After chilling in water (same source for watering) for a good 24 hours the seed was put into the soil in its final pot (textile fabric) where it germinated and saw first daylight after 4 days. Before putting in the soil the pot's bottom was covered with gravel to facilitate air circulation and the pot itself was put on two bricks to avoid contact with the ground.
D01, Sun: Gloria sees first light with a healthy green color and the first leaves ready to deploy
D03, Tue: She grow in the last two days, but not as fast as I expected (compared to her neighbors)
D05, Thu: Looks like she's still a bit shy, not really up to speed. Still looking good tho'
D07, Sat: Gloria has become a beautiful juvenile in her first week. She's not as big as her neighbors but as soon as the second set of leaves unfolds I'm sure she pushes the pedal to the metal 😊
D09, Mon: Much like her friends she put the water from nightly rainfall to good use - pushing out a set of fan leaves. However, Gloria seems to be a bit slower than her neighbors.
D11, Wed: Alright, now we're talking! Finally she seems to put the pedal to the metal! Looks like she appreciates a plus of water. This morning I switched the drip watering from 2 times daily for two minutes to once a day, in the morning, for 5 minutes. In theory the textile pot should drain excessive water, but I've never seen a drop coming out of it 🤔 In contrast to her neighbors clay pots.
D13, Fri: Gloria is looking fine this Friday morning. The new watering schedule suits her well.
D15, Sun: End of week two for Gloria and I'm happy with her. She's finally settling in and growing steadily. I have the suspicion that I did not put enough soil into the pot, and she was sitting too low in it, not getting enough light and/or fresh air. Now that she's tall enough too "look out" I hope that situation is sorted out. What a lovely plant she's become 😍
D17, Tue: I have the theory that due to not putting enough soil into the pot - so the border is quite high - she was a bit stressed, probably due to heat and less light. Now tho' it looks as if she has overcome the obstacle and keeps on pushing. Lesson learned 🤓
D18, Wed: Uhh la la, she seems to really like the new watering schedule! Sadly today I had to say goodbye for a couple of days, trusting she will keep on pushing like a champ 💪
D31, Tue: Alright, now that I'm back and my hopes and dreams got replaced by reality, I have to say that I'm overwhelmed by Gloria. I was a bit skeptical when I bid my farewell, she was still a little lady, seemingly struggling. But look at her now, what a beauty! She grew tall (~45cm) and is full of branches and leaves and is just starting to flower. What joy! 💕
D32, Wed: This girl scout ate a loot of cookies! Miss chunky over here is quite something with her juicy green leaves, strong branches and the first flowers that look like they are born from a set of tiny green hands (sorry for anthropomorphizing 😅). I love it how she put the pedal to the metal in my absence and grew not only tall but wide too. Every time I look at her I find something new to be amazed by 😍
D35, Sat: Muhahaha, I was worried about her wellbeing a couple of weeks ago. Well, I am no more, she's is going crazy! Even though she started flowering she's somehow still gaining height (15cm this week) and girth. I'm completely in love
D38: I'm lost for words. I've already wrote so a couple of days before, but what the heck is she doing!? Gloria, the one who seemed to lag behind is flooring it for the last days. Not only is she getting thicker, she's also close to taking the lead in height amongst her neighbors. Yes she too got a shovel full of soil, yes she too gets her water from a well now. But where does she take the juice to become bigger and more beautiful by the day? And all while flowering! I don't know what's happening, all I know is that I love it and that I'm curious to see what she'll do in the next days and weeks. Maybe it's the strain, maybe the textile pot, maybe a combination of both. Whichever it is, I think the love and appreciation of her caretaker surely does its part 😏
D51, Mon: Back again after a week of absence and she's finally stopped growing taller and seems to put all she's got into her flowers. The buds are fattening up and the pistils are turning amber, while the trichomes look milky under the magnifying glass. Much like her neighbors I put her in a spot with more shade, as the temperatures are quite high right now. Additionally, she's now chilling with a fan that should help keeping her dry and maybe a even a little cooler. Plus I removed some of the dried out leaves and some that were hanging into neighboring colas' buds. What amazes me is how many buds she's holding onto. I had no idea she'd be getting this big. Love it In terms of scent she's not as intense as her neighbors, most of all not nearly as sweet. I'm curious how that'll change over the next days
D64, Sun: This marvelous plant is now at the end of her 9th week. She's really something, full with buds that have been fattening up really nicely and smell sweeter by the day. The pistil production has slowed down in the last days while the trichomes have become more erect and milkier, shimmering in the sunlight. During the day she's under a tree that will provide some shade around noon. During the night she's under a roof, where she's out of reach of morning dew. Still, the air is very humid at night, but the fan seems to do good work as so far I haven't seen any signs of budrot.
I slightly defoliated her, primarily to get rid of the leaves that have started yellowing and were prone to pest infestation. As a matter of fact some of the older leaves already had initial signs of spider mites on them so they had to go. Additionally, I removed a couple of fan leaves that blocked sunlight from getting to the flowers.
Depending on the weather, that is said to be deteriorating over the next days, I have to decide when to bring her in, but it wont be too long from now. My anticipation is under control for now, chances are it might be an objective decision 😂 That being said, I can't wait to taste her once she's dried and cured. And obviously I am very curious about how she'll enchant me by then 😍
Growing of this Girl Scout Cookie was a blast, from start to finish. I was very pleased with how little care she needed - even though I was offering - to grow into such a beautiful and fruitful lady. The large textile pot certainly had its positive effect on growth, as well as regular watering and special care in her last weeks. She didn't smell at all but gave off a mild, sweet scent of the flower.
Harvest was alright, her buds were equally spread and all harvest-worthy. A lot of trimming was necessary as she had many tiny bud leaves, though many of them covered with trichomes, with about 60g of them ending up in canna butter.
After roughly 5 weeks in an actively ventilated cardboard box she was right to be put into the jars and let curing begin. However first quality assessments have been made and it was found that the product is on the right path.
Quite some curing was necessary, as - due to the many bud leaves - there was much chlorophyll that needed to be broken down before the harsh-bitter taste of it wasn't noticeable any more.
And that was when the truly amazing smell and taste of this Girl Scout Cookie came into play. I was looking forward to open the grinder primarily to catch a whiff of that heavy, sweet scent paired with etheric oils and only secondarily to get the ground bud out.
I both smoked and vaped her buds and baked the butter into chocolate brownies. Whatever the form, she easily knew how to induce both a body and mind high, coming in different forms and tastes. Vaping was a very tasty endeavour with a sweet, nutty, almost chocolaty flavour that was followed by a calming, yet not tiring, high. Easily the most pleasant vape I've ever had. Smoking was earthy/nutty and the high came in smoothly but assertively and with a pleasant body high.
I could smoke/vape her in the afternoon or at night, knowing that she wouldn't relax me too much but wouldn't push me too much either. Dry mouth and eyes were omnipresent in her presence.
She was the fastest grower in the bloc of three. Perhaps due to the most favourable pot, but I have a feeling her being a renowned strain might have come into play as well. Overall this grow was perfect for me, she did not need special caring, did not have problems with pests or nutrients and was a sight for sore eyes.
What I'd like to change:
• nothing really
What I'd like to keep:
• automatic watering
• 15L geotextile pot
What I'd like to do is not deleting the harvest's photos while doing a switch from one phone to another..
