The taller one was germinated in unbleached paper towel. The drops of water had already dried out after I peeked between two saucers 24 hours later, I added some extra drops of water and tried a different dark location, not the cupboard on top of the fridge, the other one. By 48 hours I had one inch plus straight as a nail beginning of a root, as I planted this I added a new seed to the soil for fun (the helmet head). The helmet head traveled over three inches across the pot the sprout very close the the germinated one. Lets call them Andy Cap (helmet head) and Yao (the taller one). After reading a bit online I decided spitting on a seed sounds just plain rude, So I just misted with plain water periodically for a day or less and eventually was able to flick the cracked seed off the baby flower without stress. I am not trying to compete with anyone I just want to see the easiest way to grow at home.
Yao look a bit droopy after the separation, Possible a bit extra with the Gaia All Purpose 4-4-4. We had close to 13.5 hours with the plants in the sun today, adding extra water now, top soil is drying out very fast.
Andy Capp, she was welting away fast, and lots of pale colours, I was up reading online for hours, Mrs Capp got a mix of soil and the all purpose was mixed on soil. I remembered a conversation, its because of phosphorus soil the plants survive the winters in the tropics (less than 12 hours days and mostly under 30c). I didnt know what to do. One crazy idea said I can get phosphorus from burned cucumber skin. I posted a question, one answer - No a cannabis plant does not need 0-11-27 from burned cucumber skin. So I thought about it. Looking at the plant it was pale as ever. I read again that original site. So what! I did it. further reading says in others words maybe the veg stage needs nitrogen but this was an emergency. and 0-11-27 will do the most important thing. Speed up the plants ability to feed. So I did it, got the cucumber skin burned, and made three deposits in the soil 2-3 inches from the stem, dusted the burnt material into the finger hole, covered it up, and drew a liquid ounce of water from stem to deposits. by the time the sun was up about two hours later Andy Capp looked so mad at me but had nice green color again, so I dug out the deposits and called it a day. Now the plant is pretty much looking the same with half decent color. When I gently removed Andy from the two seed pot, the root was small and round, about the size is a big gum ball. just having fun learning as I grow.
Day 27 - As opposed to Headband taking a primp posture under FL, Yao is having branches beyond 90 degrees from stem, looking like she is clapping to the sun shine. Andie Capp looks like she is ready to be Bonsai'd, reading on the skill today.
Honestly the whole motivation for 5-0-1 was for aNDIE cAPP. If I am going to learn anything by growing, keep all seeds alive by any means. And it would be good to have a nitrogen nutrient for all 3 of my plants are still in the veg stage. With a topping of all purpose 2 weeks ago, Something tells me to try with a flora boost now and might improve the bud capacity. Thanks!
Day 32 - pix on the way, Andie Capp is taking very well to Flora Micro 5-0-1 she is steady growing and a overall nice foliage tone. keeping a close eye looks similar to fruit fly but only seen one. Yao as seen in pic is filling out very well, no odor.
Day 37 - this plant is described as 4-5 month. enter month 2
Day 39, - update was a couple bursts of Doktor Doom implanted and first hot and sunny day in a while, while Yao looked very dropping with the large leaves during the day, the top is looking very healthy and continuous rising. whereas over night she has primped out and forming a healthy stretch. Might need extra water at the right times. Meanwhile Andie Capp is still looking with healthy foliage tone and gaining height, but slowly and still comparable to a bonsai, adding pix later.
I been away from grow diaries several weeks now, quick video for documentation, mute sound in video please, Andie Capp is looking so tired between 11am-1pm. As well am feeding as needed. 2-3 ounces 4-5 times a day for Yao, and 0.5 - 1 ounce 2-3 times a day for Andie.
see "seed to dried flower" diary , week 16
week 16 - plants are not feeding well, soil is still moist from last night. heavy rain all day. Introduced 2-level foot warmer heater every 20 minutes, 5 minutes each side of pot. difference of 24c pot temperature to 27c pot temperature. after 3 sessions soil is ready for water
One assessment sample bud was taken, Yes excitement played a role but I wanted to test the smalle bud, first time growing not 100% about the potential. The sample did not dry after 24 hours so I sealed it and oven baked for 8-9 minutes at 170f. It was smokeable and did have effect. I was convinced she needs longer sun exposure and sure enough the summer like skies is extending well into the fall season.
1/3 branches were cut, natural light has me constantly paying attention to the energy levels of the powerful sun and persuasive clouds and rain. My hopes is the bud pictured was carefully selected for terpene hues. and assuming the other branches will be able to acquire a greater amount of energy and nutrients / water. I stopped the fox farm and did a few days of water only. My pH had been under prioritized so many days the plant was fed water / nutrients later measured at pH4.5. Boiled water was fed (at room temps) but the boiled tap water reads at 8+ pH and only less than 2ml for tiger bloom had stopped down the pH to 6 in a 3 L container of water. Where as before 4L of water at pH 6.5 was stopped down to 4.5 with 15+ml/4L. So the tap water was only applied one week and I don't think I will use city tap water again. also lots of yellow fan leaf. Not exactly sure, over feeding a bit on purpose, extreme temp change approx 9c at night with moisture and up to 39c at noon. and the boiled tap water, so three things to consider about yellow leaves.
verification- out of the last 13 4L bottled water 3 was straight 6.5 pH and the other 11 4L bottle was spring water at 8+pH with 2 4L bottles boiled tap water at room temp = 8+pH. so the fact of feeding the plants pH 4.5 occured on 4 of the last 13 4L portions of water + nutrients. so over all the pH was not too acidic. Would be nice to have the soil pH measure, but for now the pH water drops show the color of acid - alkaline levels and thats great to know.
I am ready to harvest red dragon, looks like the 1/3 branch trim might have made some difference, the remain bud has considerably developed this week. We are fortunate to have good weather the past month, might be cool nights but about 1-2 hours above 30c and 20c most of the time. My temperature meter does not account moisture in the air. My temperature meter was very helpful, it is a wireless sensor and i can have the base on me in the office and see how how the grow room is, highly recomend a temp meter and fan. it was too late when I got the pH drops but just on time. I used the Doktor Doom pesticide about 3-4 times in the 2nd month over 2 week period for nats, about all i needed and very good to have the pesticide, no body wants nats. Not 100% about the effectiveness of the food, but the plants are looking nice and healthy and on schedule besides the recent yellow leaves and many burnt tips throughout. I have some good fan leaf from week 19 and made tea. It was 4 large fan 7 leaf, 2 from each plant. the tea was half a cup and i can not deny the effect was very tantric in that I had deep calming lower belly breathing for about 4 hours. the other leaf have no effect. I am assuming one plants can make about one cup of fan leaf tea, but of course i think the bud itself can be made for tea.
*notes

2 seed planted and transplanted, now under 2 feet tall at 22 weeks, well into flower stage. I posted a question - How to keep the plant alive and still harvest for buds?
over all Red Dragon is a nice plant to grow and smoke, I love her curly leaf especially and the bottom branches really stretched out with half pipe like tips. so interesting how this specialty plant seems to take so long to produce the dried flower but looking back it went so fast ( enter scene - reminiscing - cloudy frame - couple music - dancing with plants ) 🙌
