This is my first time ever trying to grow and was given this clone of Super Silver Haze (SSH) to try out after purchasing a couple of GG # 4's. I had an idea that I was going to top and try to manifold some of my clones, but just realized clone clusters aren't evenly spaced. Will have to investigate what my next move is, but will probably LST.
Cups are filled with what looks like your typical starting soil and has 3 holes drilled at the bottom for drainage. Grower had clones under a light in a basement, so these need to be introduced slowly to outside light. Currently have them in a hoophouse (not as harsh as direct sunlight) and will gradually introduce them outside with no cover. One of the bottom leaves have turned brown (received this way) but I'm assuming it has to do with them being clones and not having roots which causes leaves to turn brown as they eat the stored food in the leaves.
Plant started to get pretty wide so I decided to transplant to 5 Gal containers. Roots just started to circle to button of the cup so it was a good time to move them to a bigger container.
Transplanted using Happy Frog potting soil and started to LST. Wasn't sure how soon to start this training, but I've read the sooner the better if possible. I've been doing 6 cups of water about every other day, maybe a day longer right now. I've been moving this plant out side during the day and into a hoophouse at nights. I think its more of peace of mind to make sure nothing happens to it during this early stage.
Temperatures have been a bit crazy this week. Seen a couple of days in the high 80's which usually doesn't happen for a few more weeks. Plant has started to really take off. You can see the crazy growth happening right now. I had two stems on this clone to I split them almost like a manifold. Couldn't tie them down to the edge of the pot anymore so I put a wood dowel across the top to allow me continue to LST. Started to trim a couple of fan leaves on the bottom that weren't seeing much light anymore, but that's all for right now. Will continue to try and spread those stems apart to get maximum light to those nodes.
With the hotter days, It looks like I'll be watering every other day at just under a gallon of water.
So this has been a strange week to say the least We've been getting a lot of sunlight these last few weeks which have been great for the plants, but its been getting really hot during these June days (89 deg) which has my plants drying out much quicker then expected.
I noticed some discoloration in some of the new leaves and thought perhaps my plants were shutting down because of the heat or perhaps my starting soil is running out of nutrients. Doing some research, from my newbie eyes that it could possibly be lack of iron or possibly Phosphorus. I have some soluble
0-0-13 that I use as a foliar spray with my tomato plants when it gets to hot so I decided to mix up a batch and see if it helps at all. Sprayed the leaves down in hopes they'll absorb enough to fix what looks like a nutrient lock up.
Low Stress training has been going well so far. Still trying to figure out which branches I let grow upwards and which ones to tie down.
Currently watering with my house faucet that's hooked up to the well with an iron and softener. Have been lowering the Ph to 6.5. May add some tiger bloom and grow big If I don't see any changes with the foliar spray. Will continue to keep an eye on on the discoloration.
Plants started to get a dry much quicker these days as we've had some crazy hot weather so I decided to pot up to their final homes (30 Gallon pot). I noticed the roots were starting to circle the bottom of the container so it was a good time to do so. The leaf issues that I had last week appear to be drift from the neighboring farmer. Didn't think my plants were close enough to the boarder, but looks like it got to them. You can see the picture above off my willows I use as a buffer. They are dying back because of the pesticide spray. Plants look like they are recovering though, so hopefully they pull through.
I put 3 bamboo rods through the bag to allow me to pull the main stem flat while pulling the other branches to the side. Looks like it will be fine for a while, but I think i'll be running out of room as the weeks come.
