Received a cutting from a friend, it looked a little yellow and was started off in a medium i wasnt used to. I potted her into the coco as soon as I could. The edges of the leaves initially looked burned from too much or too little nutes. I watered with no nutes for a couple of days and it was clearly a deficiency, the PH was also far too high. So i started on some feed. Basic Plagron Algae nutes and 1/4 measure of Canna coco A and B while she is still small. This brought the ph down to about 6.5(still a little high) but allowed nutes to be taken on.
I have begun the LST with a simple tie over of the main stem. I always like to keep everything as symmetrical as possible but noticed the node spacings on this were alternate so decided to let this one grow a little more freely and will train further in the coming weeks,
I have a little family of ladybirds that live in the lavender and on the plum tree, Im encouraging them to make this their home.
The plant will be outside during the day and in a temp controlled tent at night. During veg it will be under a Spider Farmer 1000 for the first and last couple of hours of the light schedule.
After a decent feed she has flourished. Leaves looking beautifully green and plenty of growth. Stem has strengthened up - excuse the photos this week, i had to grab screenshots from a video.
I have topped a couple of locations, and added a little scaffolding to train these branches out sideways - I dont want to tie anything down too much, rather bend and twist these every day.
Im keen to not let this get too tall, this is a micrgrow and so will be happy topping more before flower but hopefully train sideways as much as possible and flatten out the canopy.
Upped the nutes this week and i sporadically add some molasses and rhino skin in every 4th or 5th feed.
Shes turning into an absolute beaut. Super strong growth, really lovely leaf structure(many 3 leafed leaves) And due to the topping and training im seeing so many tops.
Decided to thin out and defoliate most of the fan leaves, and that just invigorated even more growth. I will need to add another layer of trellis before I go to flower, but im not going to leave it much longer before bringing her in after 12 hours.
Added a drop of calmag and upped the algae. Only adding the algamic every 3 feeds now.
Watering is simply 1.5 litres, every day when hot, every 2 days when not.
Ladybirds were mating yesterday and it was quite the honour to be apart of their moment, lol. ...... and low and behold this morning look what I saw (last 2 photos) - Ladybug eggs! This will deal with any of the greenfly I'm seeing.
Starting week 5 by flipping to 12/12 (9th June) - Hairs popped on the 11th
Removing my nitrogen nutes and replacing them with pk13/14 which I will continue until week 6/7 of flower.
Im hesitant to defoliate too hard right now but will do so gently over the next week.
Everything else is just perfect - super healthy, with the occasional nibble from bugs, one of the minor issues with outdoor growing. However, the ladybird eggs have hatched today and they should make their way up the pot(with the help of a little trail of molasses) and go into battle for me.
Update 14th - Still looking great, my battalion of ladybird larvae chilled out by their eggs for a couple of days but they were gone this morning and i spotted them patrolling the plant so that's a nice little bonus.
Bit more defoliation on the 13th and just continuing to bend and twist the thinner stalks to hardy them up ready to carry the heavy nugs.
Been hot in the courtyard the last couple of days, giving her an extra litre of water in the evenings. Watering will be every day from now on, 2-3 litres depending on the temperature.
19th June - Kicking off week 2 of flower with a minor concern about the spots on the leaves, they dont appear to be spreading but in case it was a fungus i defoliated quite hard to remove as many of the spotted leaves as possible.
This has left only the newer growth, but the leaves do look a little pale so have added a touch of cal mag for nitrogen and will monitor over the week,
Bugs are a real issue at the moment, im hand picking about 20 or so off every hour, and they are doing a fair bit of damage to the leaves - luckily im on it with making sure they arent on there long enough to lay aphids. My trained up ladybugs have all moved on apart from one who has set up in pupae stage under one of the leaves and should hatch into an adult in the next few days - thats been a nice little bonus to watch the full circle of life there.
22nd - Not much to report, still a bit concerned about the light spots on some of the leaves, was worried it was yellow spot but it hasnt spread to others and hasnt changed much, but its also not improving - will monitor but hopefully its something as simple as bug bites.
