I find it hard to judge on a photoperiod when outside. 2 year ago I had one that looked like it was in pre flower but the days where still getting longer. I started building up P and K and left my N where it was and started to get N deficiency. I ended up feeding them on the same ratios of NPK for ages until I was certain it was going to flower properly.

I've tried totally switching from flower to bloom nutes and I got signs of nitrogen deficiency. So, I switch to my flower fertilizer but also give supplemental nitrogen especially when she's growing like crazy during the stretch.

All three girls really taking off. Noticing a bunch more pre-flowers. Have started Open Sesame on one of them. Just one at first to test it out. Other veggies near by doing good too :). I guess another week until the days start to get shorter...

Starting to show true flowers on some lower branches that are a bit more shaded (6.28 or so). I'm a bit behind so doing a couple updates today (7/9.) Growth seems to have slowed down--which is good because these girls were getting a bit too tall :). Started to use Open Sesame up to its recommended strength now. I did hold back a bit with the bloom nutrients on one of the three plants-the Big mama of the three. And one one I fed a bit more than all three. That girl is showing the most growth in buds. Seeing that and there hasnt been any nutrient burn led me to bring the other too up to recommended amounts.

Flowers starting to come on in all three girls. The one that I started the Open Sesame nutrient sooner definitely has more buds. The other two are not far behind though. Also, the lower branches have bigger flowers so far. Im guessing less light and older branches as well. Being at 16 total or so weeks, how much longer till harvest? Again they are Blue Dream outside, SW-ish Virginia. How far into flowering should I continue the Open Sesame?

Been super busy and neglecting my growdiary. The three sisters are flowering really well. The girl that got bloom nutrients the earliest has the bigger flowers. The one that i topped early on has the 2nd biggest buds. The last one has the smaller buds but much much more of them---she was also the tallest/biggest of the three. Today I will try to get pics of each plant separately. They are close together so they blend in a bit.

Pics from August 31st. Girls went into the ground mid -April. I actually had to pull them a week r two into April because of a late freeze. They went back on the ground and did just fine-even after being pulled and placed in pots for two days. Seems like they are doing pretty good. I am a good 21+ weeks in to the grow. Flowers are coming in, but, it seems like there are a lot of smaller flowers in a cluster rather than bigger buds. Is this normal for a Sativa? Have backed off the Open Sesame nutrients. Should I keep going with them? I want to be able to flush them before harvest and dont want to run out of time for that. This has been a pretty fun process. I havent been super diligent on note-taking etc. My other garden plants (veggies etc.) were and are doing well, so I let Mother Nature do her thing. I did start with really good compost/garden soil. That seemed to have help the girls and the veggies. One question I have is how big should the Blue Dream flowers get? I realize that the likely hood for different phenos is there. The flowers on these girls seem to be several in a cluster but smaller in size.

I am about 21 weeks into my first grow. Blue Dream. Pre flowers started around week 13. Flowering has really taken off but it seems like there are several smaller flowers in a cluster rather than a few big ones. Is this normal for Blue Dream? -up the open sesame? diff nutes?

Yes this is totally normal for cannabis in general and your plant is doing exactly what it is supposed to be doing. No need to panic or change anything drastically, she looks just fine to me. Hope this helps, Organoman.

Are my girls getting seeds or even worse herming? These little bulbs dont look quite like a boy plant i was trying inside, but, they do look rather spade-like. I did open 1of the bulbs up and it appeared a tiny seed was starting. some bulbs have ' hairs' like the other flowers.

Doesnt look like hermie sir. If plant was pollinated, you would see them callyxes crack open and see there is seed inside later in flowering.if they got pollinated earlier, youll certainly get mature seeds when you harvest your plant.i wouldnt worry about seeds.all look good.individual callyxes growing on the stem usually look like this,no problem.even if it got pollinated.

Just give it time and they’ll likely fill in to solid buds/colas. I would stop with the open sesame unless that’s your only source of nutes. Those are meant for the first 2-3 weeks of flower, then beastie bloomz to pack on weight, then cha ching at the end

@brownbus, I’ve had limited results from home improvement stores.. I’d personally recommend looking up “hydro shops” or “indoor gardening” stores locally, you should have one close depending on location. I’ve got about 5 within a 5 mile radius. Anyhow.. they’ll have plenty of organic options in all types of price ranges. If you’re comfortable and in a legal state just say you’re looking for some organic flower nutes for cannabis. If not, just look for something for “flower” or “bloom” with a higher P&K concentration in the NPK. Fox farms Big Bloom is all organic I believe with extra good stuff like bat guano.

Verry nice for a first grow :) No issue with pest for now?
brownbus
brownbuscommented4 years ago
@PurpleWorship, Thank You! Not a lot of pest at all. I do see a few flying bugs, but the dragon flies and the other beneficial bugs have kept them at bay. The girls are in my veggie garden which has pest deterring plants...garlic, marigold, nasturtium, basil and other herbs. Other than the open sesame nutrients they have been grown organically. I still have soooooo much to learn. My next attempt will be indoors...I know I will need help with choosing a tent and lights etc. I have a homemade tent I made out of a indoor greenhouse and reflective mylar. I have a bag seed indie (cherry something...but its bag seed so, who knows)started in there...