Well the defoliation last week seemed to stunt the growth for a couple of says but shes come back strong, every morning she is praying up and looks super healthy - less concerned by the light spots on leaves now as it doesnt appear to be spreading. Bugs are still an issue but im just having to be vigilante.
Starting to see the flowers take shape now, but unfortunately its been raining hard all week so shes now in the tent under a spider farmer.
Adding very small amounts of bud candy and big bud, will ramp those up as the weeks go on. Having to adjust the watering to compensate for it being cooler, but otherwise, all looks good.
She doesnt smell yet.....
Not a huge amount to add here! the weather has been incredible the last few weeks and things have been ticking along nicely. The only drawback to growing outdoors is my 2 dickhead cats who love to investigate, sniff and consequently leave fur everywhere. This has been the same for years and isnt a massive problem, just requires a bit of rooting out upon harvest. the little beggars.
Starting to get a lovely smell from this now, very gassy.
This will be the last week of the Coco A and B as i start to tone down the nutes, and due to the increase in temps its back to watering 2 litres daily
Ok, its getting hot in here.... Day temps up to 40 in the direct sun - to be fair the plant hasnt shown any signs of heat stress, and just continues to chug on handsomely.
Removed the A and B from the nutes and will have one more week of the PK and candy, with some molasses too - and will start to taper those off from next week too.
Plenty of orange hairs, and it looks like this might finish a week earlier than expected, some cloudy trichomes, but no orange ones as yet - Im keen to let this one go as long as possible because im told its a strong strain and id like to make sure I get as much CBD and flavour as possible as i dont need to try and get high levels of THC, that should come naturally.
Ive read from other growers that the buds in their grows were quite fluffy, not mine, they are rock hard and covered in crystals - loving this grow, but we have some storms on the way so maybe the next week will be indoors.
Cats are still being furry dickheads.
EDIT: Ive removed the lower large fan leaves this week and want to defoliate more to get as much light to the lower buds as possible, however. I have found in previous grows that removing too many too soon or at the same time, around this time, really screws with the plants ability to perspire. I don't want to make any drastic changes at the moment, as things are very nicely balanced, but I will start to nip the odd leaf over the next week and by week 12(week 8 of flower) only have buds and sugar leaves remaining.
Start of week 11(week 7 of flower) Buds fattening up nicely. Noticed some purple on a few of the leaves today, this could be a coincidence but last night was the first night with the carbon filter and extractor fan as the smell is starting to be rather pungent.
Im starting to drop out all the nutes this week and will begin flush at the end of this week. Will probably flush with only PH levelled water for a week, even though with coco it doesnt need to be that long, i just want to squeeze all the nutes from the leaves and work through as much chlorophyll as possible before harvest.
Update 29th - plenty of purple leaves now - would be concerned about a phosphorous deficiency if this was earlier in flower but im about a week away from finishing up so this is expected. will begin flush in the next couple of days. Little disappointed by the lack of growth in the buds the last 2 weeks, quality looks good though.
Much purple, such wow.
No more nutes, starting flush, purple everywhere, buds looking lovely, smells fantastic. Will probably harvest in 2-3 days. Will update and comment more when thats complete.
Update 6th - Tried to take some macro shots of the trichomes, not too successful with a phone and cheap mag glass, but id say about 75% of them are cloudy, 20% clear with a few amber here and there - I really want to wait a little longer to have a few more amber but I just dont have the time unfortunately, will be harvesting tomorrow to give me enough time to dry before going on holiday. :(
This stuff has taken an age to dry! I think it was a little too cool in the tent. ah well.
Its currently in jars curing, so havent had chance to try it out and i think im prepared to give it a full 6 weeks of cure.
Results wise, little disappointed by the yield, only 4oz but it was a micro grow - I think perhaps although i didnt notice it at the time, the heatwave fortnight i had during flower may have had something to do with the lack of growth - but still the quality of the buds is high, plenty of trichomes and buds are really dense.
As its still in cure its still a bit hay-smell as the chlorophyll continues to work its way out but there are lovely undertones of gas and fruit - (cherry?)
Will check back in with a smoke report in a few weeks but wanted to get a couple of vids of the buds (yes i dont trim them like the pros, i dont care :p )
